Age 71, 2023, I fell striking my right hip and wrist. My iPhone was in my left pocket and I was wearing an Apple Watch Series 9. I was alone outside and unable to move my lower extremities. I spoke into the watch and within seconds I was speaking to an 911 operator. I explained what happened . 911 operator asked me if I had struck my head, unconscious, or bleeding. During the incident, I used my Apple Watch to speak to my love ones advising them as to what had occurred. 👍
Great video Justin. My dad had a mini heart attack and I got both of my parents the Apple Watch. And just yesterday my mother told me the Apple Watch told my dad that he had been resting for a several minutes but his heart rate was elevated. Nice to see how technology is helping save lives and keep our loved ones alive. Keep up the good work.

Fantastic video. My 67-year-old Dad recently ended up in Hospital because his heart was beating at 160 beats per minute while resting. This was happening for a number of days and he didn't even feel it. It was only that he had a Fitbit that it showed him the elevated heart rate. The cardiologist told him if he had waited any longer he would have had a stroke.
Keep on top of it. Diabetes is no joke. My father didn't follow what the doctors told him to do and he ended up losing his eyesight, both legs, and most of his fingers before he passed away. As long as you eat healthy, you'll be alright. Diabetes can be managed. I have to be careful as well because diabetes runs in my family.
I began experiencing episodes of unsteadiness when getting up and night and this eventually led to passing out on the floor one night. My Apple watch had been periodically warning me that my pulse had dropped under 30 BPM, so I made an appointment with my GP who then referred me to a cardiologist who ran tests. This led to a pacemaker being installed, which fixed the issue by not letting my pulse rate to fall below 60. Had I not been alterted to the pulse rate abnormality I might have waited too long to seek medical care.
@@Scorpiogirl_1029 No, not before the onset of "sick sinus syndrome," which required the pacemaker. He forgot heart monitor and the ECG feature. Heart Monitor is available on all Apple Watches and detects your heart rate. This is nothing new most fitnesses trackers have this feature. They can alert of higher than normal heart rates. If it doesn’t detect your exercising and your heart rate is over 100 beats per minute. The Apple Watch can alert you to that condition. The Apple Watch Gen 4 and later minus Apple Watch SE have the ECG feature. This feature can detect Afib, a serious arrhythmia problem of the heart. Afib happed to me twice. By the time I saw my doctor (ER is way too expensive), the arrhythmia went away and they couldn’t find anything wrong. My doctor told me if it happens again, I should go to ER. To me just the ECG feature prompted me to see my doctor is a life saver.
i watching this because i was messing around and was trying to do a back bend, resulting in me falling. i wasn't hurt but it definitely was a hard fall. i didn't even know fall detection was a thing, so i was surprised when i got the alert. i tried faking a fall a few times to see what would happen, and was again surprised when no alert was made. im always very interested in how accurate the apple watch it

Great video Justin!! Thank you!! What model iPhone watch do you use or recommend? Do you have to have your iPhone with you at all times in order for fall detection to work?
1:43 An accelerometer does not detect velocity - a sentence that does not make any sense, a sensor cannot determine the occurrence of an intensity. It, as the name establishes, detect an acceleration -correlate its rate, a change in linear movement. An Apple watch has multiple accelerometers, one for each axis of the three dimensional Cartesian coordinate system. A gyroscope does not detect gravity - it is nonsensical regarding the physics involved - it can determine angular movement in relation to an axis of inertia - x, y and z.
This is great and all, but you don't make it clear if ALL Apple Watches are capable of contacting emergency services (EMS). Apple Watches that are wi-fi only will need to be near its paired iPhone AND have a network connection to call EMS. If you're out and about with a wi-fi only Apple Watch without its iPhone, you're out of luck. On the other hand, Apple Watches with cellular service need a network connection to call. Your video needs to be clear about this. Also, your 1:45 description of what accelerometers and gyroscopes do is incorrect. The former detects changes in velocity while the latter detects changes in spatial orientation.
That part about gyro and accelerometer is incorrect - in fact the gravity (gravitational acceleration) is detected by, yes you guessed it, an accelerometer :) gyroscope measures relative rotation along axis.
