You touched on it briefly, but one of the most egregious aspects of them in this game is how you aren't punished for using them. Throw a regular check, and you might get blown by. Throw a hipcheck, and you maintain all of your momentum, speed and agility. You don't have to embrace any sense of timing either. It's no risk, all reward.
I don’t like the pressure system. Its a good idea but it just doesn’t work great. Why would my guy get tired and all slow if the opponent just passes and skates around the edges of the offensive zone???
It doesn't even make sense, a hip checks effectiveness is based on using your opponents speed against him where as this game makes it seem like the hip is causing a big impact, plus u can't just angle ur butt into someone while skating backwards and expect that person to fall

There is no "somehow" in this. They have no competition, therefore they prefer not to spend the money nor the time to actually make something halfway decent. EA has never cared, nor will ever care about what people have to say, and that's the sad reality of it all. There's not much we can effectively do to change that.
There's supposed to be a patch coming late this month to balance issues like this. From the beta playtest, it seemed like they wanted to essentially make every aspect that was new to the game maxed out to see how it functioned in game. From the Michigans being capable on every build, to the pressure gauge activating very quickly, to then hip checks and reverse hits being op. Basically everything they mentioned they were to change from the beta is tailored towards nerfing some overpowered element to the game. We had gotten a patch on release day that apparently "fixed" some of these op elements, but not everything was fine tuned. It's like we're still playing the beta until these things get nerfed which may or may not be soon.
But, but, why do they need to do all this. Shouldn't they be the testers? Its a heck of an excuse for a broken game at launch. The features are good, but they are executed badly. If they even played a few games of EASHL, then they would have seen the balance issues. Isn't EA a multi billion dollar company? An indie dev would have better balancing than a huge team smh.
@@milanek1527 You're 100 percent correct. But even though ea is a multi billion dollar company, they utilize their recourses for many other games. NHL is their niche franchise so the budget for this game is much lower due to the amount of players within our community compared to other games. Therefore, there aren't many employees working on NHL. Releasing a game unfinished is also what modern gaming has turning into and that's how companies operate now even with much greater budgets. There's no excuse for that but that's what they choose to do. It's been a major problem for many years.
I see that, but there are other bugs such as your numbers bring the wrong and different colours in clubs and your name often being Jordan nhl in game. I know these are minor glitches that don’t impact the game that much but when the eashl hub and general elements are pretty much a copy and paste from the previous edition, it’s just becomes frustrating to play

The other thing with the hip checks that I hate is that if you are using skill stick it’s a pain in the ass to do hip checks to get even!! It’s L1+R3, so if I accidentally hit L1 first, it just goes into a pass block animation.
My buddies and I have played over 1000 games each for our EASHL club every year over the past 4-5 years, this is by far the most broken mechanic for hitting. My 160 pound dangler dummies everyone with the hip check this year

I’m at the brink of refunding the game tbh, especially cause I too like to play eashl and I can’t play goalie cause of the new controls, the numbers and names are bugged in game (wrong jersey numbers and your name is often Jordan nhl) and so many other issues that make the game not enjoyable

