Badass- but silly. When you break glass under stress you want the glasses over your eyes, not stuck on your forehead... Also- curtains blowing in the background AND a long plait down your front while using a heavy duty torch like that is just inviting disaster. Safety first...
Rafi Lewin In fact those glasses are not intended to protect the eyes from splinters of braking glass (because even if you did something wrong and your piece of work would break under stress no fragments would fly around - if you are thinking of prince rupert's drop this is a very spacial strory, usually you won't get into such a situation "doing your daily glas blowing work" ;-) ). The main function of these special glasses is to filter out some specific rays of light from the glowing glas in the flame that can harm your eyes. Nice side benefit with this filtering is that the glasses also reduces this very brightness of the flame around the glas so the melting glas in the middle of the flame is more clearly visible. (Sorry, maybe not the best and most simple kind of explanation but English is not my first language and the last lesson in schoool was just about 29 years ago... ;-) ) Well, the plait certainly should not swing around. ^^ But you never lean over the torch or get to close to it with your head, you always stay behind it so the hair and plait should be save enough - ditto for the cutains though of course it would do any harm to have low-flammable fabric. ^^ Just to say: I had a full vocational education as a glas engraver and glas cutter, we also got some lessons in some other glas art crafts so as glas blowing... ;-)
the glasses are didymium glasses they filter out the sodium flare from the glass and the uv off the flame you dont see that big ball of orange while you have them on your able to see the where the glass is heating up and youd get welders flash without them
Oh my gosh, I am soo excited. My great grandfather brought a glass pen with him from Germany when he emigrated to the USA in the early 1900's. His pen handle was cobalt and the nib was clear. You could not see where one started and one ended. My mom worked at a place where there were super microscopes and even then one could not see the demarcation. Watching you do this today I understand why. I am so glad that someone is continuing this beautiful art. I can't wait to send this to my brother who has custody of the pen,
lynne bash Thank-you so much for sharing this beautiful story! I was talking with my family at dinner this evening about how personal these pens are... Each one has a story and a reason for existing and a purpose in its' use..... Your story is so touching and lovely. Thanks again. :)

Wow. I am so impressed with your cool, calm, professional manner. You know a sign of a true artist is when they can make a difficult skill look easy. You are truly amazing. I would like to buy a couple for Christmas, so I will see you at the Market. Wishing you much love and success.
I watched this awhile ago and it stayed in my mind. I went to buy a gift for someone today and remembered this video. Little did I know I would find pens made by the artist here! Small world. It's beautiful and will make a perfect gift!
I am so glad to finally see you & your process and secretly crazy about the fact your Canadian! I have seen your pens everywhere on the internet, congrats! Go girl!
I knew about the glass pens and how nice they write. I knew about artist masking fluid and sizing. But I never thought about using them all together. Awesome job.
I am a glass artist as well, I must tell you your torch work is great and your video is excellent. I have made glass dip pens for years and I was impressed as I watched your video. Keep up the great work.
Would love one of those gorgeous, delicate pens. Growing up, we used to go to Greenfield Village. My favorite stop was always at the glass blowing building. I still will stand from start to finish so I can see whatever is being blown that day. Loved your video. Thanks
I just LOVE your wonderfully functional and gorgeous pens!!!! I am sharing your video on my FB page, Roberta's Artistic Adventures & Favorite Links. I think your pen would work so much better than the Sharpies/Nano Liners and other markers I use in my mixed media projects. Those end up with ruined nibs and can't be used more than just a few times. Your pens are glass and would continue to work and as you demonstrated, hold the ink to allow longer applications of writing and drawing before requiring another dip into ink. LOVE these, Janelle!
im a student and i absolutely love pens and wanted a special one for Christmas, one that really stands out and im very interested in these pens you make. Hopefully a Christmas present
Those are insanely beautiful! The world needs to feature true artists on massive platforms and her handwriting is so beautiful. Mine looks like it got hit by lightening lol
...oh and of course the pen is absolutly amazing, pleasantly surprising is the fact that it retains so much ink without smudging the paper! Kudos to you mam!
I find glasswork amazing... well, actually, I find most craftsmanship amazing as I am wholly untalented... regardless, this was a fantastic video and I enjoyed it. I hardly ever hand-write stuff, and even when I do I use a standard ball-point pen, but she made me want one of those dip pens.
this is absolutely stunning. this woman has a nice voice, tells interesting things, it's not a bullocks video. i like the subtility, and being very nice and clear. thanks for posting, and this woman is really a master. HQEA
I have never used a glass pen before but i admire the handwriting. I don' t know but unique handwriting always gets my attention. i will visit your page, though i never subscribed any channel so far, and would continue to do so. Still, i will keep searching for your more videos by keeping myself anonymous.
Thank you so much, loved your video. and i read somewhere that you could use masking fluid easily with a tool, but forgot which tool it was...thank you so much 4 reminding me ❤
Your videos make me proud to be Canadian, the craftsmanship is remarkable in all your videos and the people seem to genuinely enjoy their job. This channel is truly unique and wonderful.😄
Thank you for this wonderful video. I'm only using soft glass right now until I get my Devardi torch, but I'll try it with the soft glass and hope for the best. P.S. You're adorable.
This was simply lovely. Relaxing, interesting and unbelievably soothing. 9gag be blessed, I've subscribed and looking forward to your next videos. Making us discover so many skilled artisans and witness such craftsmanship, you guys are awesome. Love from France :)
I very much love your glass pens and even went to your etsy shop and alas you have nothing listed, and I read your blurb about what has been going on in your life, I hope to soon see these pens in your shop soon, would be really great to have one.
Those glasses she wears while heating up the glass make her look unintentionally badass
David Boucard and cute...
