    Absolutely great video. Thanks a bunch. Followed it to a T. Here's the issue we are having. So anyone with an idea I'd greatly appreciate it. We bought the car on an online auction, has 130000km. (2012 kia soul 2.0) There was no declarations but upon pick up we found what we thought what was lifter noise. The oil was dirty and like water. We changed the oil and got better but the sound still there. Noisy at start. Better when warm, then noisy when you press the gas, BUT not always. There were times it sounded like an old sewing machine and times where was near perfect. No engine light. No low oil pressure. And the noise would like not be there in line at a drive thru at idle but tapping the gas to move one car up it would rattle. So we first took the valve cover off and discovered there was at least an inch of play on the timing chain between the cam gears. So we figured yep bad tensioner and chain. So we put it together to get it to our shop. When there. Got everything ready. Took valve cover off again and the chain between the cam gears was perfect. Very tight. What? So my son cranked it one turn and the belt was lose again. Ok so took the old timing chain, guides and tensioner off. Tensioner was sticky when pushing it in and out. Like sandy inside. Seemed we found the issue. So new chain, guides and tensioner and here's where I have a problem that would LOVE help with. Got it all together thanks to the guys here at World Mechanics. Then we turn the crank. Timing good BUT a weird issue and my son could feel it coming and I could see it. As he's turning the main bolt on the crank it would start to get harder to turn, he would say here it is, then I'd see the chain DIP between the two cam gears then I hear a 'click' sound then the chain goes back straight and then the crank is easy for less then a second and then starts to get hard to turn again, and again I see the chain 'dip' down between the cam gears, I hear a click and then back to normal. I have checked and the rocker arms are ok, seems the valves are opening and closing fine, I have looked down the cylinder to see if when I hear the 'click' sound if the piston is moving. Nothing. Just the main gets hard to turn twice, the chain dips both times between the cam gears when this happens and the click sound happens. One thing the new chain, guides and tensioner have made the 'click' sound quieter and that 'dip' is alot less then it was with the old chain. I should of took a video but if anyone has an idea. I'd love to listen. Thx alot.
    Question: could it be one or both of the camshaft gears? One jamming causing the DIP of the chain and the it clicks and tightens and then it's ok? Thx

      Sounds like a similar issue I'm working on with a 2016 Kia Forte 2.0 GDI. The owner ran the car really low on oil for months, and I'm pretty sure both vvt cam phasers are catastrophically damaged inside. The engine sounds and runs terribly. It is very slow and lazy to respond to throttle and the power is a fraction of what it should be. It will start and run, but the cylinder head sounds like it's about to come apart (loud make-you-cringe clacking noise). On start-up the noise is horrific, and then a few seconds later after there's some oil pressure, the noise quiets a bit but it's still terrible. I did a compression test and all 4 cylinders are healthy (a little bit over 150psi each). I pulled off the valve cover and the cams, timing chain, valves, and rockers look perfect. Sometimes there's slack in the timing chain in between the intake and exhaust cams, and sometimes the chain is taut (when rotating the crank by hand). There are codes in the engine computer saying both the intake and exhaust cams are out of time. So yes, I think both of us have cam phaser problems. Is that what your issue ended up being?

      @timwilliams4739 2 роки тому

      @rgd did you every get this sorted? You're explaining exactly the issue I'm having with a soul. Down to buying it at online auction. We changed the lifters and it didn't fix it. I took it back apart and found the almost inch of timing chain play. I was thinking it needed replaced too. But now I'm not so sure it will fix the noise.

    • @TheCitrus13
      @TheCitrus13 2 роки тому +1

      @@timwilliams4739 you will see that the timing chain will have play and then as it moves it tightens up. I thought piston rattle but that wasn't it so my son and I didn't he chain and gears. Put it together and found it to be 50% better maybe. So I did the next less stressful thing. I sold it at auction with announcing new timing chain and gears and has some noise. Got my money back at least. Not for all the work I did tho. I honestly can't tell you what it could be. Maybe something with the lifters. But for me the headache is over. I wish I could help u more

      @@eddiesheeran5791 sorry I missed this Eddie. What did u find out. I replaced the gears and Chain and tensioner. I maybe got it 50% better. I had not clue. So it ended up back at auction. It was most certainly strange.

      @@TheCitrus13 No worries! I'm sorry to hear that man. Funnily enough, my job went badly also. I went all out and replaced the entire cylinder head that came with good cams & timing gears (cam phasors). I thought the car would be as good as new again, but the bottom-end was totally ruined from negligent oil starvation. No oil pressure, terrible noises, and the car would barely pick up speed at full throttle. I found an entire used engine on eBay that was advertised to be in good condition with a warranty, so I bought it and had it freighted to my house. I installed it & turned the key thinking the car would be 100% again, and in about 20 seconds, the oil pressure light came on and the engine sounded like it was eating itself. I couldn't believe my terrible luck!!! I got my money back, but the eBay seller said the engine came from a car that rolled over in an accident. They claimed they tested the engine thoroughly, but obviously they didn't. So much work, and the repairs failed both times. The owner ended up cutting his losses & buying a new car. This whole situation wouldn't have happened if the owner simply checked & added oil regularly.

    Hi, I have a Kia proceed 1.4 from 2009 (110hp) and I want to check the distribution chain. Just to check. I was thinking of opening the cover above the engine but without removing oil or anything. Oil should not be below? Will something leak if I open that lid just to see the chain? See if it's wide or not? And after I put the lid back on with the same gasket.

    Ok, Great video but I need to address something. First, If you are going to replace the timing chain, why not leave all the detail in the video? Like how to align the mark for the engine to be in TDC? I would have to stop the video go to a different video on my phone to know how to do it. Same for the torque on bolts. Why leave them in a different video, when you can just have them here step by step? Again, the video is great detail explanation, but this is just a few quirks I see in this video.