I had high hopes this year…It’s honestly baffling. You can’t dump the puck anymore, hip checks are broken, and for some reason goalies in 6v6 will be stopping every shot with no energy and full pressure, whereas our goalie can’t stop a 2 on 1 cross crease after dominating the offensive zone. This game feels so unlike hockey.
Another thing with the hip checks is there is no recoil. The person delivering the hipcheck suffers no consequence of the collision, unlike other body checks that stun the person delivering them. Makes you a lot more likely to pick the puck up after delivering a hip check than any other body check.
complaining about an EA game is literally pointless, let alone an NHL title. NHL was literally at its best on Xbox 360, and ever since then, it has continued to get worse. Innovative = broken.
Can’t even prep your hits anymore and skate into someone. The moment you push up on right stick your guy just throws himself forward instead of just arms up. This makes engaging to a hit in 1 on 1s much more difficult in timing
It’s incredible to me that people were actually excited for this game. That people still trust and defend EA after they shovel out an almost carbon copy of the same game year after year for full price. I understand getting the game because there’s no other options for NHL video games but expecting more than the bare minimum from this franchise is baffling at this point.
The celebrations are one of the things that really annoy me. I know its not as important as actual gameplay issues but its such a small quality of life feature that, if done properly, would make a solid impact on the realism of the game. How hard can it be to just watch one of the over ONE THOUSAND games across the regular season and see how the players actually react to goals and animate them to reflect that? You can still have the goal scorer do some goofy celebration but to put a shitty zoom on him and have the teammates just awkwardly converge behind him while they do some god awful celebration just makes it hard to enjoy.
There’s no problem with the hip check Johnny, they just finally fixed the physics and made it actually work. I know kids abuse it but the problem is they ruined the skating where it’s hard to avoid getting hit
It’s so funny that EA and everyone are calling hip checking a new feature for the NHL franchise. However EA had hip checking and players being thrown over the boards and broken glass in earlier iterations of the franchise yet EA markets these features as new despite these features simply being reintroduced older features that have been cut from the game for several years.

Glad it's not just me. I only play franchise vs the ai, and even with aggressivity and attributes lowered, everybody gets checked all the time. Everyone on the ice is Scott Stevens going for middle of the ice body checks. Feels like I am playing Wayne Gretzky 3d hockey.
I really question how and why people still play chel. I played EASHL for years with the boys since NHL 09 and since like NHL 20 this game is just the same shit over and over. It’s been really bad the past couple of years.
Not only is the matchmaking in 6v6 broken, the hip check and the Michigan were so horribly implemented into the game with 1 easy button to use it with almost 100% effectiveness, for any WWE fans, it’s like watching Rikishi Phatu just stinkfacing everyone. The Goalie doesn’t even have a save animation for the Michigan. The hip check needs a desperate nerf!

