Warrior Siren Maybe he wasn't but I bet he had a lot of unspoken resenment and jealousy that made him punish the prince. So that he concluded that Mr.Faciliers plan to change places was a good idea
He's also based - design wise - off of Baron Samedi, one of the death Loa (voodoo spirits). He's a bokor which means evil voodoo shaman and the first time I saw this song I knew that I was in love with this man right here XD Disney done him right in the design department lol
i just realized when facilier said "it's the green that i see." that actually was a double meaning that he was going to transform him into a frog. pretty clever.
I feel like that's true because they need to make an impact because watching a Disney movie you know the villain will lose in some way, so they need a great song to establish how evil they are, or what all they stand for. Weather they're intentionally bad or bad but see themselves good, a good song can make a villains entrance and tell you so much about how they tick. At least in terms of Disney.
Yeah, I never watched the film but just seeing this out-of-context this is exactly how temptation-exploitation goes down in real life, voodoo masks optional.

The symbolism in this song is crazy detailed! I also loooove that the voodoo dolls sing "you got what you wanted but lost what you had" at the end, it gives me chills every time
It also a good lesson in life as well. Some selfish decisions are made where you get what you want and lose you had. Example : cheating in a relationship, choosing wealth over family and friends, etc. All good things come with a price, sometimes the price tag is just hidden.
+Rain Peach at that point in the movie, it wasnt pointed out that he WAS the villian. besides, neither mufasa or simba were like that with scar, either
Sad part is, Dr. Facilier would have had the Prince's complete support, if he had simply told him "Hey, you let me turn you into a frog for a week, and you will be free to go and turned back into a human, and will never have to worry about funds again cause your doppelganger will have funds for you to pull from whenever you want."
@@christopherorta41 He had to do this, he needed something to sacrifice for his voodoo gods whenever he makes a 'deal' so the prince had to be tricked into becoming a frog. As a frog i'm pretty sure the voodoo gods would eat him eventually or take his soul after a while or something.
Sorry for late reply but haven't we forgotten about Frollo, from the hunchback of notre dame? Less and less people know about him nowadays and it seems like the movie is slowly sliding into a state of forgotness yet he is most probably in the top 3 of the best Disney villains of all time
My personal favorite villain ever. Facilier just reminds me so much of the devil. His cleverness, the foreshadowing, trickery and swagger. Well done, Disney.
@@rejecteddan3136 yeah, Frollo is scary and everything, but he's not clever and smooth like Facilier. I'm Christian and in the bible the devil is described as very cunning and would use many tricks and schemes to get what he wanted. Frollo is more like a demon: extremely evil and not trying to hide it.
this movie really suffered from having way too much going on, Facilier could've saved it though, he's just that great a villain. his song is similar in a way to two of what are probably some of the best disney characters (Genie and Ursula) He has Ursula's manipulative personality and the genie's active mind, as well as a friendly facade that does remind me of genie's as well
definitely one of the best disney villains! even though this movie isn't that great (I mean it's not bad, just not like a Mulan or Little Mermaid) but he's an excellent villain. He was in the Hocus Pocus disney world Halloween show along with alot of other villains and it was really cool.
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) tbh he's my favorite because he's just so unlike the other villains. Most of them want to take over this or that. Maleficent was just pissy, she wanted to hurt the king. Ursula wanted to rule the whole sea. This bastard could do card tricks and came so close to getting New Orleans under his hand AND VOODOO DO YOU KNOW HOW COOL THAT IS
Ogun Balogun good call, but it don't think it really matters. I'm not shaking anyone's hand if the context shares more than about 50% similarity with this context
Don't know if anyone's pointed this out yet,but the animation for this movie was amazing. He pulls his skull of his hat and onto his face, wherever his shadow moves on the wall the patterns change to skulls(?) Honestly this movie is underrated
The "You're changin'" part is my favorite. The vocals, the music, the use of green as such a stark contrast to the purples, how the camera seems to tilt in line with Naveen's discomfort and fear before righting itself again. Golden.
J. Michael Cherry just like the bard that convinced a horde of ogres that they needed to commit suicide WHILE HE WAS LEVEL 2!! Or when we had a dragonborn bard who seduced a dragon into doing it and giving us a chance at life in his cave and realm (part of the dm story)
@TrolleyXLakers - Club Shay Shay manager At first glance the wallpaper looks like a fancy ornate design, but when his shadow is on it, wherever the shadow lurks the design clearly shows a Skull and Crossbones design.
THELLOYDPROJECT I like Maleficent. But it's hard to put her above a couple other really great ones. Scar, Ursula, the Huns, Shere Khan, Claude Frollo, and of course my personal favorite Cruela Devile.
I don't know why. Maybe it's the way he walks, maybe it's the way he talks, maybe it's the hoard of demons following him around and doing what he says while calling himself a sinner, but I don't trust him.
I dunno, I think we're being a bit hasty in our judgement. I mean yeah they're demons, and yeah he's a sadistic, lying trickster. But thats no reason to assume he's a bad guy.
@@colingznetwork781 - Honestly, I don't think "Cal-art" style is a bad thing. It has nothing to do with the quality of animation, but rather just following current artstyle trends. I mean, this isn't even anything new. Every generation of TV animation has their own art style trends (for example, early 2000's has mostly flat, geometric shapes, sharp angles and thick outlines).
funny thing is, people think he cheated him. but he actually accurately predicted what would happen and gave him what he wanted, albeit a twisted route.
My god, this is one of my favourite Disney characters. He's absolutely evil in the sneakiest of ways. His voice actor sounds like he's having a blast while recording for the character. His evil laugh is both unique and intimidating. His glow in the dark make-up isn't cheesy enough for me to laugh at him like most villains. Freakin top hat, nuff said. The slick animation around him rivals Aris' from the Sinbad cartoon. All the subtlety and secrecy surrounding him. We don't even know his first name or what his reason for being evil is but we don't even care. His songs are both bouncy and intimidating. Which matches his overall demeanour (except from the end).
brogeneral Why is Cruella such a high-ranked villain? Percival MacLeach in Rescuers Down Under was from the same stock and he was far more threatening.
