Beautiful pen! I started this video and had to pause it almost immediately when my husband protested to the statement that Japan was The Place for glass pens, insisting that the history in glass pen making was longer in Italy. Then I unpaused the video and he was corrected almost immediately, haha! Thank you for showing us how these are made, it's very interesting. :)
I was surprised by how compact all Lucas' equipment was. I was expecting to see a big open flame with bellows to keep it hot, lol! I saw a glass blowing demonstration at Silver Dollar City when I was a kid. The technology has come a long way since the time of the settlers. Awesome video Alisa!
It would be a journaling dream to be able to use a glass pen made by Lucas!! The pens, the process (pretty dang cool - erm I mean hot), his studio, the thoroughly delightful neighborhood.....the whole process....just beautiful!! Thank you for sharing ❤
so beautiful!! lucas is so talented! never thought about an american making things in japan as japanese but it makes sense, and his creations are right in the thick of the modern glass pen scene!
I've been fascinated by glass blowing since I was a kid. I used to watch glass blowers make their glass art at Christmas markets where I used to live. Lucas makes some beautiful pens! Thank you for sharing his work with us.
Glad you enjoyed it. Much like you, I had seen glass blowing at tourist spots, but watching someone make something I would enjoy using was a lot more fun!
Fantastic video! Love seeing where Lucas is based and his pen making process is mesmerising. Especially working the gold and silver into the glass...a work of art! 😍💛😭🔥
My first time watching your UA-cam shorts and videos. I love the smooth-talking, the information and especially the humor. It makes learning more about calligraphy and pens extra fun and different from other channels.
Thank you for the tour and explanation of his shop and process. His skill is very impressive. I've owned two glass dip pens, from two different European countries. My first one is beautiful and writes very well, but I returned the other one because, rather than holding the ink, it let it all drop to the paper in a blob. My guess is Lucas' pens would be far more reliable than my second one, and I would guess that he tests them before shipping them out! I'd love to "win" this one, but 1) I already have a glass dip pen that works and will let someone else have this pleasure and 2) I have no Instagram account. Good luck to all entrants and, "Your Inkiness, the Duchess of Nibs" 😎, thank you very much !
hahaha! Thank you so much Randy! I wish I could run the giveaways here on UA-cam, but amazingly, winners sometimes never contact me! And using IG makes it easier to hunt them down. I may do some here on UA-cam later. You are right, he tests each one as he smooths the nib. I've been very impressed with his work.
When I was studing chemistry we played tinting glass using different chemical elements. But this is a work of art. I can't take my eyes off incredible. 😍
This was so awesome and a cool process!!! Now I am going to look at some of Lucas’ creations 💕💕💕. Thank you for sharing and showing us this beautiful process.
I can’t say that I’ve ever seen such an amazing and engaging look at glass pen craftspersonship. It’s absolutely lovely and makes me feel like my J Herbin glass pen is not up to the task 😅😅 I really want to look into owning one of these, winner or not. Thank you so much Inky.
Thank you so much! The most important part is that your pen works and does it's job. Where you get the upgrade from is the artisanal hand crafting, the different kinds of nibs you can select and its sheer beauty.
Totally fascinating! Dear Ms Rocks, your taste in selecting topics for your videos is superb, your video and narration outstanding, and your production magnificent. Thank you from Canada!
Really liked this video. I took a class years ago and made glass beads. Some of Lucas’s techniques were familiar. You are so correct about how hard it is to find nice glass pens in USA. I am definitely checking out his website. Thanks so much!
Your videos are the best fountain pen related content on youtube. They are all beautifully shot and edited and you go into such great detail with a touch of humor. I always look forward to them.
Thank you for another informative video--what a privilege to be able to actually visit and videotape a master craftsman in action! The process is hypnotizing--and even moreso in such a serene environment.
hahaha! I really knew nothing about glass blowing until I researched this and met him. It was pretty confusing at first (and I had to return to get more clips...)
It is such a joy to watch a true artisan work at his craft. You appreciate so much more the value of this delicate piece of art when you watch it being made.
Thank You for doing a video on this very interesting, I am new to fountain pens and now am interested in getting a glass pen to play with the inks with instead of inking up a pen or dipping one of my pens and having to clean I figured a glass pen would be so much easier. Your video was so informative I enjoy your commentary when you do your videos. The process is absolutely amazing to watch. Thank you again,
Glad you enjoyed it. What you want to use glass pens for is exactly what many people do. You may want to also look into the Kakimori dip pen, Sailor Hocoro or other types of dip pens too
The whole process is full of wonder and curiosity tempered by chemistry and talent- all orchestrated by Lucas, who is obviously in love with the craft! Thank you so much for bringing this to my living room.
What a fascinating process! Thank you for taking all of us into his studio. Having made one blobby, but round bead, in a friend’s lamp working studio I know this is not something you attempt at home. Even if you do have a Zippo.
The entire video was wonderful - the walk through Lucas's neighborhood (I want to move there), the crazy van, and getting to watch Lucas make the amazing pen. Thank you!
I am so amazed by glass artists and how they can transform glass into pieces of art using fire and elements! Lucas’ work is gorgeous!! Thanks for sharing his story and also his pen making technique! I’d love one of the artist nib pens.
Wow, that was amazing to watch. What a talent Lucas is. It was fascinating to see his process and beautiful works of art. Thank you for taking us on this adventure and the walk to his studio was beautiful too!
Nice of Lucas to let you film the process, including the nib production. I feel like it's only a matter of time before you make your pilgrimage to Aun in Kurashiki, after hearing CY and Khuê wax lyrical about it on the podcast.
Thanks for doing this! I have been hearing all about the Japanese glass pens on the Tokyo Station podcast! Now I know what all the fuss is about! I look forward to obtaining one in the future!

Looks like there will be Hanabi Glass Studio items in our future. 😅 Arigato, Influencer.Rocks ps. I think NHK needs to give you a call; your intimate vids have great narrative power.
hahaha! Thank you so much! You made my day as this video was a real headache. Trying to narrow all my clips down to something digestible was difficult.
I like that the narrator mentioned the kiln annealing temperature in both Fahrenheit and Centigrade. I've always used centigrade and have settled on 555 C for my most common annealing temperature. I'm a scientific glassblower (45 years now) so making art is a new thing for me.
Thank you for sharing the art and studio of Lucas. I can’t imagine, I guess over twenty years of it explains some-how does this happen? Even after seeing it I believe I witnessed magic and science. So one again I thank you for the beautiful presentation for the eyes and places I will never have the chance to see!