Everything they do to make things feel “authentic” only serve to destroy the organic randomness that is hockey, like this pressure system… like if you’re on the power play…you ALREADY have the upper hand with an extra guy on the ice, that is the inherent advantage, the game doesn’t need to also have this element of “oh you can’t get the puck out while trying to kill a penalty? We’ll just make everything harder and your defense more incompetent” like….it’s making everything so scripted…it’s so unbearable to watch these game come out year after year and they’ve put some other garbage in the game to make it worse and call it an “improvement”, EA needs to be pilloried relentlessly until it’s as unbearable for them as it is for us when we play their game. And thank you for being a long running NHL video game UA-camr and calling EA out, we need more guys with this kind of reach saying these things.
my friend and i play eashl as much as we can, and even playing 3v3, hip checks are still the death of us. with broken full pressure and just the terribly unrealistic shit we see everytime we play just makes us wanna quit even more. and we've been playing these games for about 6 years now. step on a land mine EA
First game me and my 75 year old father skipped out of the all the EASHL teams we made from every game. Hell Rammer posted how proud he was of “Doc” for being an EASHL player. Even got his signature on a copy of the game for him. I think EA has taken so much of their dev team and tools were lowered and they have to only do minor updates. So I think the big updates are done for and this game is pretty much going to slowly die.
It is so annoying when the player attributes don't count in certain game situations. You make a good point and it is well argued with visuals. *Nah, I don't think they always BetaTest it.* The annual sports video game manufacturing season has become very dialled in over the decades in terms of funding, overages, labour needs and labour precedent. God knows there have been plenty of instances where the programmers warned management they didn't have enough time to do a proper job. Management refused to allow OT pay, and so ... they didn't do a proper job. And the game was released on schedule by managment because they knew most of their customers were loyal enough to forgive one bad season. I remember the PC version of NHL 2006. The referees had horizontal stripes! Like mimes! No way that passes beta testing! They totally ran out of time that year. I almost hope the mime stripes were made that way on purpose by the Montreal programmers who weren't budgeted OT hours to do a good job.
Agreed 100% , all my builts are différent size and they all HipCheck great , the slap shot motion to do a bodycheck isn't new, it was in the Nhl20 or 21 tutorial , if they would have at least one good idea out of 15, it would help
It's my first time since NHL 13 that I haven't bought the game at launch and have no intention to buy it soon. I think I've learn my lessons this year lol. But serioulsy it's so disappointing I just want to play at least an okay game
I'm a little late to this party, but even though they were OP I thought it was nice to (briefly) have the old hip-check back instead of the flaccid ones from the past couple of years. Strength and body checking attributes should definitely factor in. They nerfed it pretty hard in recent patches though because of players hating it. I think EA just is over listening to all the EASHL complaints because they aren't buying card packs in HUT haha
I've been playing 6v6 since 2010, last night 75 hits for the other team, 60 for us, all hip checks, it's a shit show this year, what are we gonna do, gather at their main office and start a riot?
I dont understand the dekes or the dumping it feels so different, I like the hip checks as an addition but I wish they were more realistic to attributes
i honestly cant think of one good thing they added to EASHL... the menus are slow and theres a million menus that you have to go through just to edit your player, the "new" circle under the player instead of over their head is a setback of 15 years and just puts too much clutter on the ice, the hitting is unrealistic and frustrating, the deking feels slow and unresponsive, the animations on the ice feel like an arcade game when all players have wanted for years was realism, the goal celly camera was annoying after the first goal (not to mention the other players on the team just standing around in the background doing nothingwhile one guy is celebrating, the pressure meter draining your stats as well as your energy makes no sense (if i get the puck back right after they get full pressure and leave the zone with full energy my character still plays as if hes fully drained and is 30 overall), picking up the puck feels horrible and it just bounces around all over the place when theres multiple people around, the poke checks are less responsive and slower and less accurate than ever, the fact that it doesnt matter if youre 5'6 or 6'9 you can still run over people every hit and knock everyone over makes no sense, balance means nothing as a stat, goalies flail around like theyre in novice, you can still just skate right by an ai defencemen without them even shoving you for a free breakaway everytime. i can go on and on, it just feels like a huge step backwards. I used to get on NHL and be so excited to play the game whereas now everytime i get on its just me trying to convince myself that its not as bad as I think but somehow after every session i come out feeling like the game is worse than what i thought before.
I actually think the hip checks are by far the best part of the game. They ruined deking in this game that’s for sure, it was so much smoother last year.
Truthfully the entire game is broken and outdated in alot of areas not just hitting which is y I saved my $70 and depending on what they do or don't do for be a pro next year depends on if i buy that game either honestly

Last nhl game I bought was nhl 13. Lost all interest when they removed the world cup tourney. Me and 2 or 3 buddies would meet up and couch play as team Canada on weekends. Of course EA had to remove that feature so they will never get another dollar from me.
It boggles my mind on how EA always regresses on NHL games. Are they purposely putting out a bad product or are their developers not in tune with what the community wants? They take out essential stuff like hybrid controls, and instead clutters the game with pointless battle pass options etc.
The devs are just listening to a small crowd of players who are in the online leagues like LG. They also are underfunded, understaffed and overworked while being given mandates to push people to HUT
EA said after the last patch they were going to work on hip checks. I don't believe a word those scumbags say but we shall see. For me the worst part of this game is the full pressure system. EA landed a major w on the application of a penalty for ragging the puck in the d zone then proceed to wipe that smart move away by making the new meta O zone ragging. Absolutely pathetic and from Div 4 through 1 that is all you will play against.