1krani Maybe because she was one of the first villains to actually achieve her goal of becoming queen of the sea and that she is actually somewhat not of evil intention. If you think about it, all of her deals are completely realistic. She didn't tell Ariel to give her her voice but made her a deal to trade for it.
What gets me is that they chanted along in conformity with vodun (voodoo) and other African religions. Someone chants, and others echo, sorta like a call and response..
t.w.s // squib especially considering the fact his shadow turns into a snake which is an animal commonly conceptionalized and correlated to lies and deceit so it makes sense
It’s actually kinda sad that they didn’t see all of the red flags like the lily pad on the last card he shows Naveen which hints at his future as a frog.
I am no expert on Tarot readings (I don't really believe in them) but I decided to look at the numerals on the cards and look into what they mean, and I have a (probably incorrect) interpretation of the underlying message that the animators left. XV (The prince with the two women) the devil, a card associated with temptation, lust and material gain, it is a representation his decadent lifestyle. XVI- The Tower (The tower is in the background) represents disaster and destruction, because of his lifestyle, the prince has lost his inheritance and his fortune after his parents got angry at his behaviour. IX (proposal) The Hermit- whilst the card shows Naveen proposing to Charlotte La Bouff, it actually hides his real desire to be alone and to not be tied to anyone else. 0- (The lily pad) the Fool, this one's pretty straightforward. Naveen is clearly being tricked. However it also represents someone about to undertake a journey. This is only the beginning of his story. X- The wheel of fortune. Lawrence, a man in a lower class to Naveen, is about to receive a sudden change in fortune, this is kind of played out in all of his cards. But the Wheel of fortune can provide bad as well as good luck.
Damn that's so cool. 😮☺ And kinda creepy. But overall interesting of course. ☺ I never thought about looking into what the symbols mean in the card so that's cool that you looked into them more. 👍
Nah be prepared has so much more emotion and oomph to it Terrifying how he has the hyenas walk nazi styler saluting him while he just gets off on the thought of his plan coming to fruition
I like to think that there's one guy at Disney whose sole job is to come up with horrifying deaths for villains. Everyone else wants him to tone it down, but they're all too scared to tell him. _"So, Chad, we've almost finished our animated children's movie about singing frogs. For once we got a villain who is purely evil in his very core. Trading souls with the unholy powers, making deals with the demons, doing all the voodoo and black rituals... No kids stuff, just purely diabolical villain. I love this villain, I love how mature this movie is treating kids. Also, this villain is absolutely hillarious xD
The Good Doctor here definitely best represents chaotic evil from a Disney villain; he's evil for the sake of it and he's in it for himself. Even Clayton wasn't evil "just because." But I think there's another who matches him and in my opinion does him one worse just because he's doing it on a larger scale: Claude Frollo, the Disney epitome of lawful evil.
"You're changing(x2)-- you're changing, alright! I hope you're satisfied." Easily my favorite line. It's very sinister and sadistic. Making someone believe they're getting what they want and you (potentially) ruin their life in the process. That particular part of the scene made Facilier seem incredibly imposing and powerful as well. Top 4 villain songs have to be "Friends on the Other Side", "Hellfire", "Poor Unfortunate Souls", and "Be Prepared".
Rowan Buchanan HELLFIRE! Scared the holy shit out of me as a kid. I loved it. The ending line makes me shake...."God have mercy on her. God have mercy on me.....". It's scary because there are people who actually think like that.
Virgilia Coriolanus It disturbed me more when I got older, lol. I didn't understand the context when I was younger and was transfixed on all the fire flowing around.
blackghost1791 I actually liked the twist in Frozen. I do think it was a bit sloppy, though, and they could have done it better. I would have liked to see subtle hints to him being an ass throughout the movie that kids would overlook but adults could pick up on and be SLIGHTLY questionable of Hans. If they had done that, it would still be a twist, but at least it would have made more sense by those hints earlier in the film. Also the love for Kristoff was kind of annoying because she fell in love with him after a couple of days RIGHT AFTER she fell for Hans, but that didn't bug me as much. I did, however, love Elsa completely, she was the highlight of the film for me, despite all of its problems. I actually wish it focused more on Elsa and Anna than it did on Anna and Kristoff, or maybe on Elsa, but that's also beside the point.
Edward Nygma No, Alameda Slim was a terrible character and so was the entire film. It made me sick (Like, actually sick, not figuratively. Probably cause of all the happy colours that you'd see in a 2 year old's TV show). I thought Claude Frollo was a GREAT villain from Hunchback of Notredame. I'd rank Dr.Facilier and Frollo as being the best, although Dr.Facilier KNEW he was evil and was doing it out of spite, Frollo was doing it because he thought he was doing good and thought it was alright to do the things he did because God was on his side or whatever.
He’s probably one of the smartest Disney villains. That “You just wanna hop form place to place, and for that you need the green” He never especified what he meant by “green” and that “hop form place to place” was well hidden and he made it look as a normal phrase, but he never said it wasn’t literal. He practically never lied. “I hope you’re satisfied” Gave me goosebumps, it’s like he was saying “Heh, You poor arrogant souls”
Elizabeth Guevara yea ill still stick with this though im not a big lion kings person the only song from that was "be prepared" and even that wasnt all the great though "circle of life" is pretty awesome too
Unnamed Visitor his shadow is doing independent things the entire time actually. You can see it do stuff like give him a high five and push his chair up for him
Nothing gets me like the marionettes staring on at 3:24, their little faces alive with victorious mischief. This was what they wanted from the start; a poor soul trapped by his own commitments. They have the same look when Facilier's pendant is smashed.
Steve Fury Yes, he reminds me of the genie, too! It's sort of funny how both of their show-offy, defining songs are about friends, with the word "friend" being used a bit loosely in both cases.
Steve Fury That makes some great fan fic. I mean isn't the theory that disney's alladin is set thousands of years in the future? So what if the punishment for Facilier when the demons take his soul, is that he has to spend an eternity trapped in the lamp, only ever temporarily free when he has to honestly serve the lamp owner, and over the years realises the error of his ways and becomes the friendly version that we see in Alladin

