From what I can find it's not allowed in a lot of races to help other cars. There are neutral cars as even the video says to do just that, but even they have to follow the rules. Can't squeeze in between groups at will if somebody needs you. You gotta let the cyclists do their cycling and drive at a pace and place that doesn't interfere with them at all times. That means being significantly slower because obviously at 120 mph the car could've been there in under 1 minute instead, but it does mean the people the sport is actually about get to be safe and won't have to deal with ahole support cars cutting them off because their teammate is in trouble.

I’d be pissed at my team for not helping him. I want to win because I’m better, not because of a simple problem that could happen to anyone. Bad luck happens, but bad sportsmanship is preventable.
Only the top professional races have a neutral support car, and those are provided free by a manufacturer, so they can get the advertising exposure on TV. Like the Tour de France for example. Most races simply don’t have one. In a large well organized pro race, the Marshalls of the race (maybe in a car, or on a motorcycle) can give permission to a team car to move up, if there is a breakaway well out in front of the peloton, with their rider(s) in it. But not all races are top level pro events. In a lesser race, the cars just stay behind the peloton, in the interests of safety. And in even lower level events, there simply are no cars. Cycling is a team sport. In a good team, the leader will have support rider(s) with him, to take a pull in front, give him a lead out in a sprint, give him food and water, and give him their bike in base it’s needed, sacrifice themselves so the leader can finish as well as possible, for the team. So, this guys team was either not a strong team, or they made a tactical error of some kind. So, as in all sports, they should lose, because they were not the best team that day.

That's typical in bicycle racing. Mechanical problems are a fact of life in the bicycling world. Team support cars usually focus on their #1 guy but they will stop if they come up another team member who is in trouble, and nothing disrespectful if another team's car passes you by. You sound like a shitty teacher. You SHOULD be teaching them to help each other, and how to ask for help. Not “the world sucks!” You’re LITERALLY a huge part of the problem with it.
That pulled my heart strings. I wanted to give him my bike, i wasn't there tho and he still won in my heart
WELL DONE BROTHER
❤
Damn his face made me😢,where is the sportsmanship and the humbleness, anybody should of helped him,he wanted it so bad
I'm not one for empathy but I feel bad for that dude. There was literally nothing he could do. He gave it his all (which was equivalent of a first place finish) and came 60th.
you aren't one for empathy? so you are a sociopath? nice
@@mikella959 A sociopath disregards right and wrong, which I do not. Thank you for showing your obvious lack of knowledge on the subject.
I dont care what team they are, if I see someone in need, Im helping them.
I'm guessing you're not a pro athlete then boss?
From what I can deduce in other comments, it's actually not allowed to help other teams. So no, you cannot help them even if you wanted to.
@@terrarizer766yes, only neutral cars can assist aside from your team. You'll get penalized otherwise.
I'm not Colombian but we are both latinos, and to see a brother so lost and left behind, fuck man what a guy, still did his absolute best and that reporter is the shit!! What a great woman.
The look in his face 😢
Smh really it would have been great pr for another team to help him. He was not going to win with that tire issue. It would have looked great for the the team that helped him and give him hope for humanity at that time. Instead he had to have a reporter from his nation to give him inspiration.😢
Yes and when the real team needs them they are 4 minutes late then.
Other team cars cannot assist even if they wanted to. It's in the rules where assistance is only available to your own team or neutral cars, else you get penalized. Just really bad luck and bad positioning from his team car there.
Support not supporting
Lolll crying for this 😂
For real the little tolerance to frustration is insane just 4 minutes.
I know how this guy feels. Today I sat my A-level exam and spent an hour and 15 minutes, of my 1.5 hours, writing the best answers possible. 15 minutes before the end I realised the questions I just answered are none of the questions that will be marked. So I just failed my end of college exam in the worst way possible (on a good start).
Team needs to be fired
Well, look at that some graciousness from a newscaster that was a nice example of being compassionate and extending humanity to somebody who had an unfortunate situation happened to him.
No matter if im an American, this is so sad, feel so bad for him,and what an amazing news reporter
I am proud of him
It’s a character building moment. Anything can happen and you can go from 1st place to last in an instant. In the time of and after reflection of the hard moment is where you grow as a person.
When you have your heart set on something, especially something representing where you’re from in a way like this, I can’t imagine the devastation and disappointment. I would’ve been in the exact same boat as this guy. Props to the news person, I bet that meant the world to him
A competition won without compassion is no win and certainly not an honorable one😢 what a disgrace.
This guy deserved a real race❤
Average road bike rider
not at all lmfao
Exactly, it's called a competition. And someone tell him to buck up, theres no crying in cycling!
Athletes cry all the time. It’s a part of being competitive
@@sollertiskhan3254goo goo ga ga
Well said.
@@DeepVoiced It really wasn’t lol. There’s nothing wrong with having emotions. You should be allowed to cry because you’re disappointed in an important competition. Many athletes have cried during their events because it’s a normal human response. There was nothing “well said” about their comment. As long as you’re not hurting anyone else, who cares if someone cries? It’s instinctual.
"Someone tell him " do it yourself big guy 😂😂
Yes, I remember this. It brought tears to me to see his heartbreak😢. And the saddest part NO ONE helped. That's was sooo sad.
That frustration is real. Feel for him.
Damn this is heart wrenching. Come back next year bro you got this!
He kept going and finished. Chapeau!
so sad, how do we all learn from this? come prepared next time? he worked so hard and we all know that he is the true winner!! congradulations mate hard work deserves recognition🎉
Probably for the best, I mean those mountain bike tyres were holding him back 😂
Poor guy, this is heartbreaking.
seeing him is soo heart breaking😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
This is what happens when sports become elitest!
And his best just wasn't enough😂
How devastating 😢but he still got to the race good on him as a world competitor
Imagine the praise the team would have gotten if they decided to help him. I really hope this dude succeeds, and i dont even watch cycling
He will be a force to reckon with. Show them in the years to come, champ
He needs a better team. Thats heartbreaking. Even more pitiful how little others cared about doing the right thing.
he will come back stronger than ever.
His team and humanity felt him😢
Teamwork makes the dream work
Competition is good but not at the expense of your humanity 😢
It's disgusting that no one stopped to help him.
This is hard but as an 18 year old yo just now be realizing people don't have your back and you are on your own is perfect timing. He will never look to others again, hopefully.
I fckng remember seeing this in facebook and teared up that even my wife was laughing and thought it as ridiculuous. But as somebody who trained for years for running and then for a half ironman, I felt the frustration and helplessness. Imagine these guys training 6 days a week for months and then just one flat tyre that is beyond tour control ruin your preparation and time
sportsmanship at its finest
Poor kiddo. This sense of abandonment will haunt him forever
Colombia shared a service repair with other countries. He knew the risk, and this is a competitive competition.
When he started walking carrying his bike you knew how much it meant
Kinda feels like a representation of real life. Only your team really has your back, and sometimes, they show up too late n its all up to you
I would have stopped. Seeing a person crying like that would have gotten to me.
The team was out there sightseeing while his world was crumbling 😢
I felt so heartbroken for him, just crushed!
He remembers the goal keeper that got shot on his return for messing up the World Cup.