they actually destroyed squad battles as well, the AI is too aggressive and reads inputs even harder than before, I got in a situation where I had my player with the wheels ability blazing and a normal guy not just kept it up to him, but beated him in the skate, I used to play nhl 23 on the all star difficulty and was having some dates with superstar, but in 24 the AI is so broken that I'm losing games in squad battles in pro difficulty, they made the goalies harder to score, but just the AI goalies, yours still gets one shoted pretty easily by the AI, and the pressure system, simply does not work
I was going to say that I think the hip check is amazing and I love it very much but I never really thought about it on 6v6 I mean six guys going down at once would be pretty shity but online versus and stuff I think the hip check is great because even if you missed the hit chances are the other guy is going to get a break away so it's a 50-50 chance

Literally 0 skill involved just hold x and the other player falls over. “Physics based contact” yet both players can have very little speed, you hold x and the player with the puck is flipped onto the ice. This is the worst physics I’ve seen in any video game ever.

I haven't bought the game since NHL 20, and in the years since I've only played them a year late when they come to Xbox Game Pass via EA Play. I know the game is absolute trash. NHL 22 seemed to be rock bottom for EA, but then they made NHL 23 which found an even lower floor. From what I've seen about NHL 24, especially what Johnny is willing to show to the fans, I honestly don't think I am ever going to bother installing NHL 24 when it inevitably comes to Game Pass in April. This game looks absolutely awful with the stuff they added and I can already see myself closing the game mid EASHL match and threatening to uninstall it anyway. I'm already at the point with NHL 23. EA is so garbage, man. Until they actually do the game the right way, which they've shown an inability to do since the game came to the Xbox One with NHL 15, I will continue to keep my money and, possibly, not even play the game even if it's free.

I think for those who exclusively play online, then yes it’s ruining the experience. I play offline so I barely notice any difference but do experience being hip checked every now and then

I try to game test with them so when I get the digital copy of the game, I sell the physical copy and it’s a win win situation. I usually create custom thumbnails and everything for my franchise, everything from trades to contract extensions.

this game is hot garbage... my club team custom jerseys do not work, shows a black jersey with the NHL logo on it. So we are forced to use stock branding which is barely given out by the reward bags. This game has been bad for a long time now and its sad that its come to this.

Another thing with the hip checks is there is no recoil. The person delivering the hipcheck suffers no consequence of the collision, unlike other body checks that stun the person delivering them. Makes you a lot more likely to pick the puck up after delivering a hip check than any other body check.
complaining about an EA game is literally pointless, let alone an NHL title. NHL was literally at its best on Xbox 360, and ever since then, it has continued to get worse. Innovative = broken.
Can’t even prep your hits anymore and skate into someone. The moment you push up on right stick your guy just throws himself forward instead of just arms up. This makes engaging to a hit in 1 on 1s much more difficult in timing
EA is so effin' clueless.... but who do they care. They get their revenue from HUT. Garbage Game Mode. Everything else suffers because of it.
It’s incredible to me that people were actually excited for this game. That people still trust and defend EA after they shovel out an almost carbon copy of the same game year after year for full price. I understand getting the game because there’s no other options for NHL video games but expecting more than the bare minimum from this franchise is baffling at this point.
The celebrations are one of the things that really annoy me. I know its not as important as actual gameplay issues but its such a small quality of life feature that, if done properly, would make a solid impact on the realism of the game. How hard can it be to just watch one of the over ONE THOUSAND games across the regular season and see how the players actually react to goals and animate them to reflect that? You can still have the goal scorer do some goofy celebration but to put a shitty zoom on him and have the teammates just awkwardly converge behind him while they do some god awful celebration just makes it hard to enjoy.
The awkward zoom could be like a special celebration reserved for a hat trick goal or a tenth hit in a game or something

There’s no problem with the hip check Johnny, they just finally fixed the physics and made it actually work. I know kids abuse it but the problem is they ruined the skating where it’s hard to avoid getting hit

It’s so funny that EA and everyone are calling hip checking a new feature for the NHL franchise. However EA had hip checking and players being thrown over the boards and broken glass in earlier iterations of the franchise yet EA markets these features as new despite these features simply being reintroduced older features that have been cut from the game for several years.