He's also based - design wise - off of Baron Samedi, one of the death Loa (voodoo spirits). He's a bokor which means evil voodoo shaman and the first time I saw this song I knew that I was in love with this man right here XD Disney done him right in the design department lol
what about 'be prepared'?
"But in your future it's the green that I see."
Dr Facilier kept his promise.
You just want to be free, "HOP" from place to place.
EYYYYYY!!
Also on the future card, wasn't he on a lilypad??
Woah, he is!
I only noticed when I looked closely, the animation crew had fun with this. :)
this song is my favorite just because of the immense amount of foreshadowing it has
he also did get the "green" in reference to money
he worked hard to make that restaurant with Tiana and they did get dat sick ka$h
i just realized when facilier said "it's the green that i see." that actually was a double meaning that he was going to transform him into a frog. pretty clever.
Also when he says that "it's the green I see" the prince is lying on a lily pad
so technically he wasnt lying
Hmm yes, the floor here is made of floor
“Hop from place to place” also foreshadows him being a frog
Another fact you didnt notice, he did show him riches in a card but look closely at the card and see what the cash shapes out at 2:10
Is it just me or do usually villains get better songs than the protagonists
nope not just you.
Colin Geiger both are equal Disney songs
Colin Geiger villains are becoming more and more likable and are even on the rise as protagonists. Not just you.
cus anything in the Minor scale is just cooler ;)
I feel like that's true because they need to make an impact because watching a Disney movie you know the villain will lose in some way, so they need a great song to establish how evil they are, or what all they stand for. Weather they're intentionally bad or bad but see themselves good, a good song can make a villains entrance and tell you so much about how they tick. At least in terms of Disney.
There's just some villains you can't hate
Akila True dat
Him, maleficent, and scar
Yups..
DeShawn Walker And FROLLO.
Hades and Yzma
What's amazing is just how easily he reels them in. He knows exactly what to say and even more amazing is that he never lied in this song.
Yeah, I never watched the film but just seeing this out-of-context this is exactly how temptation-exploitation goes down in real life, voodoo masks optional.
Irma Silva Yes, very good choice in character and a very good performance by Keith David
0:34 notice where the hats land. Naveen’s hat lands on the skull and Lawrence’s hat lands on a voodoo doll, showing their roles in Dr. Facilier’s plans. Naveen would eventually be killed and Lawrence will be Facilier’s puppet.

