    The best part of this has got to be the kids. Showing great reception and fantastic patience! I know I didn't have that kind of patience when I was younger (still don't, if I'm being honest).
    I'm around 23 years in, with multiple disciplines of biking under my belt, in that time. I do OK with wheelies. I cannot say that I have the ability or confidence to pull my front wheel off and give that a go, nor do I see that in my future. But alas, here I am, watching a "how to wheelie" tutorial - always room for improvement.
    I do like the practice on a slight uphill and have recommended this to others. There seems to be a push/pull regarding weight, resistance and gravity happening. I need to rewatch, but the pedal position tip was a new one for me, and I think is a super helpful detail.
    Wheelies are not only fun, but a natural progression, as well as being useful out on the trail to bail you out sometimes. Being able to manipulate the front end of the bike is a diverse skill.

    • @PorterMTB
      @PorterMTB  Рік тому +2

      Glad you enjoyed the vid! I agree that it's useful many times on trail to get your front wheel up a root or rock. Also, never to late to start trying, they are really fun! Maybe throw on a back protector or backpack just in case you loop out though haha!

But through this video, I think I will try my best to do it.

    I remember riding with a group of dudes a few years back and the guy in front of me did a wheelie all the way down a section of single track as fast as I was riding on two wheels. 😮. Now I get to learn the his ways! Can a 40 year old learn to ride a wheelie?

    • @PorterMTB
      @PorterMTB  Рік тому +1

      That's awesome, I love riding wheelies on trails! You can definitely learn at 40, just take your time, use flat pedals, lower your seat a bit, and make sure your brakes work good and you are good at modulating them, that's really the key part that keeps you from flipping over backwards. Just practice 5-10 minutes a day and you'll get it. It'll be slow progress for a while and you might not feel like you're gonna get it, but stick with it and you'll get there. Once you figure out the front to back balance point through pedaling and braking the rest will come pretty quick.

      Oh man I feel you, I actually had it happen recently as well. I was in a concrete parking lot, got on my friend from Australia's bike and clipped into his pedals. Before I remembered that Aussies run their back brake on the left side and front brake on the right, I popped a wheelie up and when I grabbed what I thought was the back brake there was nothing, I went straight to my tailbone and back on the pavement still clipped in, that one hurt for a while!!

    I learnt to wheelie a bike a long while ago. I had a really bad bike to begin with, it had rim brakes and the rim was bent just a little so braking was uneven. Each rotation it would brake a little more by itself, that really taught me how to feather the brake. I got decent at that bike, riding wheelies the entire way over a turning narrow bridge(1.5m wide and 150 meters long maybe). When i borrowed my friends mums mtb with a hydraulic disc brake it was super easy to wheelie, i just had to get used to the feel of an mtb since it had a different frame and balance point. I taught my friend to feather the brake and he got pretty good too. I learnt to get into a wheelie without pedaling and also doing really fast wheelies with his mums bike. Also learnt to wheelie a ”old woman bike”. One of those that has a bent frame and pedalbrakes.
    The fact that i learnt to wheelie on the bike that i did goes to show that you can learn on pretty much any bike.
    It’s been a while since then and now im tryna learn to wheelie my dirtbike, as soon as i start riding this year im gonna learn to wheelie it.

      @PorterMTB  9 місяців тому

      That's awesome to hear, it's definitely hard to feather the brakes with a bent rim, I've had bikes like that before, but it made you good! I never figured out how to wheelie dirt bikes, but I will someday!