I really question how and why people still play chel. I played EASHL for years with the boys since NHL 09 and since like NHL 20 this game is just the same shit over and over. It’s been really bad the past couple of years.

Not only is the matchmaking in 6v6 broken, the hip check and the Michigan were so horribly implemented into the game with 1 easy button to use it with almost 100% effectiveness, for any WWE fans, it’s like watching Rikishi Phatu just stinkfacing everyone. The Goalie doesn’t even have a save animation for the Michigan. The hip check needs a desperate nerf!

I kinda wish 24 was more like 23, in my opinion EASHL wasn't to bad, 24 is going in the wrong direction that's for sure. I've been a buyer since NHL 08. That might end if 25 is still like 24.
Everything they do to make things feel “authentic” only serve to destroy the organic randomness that is hockey, like this pressure system… like if you’re on the power play…you ALREADY have the upper hand with an extra guy on the ice, that is the inherent advantage, the game doesn’t need to also have this element of “oh you can’t get the puck out while trying to kill a penalty? We’ll just make everything harder and your defense more incompetent” like….it’s making everything so scripted…it’s so unbearable to watch these game come out year after year and they’ve put some other garbage in the game to make it worse and call it an “improvement”, EA needs to be pilloried relentlessly until it’s as unbearable for them as it is for us when we play their game.
And thank you for being a long running NHL video game UA-camr and calling EA out, we need more guys with this kind of reach saying these things.

So good video. Hip checks are very very few in nhl and in hockey all over the world.
First game me and my 75 year old father skipped out of the all the EASHL teams we made from every game. Hell Rammer posted how proud he was of “Doc” for being an EASHL player. Even got his signature on a copy of the game for him. I think EA has taken so much of their dev team and tools were lowered and they have to only do minor updates. So I think the big updates are done for and this game is pretty much going to slowly die.

*Nah, I don't think they always BetaTest it.* The annual sports video game manufacturing season has become very dialled in over the decades in terms of funding, overages, labour needs and labour precedent. God knows there have been plenty of instances where the programmers warned management they didn't have enough time to do a proper job. Management refused to allow OT pay, and so ... they didn't do a proper job. And the game was released on schedule by managment because they knew most of their customers were loyal enough to forgive one bad season. I remember the PC version of NHL 2006. The referees had horizontal stripes! Like mimes! No way that passes beta testing! They totally ran out of time that year. I almost hope the mime stripes were made that way on purpose by the Montreal programmers who weren't budgeted OT hours to do a good job.
Agreed 100% , all my builts are différent size and they all HipCheck great , the slap shot motion to do a bodycheck isn't new, it was in the Nhl20 or 21 tutorial , if they would have at least one good idea out of 15, it would help

I'm a little late to this party, but even though they were OP I thought it was nice to (briefly) have the old hip-check back instead of the flaccid ones from the past couple of years. Strength and body checking attributes should definitely factor in. They nerfed it pretty hard in recent patches though because of players hating it.
I think EA just is over listening to all the EASHL complaints because they aren't buying card packs in HUT haha

So the "dump" is just RT/R2 + Right stick up now, it's much higher than the RB+Rightstick UP

I hate this game even more than I did the years before. It's like they can't find out how hockey works no matter what.
i honestly cant think of one good thing they added to EASHL... the menus are slow and theres a million menus that you have to go through just to edit your player, the "new" circle under the player instead of over their head is a setback of 15 years and just puts too much clutter on the ice, the hitting is unrealistic and frustrating, the deking feels slow and unresponsive, the animations on the ice feel like an arcade game when all players have wanted for years was realism, the goal celly camera was annoying after the first goal (not to mention the other players on the team just standing around in the background doing nothingwhile one guy is celebrating, the pressure meter draining your stats as well as your energy makes no sense (if i get the puck back right after they get full pressure and leave the zone with full energy my character still plays as if hes fully drained and is 30 overall), picking up the puck feels horrible and it just bounces around all over the place when theres multiple people around, the poke checks are less responsive and slower and less accurate than ever, the fact that it doesnt matter if youre 5'6 or 6'9 you can still run over people every hit and knock everyone over makes no sense, balance means nothing as a stat, goalies flail around like theyre in novice, you can still just skate right by an ai defencemen without them even shoving you for a free breakaway everytime. i can go on and on, it just feels like a huge step backwards. I used to get on NHL and be so excited to play the game whereas now everytime i get on its just me trying to convince myself that its not as bad as I think but somehow after every session i come out feeling like the game is worse than what i thought before.
I actually think the hip checks are by far the best part of the game. They ruined deking in this game that’s for sure, it was so much smoother last year.
Truthfully the entire game is broken and outdated in alot of areas not just hitting which is y I saved my $70 and depending on what they do or don't do for be a pro next year depends on if i buy that game either honestly

