  • I bought a Harbor Freight plastic welder to repair my grass chute on my 15 year old Troy-Built lawn tractor. It was only $16.00 so why not try it. I think it did a good job except for the tip bending.
This video was made as a demonstration on how to repair things and should not be done with out the proper training and safety equipment. The G Automotive and More and Its affiliates are not responsible for any damage or personal injury. Please if you don't have the ability to do these demonstrations, don't try and get a professional to do it for you.

Great video. Thanks for sharing the tips and tricks on technique and materials!!
    Two years later it's $24 so 50% inflation…🥴😨

You did good. Seemed like it was the first time you welded something. You made mistakes for me in some cases. Reading the instructions in the box made no sense to me, so when I saw you melting the dry screen into the base plastic, I was thrilled.

And the zip ties after you do the initial two rings to hold it in place you can clip them back out and remember you can just simply realign the inside or outside either or the work fantastic with the fiberglass body compound it'll make it a shell within a shell

By the way once you get the wire screen embedded straddling the breaking point do remember you can gently pull it left or right and it will be forgiving enough to help you in other words you can do slight curves

Now you might need to test the "welding" repair procedure on your garden tractor to determine if the welded seam holds? 🚜

Even a soldering iron the tip will bend if you put too much pressure on it what you should have done was cleaned the plastic that was there originally scrape it a little bit or sand it down to fresh plastic run the soldering iron over it lay the mesh down on the melted plastic from that and then weld back over it

Now that I have used it a couple times now, 80watts is not enough power to melt the plastic fast enough to get good plastic flow.

ifthe weld didnt penetrate and bond deep enough the actual ducting will break loose.. It appeard from my view, that the weld was melted only into the surface for the screen to just lightly bond. Sure would like an update on how many mow jobs it lasts in terms of actual mow time. Just call me pessimistic on just about everything, cause that what many of us have learned to be on just about everything. Im with you on this test because I want to believe, but it may take some annoying expectations from me and others .

I melted the screen in and so far with 1 season of use no brakeage. The screen is what gets it strength.

@@tommygunn7745 I used it on a 3/4 acre yard for mowing and picking up leaves. At least 25 times on that yard and then 25 times on my 1/4 acre yard. So far working fine.

You need to sand it first

Why? This chute was thin at the seam where it broke.
