    This really helped me set up my parents, thank you! If the fall alert trips, is it possible to use siri to tell it to dimiss the alert? My dad set it off and didn't have his glasses, so he couldn't see what to push to say he was fine.

      Thanks so much for sharing. I’m glad the video was helpful. I don’t believe you can use Siri to dismiss the alert. Apple suggestion the call goes through explain to the EMS dispatcher what happened. Hope that helps.

      In case you get stuck with understanding information from Apple, you can get the information from Apple. And if it’s not clear there the free call and chat ability as well as going into a store if there’s one near you.
      Hope that’s helpful.

    Hello,
    Thank you so much for explanation.
    Can you set it up so it won't call 911? And so it will just be for emergency contacts??

    • @T4C00C4T
      @T4C00C4T 2 роки тому +1

      Note, I understand someone could physically skip the 911 call with the swipe. But I'm wondering if it can be disabled all together. So only Emergency contacts would be available upon fall detection.

    • @EllensTipsForiOS
      @EllensTipsForiOS  2 роки тому

      I think it’s main function is to call 911. So I don’t think this is possible.

    Hello Ellen, in emergency contacts, will the watch call my contact even if this person only has a residential landline and no cell phone or does the emergency contact need to have a cell phone???

    • @EllensTipsForiOS
      @EllensTipsForiOS  Рік тому

      When you fall the watch connects to 911 but sends a text with your location to your emergency contact. Hope that helps.

    do you need a cellular connection to se fall detection?or how far away from your phone will the watch work ?

    • @EllensTipsForiOS
      @EllensTipsForiOS  Рік тому

      Good question Mr Bob, as long as your phone is nearby say I think 30 feet. The call should be made to emergency services. If you have a cellular watch then the phone isn’t needed.

  • @terriem3922
    @terriem3922 Рік тому

    I read that the emergency service is only on internet or wifi, so that could be important. There is a gps version of the watch. Can you verify?

    • @EllensTipsForiOS
      @EllensTipsForiOS  Рік тому

      Hi Terrie, it doesn’t matter which version of the Watch you have. The two versions are GPS and Cellular. The Cellular watch can be used without an iPhone because it has a phone number attached to it. The GPS version needs to be in close proximity to your watch. It’s connected via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. So for Fall Detection to work on a GPS Watch it just needs to be in close proximity. Most people carry their phone with them. Even at home the phone would probably be close enough to trigger Fall Detection. Hope that helps. Thanks for the question.

    HI Ellen its great I came across your website, I m thinking of getting one for my mom along with an iphone, Can u recommend the minimum version of watch and iphone for this ? my mom is not tech savvy at all, so I don't want an overkill Im told by apple sales staff that fall detecton is really on accurate on Series 8 and 9 Watch only , I forgot if SE is good enough, but you are saying that series 4 onwards has fall detection? which watch is accurate enough to detect fall detection for seniors?

    My dad just had a scare this weekend and luckily we were there when it happened and we were able to take him to the hospital. However, my dad has a series 3 and my sister and I are wanting to purchase the newest version 7. I know for me, apple series 6 wakes me when I have low heart rate detected and when I have nightmares from Army PTSD. Is there a way that if you have a stubborn father, and he presses, “No, I’m fine.” And then later passes out and is unresponsive and low heart rate, can the watch call emergency service if low heart and if he stops breathing?? Thank you!

    • @EllensTipsForiOS
      @EllensTipsForiOS  2 роки тому +1

      I believe that the watch will only call emergency services when you’ve had a hard fall. It will notify you of the low heart rate and if you have A-fib but will not call.

    Will the fall function work if you haven't entered a "passcode" ? And how do you get a passcode? I do have an Apple ID but I assume that's different. Thanks for any help. I basically got a new I-Phone and an Apple Watch at the same time and am just trying to figure it all out. I don't want to have to use a code to get into my phone unless I have to.

    • @EllensTipsForiOS
      @EllensTipsForiOS  Рік тому +1

      Great question HC! I don’t believe you need to have a passcode enabled for Fall detection. Passcode is the 4 or 6 digit code you use to unlock your devices. Here’s an Apple support link you may find useful. support.apple.com/guide/watch/manage-fall-detection-apd34c409704/watchos
      Let me know if I can be of further help.

      @@EllensTipsForiOS Thank you!! :>). I should probably use a passcode but there's not much to hide on my phone if for some reason it got into someone else's hands. But I know it's "best practices" to have one. When I got my new phone the passcode I entered was screwed-up for some reason and my new phone was locked until I could get an appointment at the local Apple Store...so don't want to go through that again. I think the Verizon guy did something wrong. But I'll look for a tutorial on setting a passcode and will probably go ahead and do it ASAP.

    Thanks for the video. I found this because I was trying to find out why my fall detection didn’t work. As I checked my watch settings it turns out that it was on correctly. So why didn’t it work when I had a hard fall two days ago ??? I was going to let the dogs out and for the first in ten years my dog ran right between my legs taking my legs right out from me. It happened so fast it was like walking out on ice. The only thing I can think of is because I tried to reach up to knock on the window to alert my wife but I couldn’t reach it so I laid there for a minute until she just happened to come to the door and found me. So I’m wondering if you should make sure to tell your viewers to stay still or else I believe this fall detection won’t work. If they try moving and find that they can’t get up, they my have just cancelled the fall detection. Just my thoughts as I’m not sure why mine didn’t work.

    the most useful application would be for the watch to only alert a loved one when you fall. Does not make sense that you have to call 911

    • @EllensTipsForiOS
      @EllensTipsForiOS  Рік тому +1

      Sorry Tony have to disagree! What’s a loved going to do if you need medical help and are unable to answer and are 45 minutes away. If you’re awake and can cancel 911 then you can decide if you need medical attention. Do a search to see how many people have been helped or saved the Apple Watch.

      @@EllensTipsForiOS Thank you Ellen. I work in a Senior Living Community and we had emergency services show up stating that they received an alert from an Apple Watch. They did not have a name or address of the individual. They just had the general location which was our main address. This caused us to check the entire community to make sure everyone was ok. I was just wondering if something specific had to be programmed in settings that would allow the information to get to the emergency services. This is definitely a great feature but it would be nice if a name was given to emergency services. :)