Last nhl game I bought was nhl 13. Lost all interest when they removed the world cup tourney. Me and 2 or 3 buddies would meet up and couch play as team Canada on weekends. Of course EA had to remove that feature so they will never get another dollar from me.
It boggles my mind on how EA always regresses on NHL games. Are they purposely putting out a bad product or are their developers not in tune with what the community wants?
They take out essential stuff like hybrid controls, and instead clutters the game with pointless battle pass options etc.
The devs are just listening to a small crowd of players who are in the online leagues like LG. They also are underfunded, understaffed and overworked while being given mandates to push people to HUT
EA said after the last patch they were going to work on hip checks. I don't believe a word those scumbags say but we shall see. For me the worst part of this game is the full pressure system. EA landed a major w on the application of a penalty for ragging the puck in the d zone then proceed to wipe that smart move away by making the new meta O zone ragging. Absolutely pathetic and from Div 4 through 1 that is all you will play against.

Maybe EA need to go back and look at their roots. Early 00’s nhl seemed like they had it and made it worse from there
they actually destroyed squad battles as well, the AI is too aggressive and reads inputs even harder than before, I got in a situation where I had my player with the wheels ability blazing and a normal guy not just kept it up to him, but beated him in the skate, I used to play nhl 23 on the all star difficulty and was having some dates with superstar, but in 24 the AI is so broken that I'm losing games in squad battles in pro difficulty, they made the goalies harder to score, but just the AI goalies, yours still gets one shoted pretty easily by the AI, and the pressure system, simply does not work
I was going to say that I think the hip check is amazing and I love it very much but I never really thought about it on 6v6 I mean six guys going down at once would be pretty shity but online versus and stuff I think the hip check is great because even if you missed the hit chances are the other guy is going to get a break away so it's a 50-50 chance

The hip checking is a joke this year. Literally 0 skill involved just hold x and the other player falls over. “Physics based contact” yet both players can have very little speed, you hold x and the player with the puck is flipped onto the ice. This is the worst physics I’ve seen in any video game ever.

I haven't bought the game since NHL 20, and in the years since I've only played them a year late when they come to Xbox Game Pass via EA Play. I know the game is absolute trash. NHL 22 seemed to be rock bottom for EA, but then they made NHL 23 which found an even lower floor. From what I've seen about NHL 24, especially what Johnny is willing to show to the fans, I honestly don't think I am ever going to bother installing NHL 24 when it inevitably comes to Game Pass in April. This game looks absolutely awful with the stuff they added and I can already see myself closing the game mid EASHL match and threatening to uninstall it anyway. I'm already at the point with NHL 23. EA is so garbage, man. Until they actually do the game the right way, which they've shown an inability to do since the game came to the Xbox One with NHL 15, I will continue to keep my money and, possibly, not even play the game even if it's free.
Is anybody else having issues queuing up with friends in 6v6? We are able to party up, queue up, but then it never connects us to a lobby. It worked fine last week!

this game is hot garbage... my club team custom jerseys do not work, shows a black jersey with the NHL logo on it. So we are forced to use stock branding which is barely given out by the reward bags. This game has been bad for a long time now and its sad that its come to this.