The symbolism in this song is crazy detailed! I also loooove that the voodoo dolls sing "you got what you wanted but lost what you had" at the end, it gives me chills every time
"You do have a soul, don't ya Laurence?"
Best burn ever
Soooooooooo true
Yeah true
3:28 "You got what you wanted but you lost what you had" I guess there is always some type of price to pay when it comes down to evil or dark magic

@@danieloleszek8081 Depends on who you're asking for help. Some spirits might just require you not to harm anyone.

+Rain Peach at that point in the movie, it wasnt pointed out that he WAS the villian. besides, neither mufasa or simba were like that with scar, either
And in those adventures, he gets into danger. Or to be more specific, gets TURNED into a FROG!

+Rain Peach I think its because he offered what Naveen wanted, or thought he wanted

It's a cool detail
Underfell Sans yoo never noticed that before!

No we didn't see that part. We are all blind... idiot
Keith David was perfect for the role and I didn't even think he could sing.
Spawn💀 can sing!?
I that was Eddie Murphy.
Sad part is, Dr. Facilier would have had the Prince's complete support, if he had simply told him "Hey, you let me turn you into a frog for a week, and you will be free to go and turned back into a human, and will never have to worry about funds again cause your doppelganger will have funds for you to pull from whenever you want."
but then he doesn't get to put one over on a dumbass rich brat
Where's the fun in that?
Christopher Orta it’s funny that the stupid rich kid didn’t noticed he was being tricked. That’s the fun of it.
Mad Hyena I should have clarified what I meant. I meant what would be the fun in telling him the truth and not screwing with this guy for a few days.

Easily the most underrated Disney villain, and the most underrated Disney Movie as well.
Personally I think Clayton is more underrated
I don't think so, and maybe that's why you are right ;)
Sorry for late reply but haven't we forgotten about Frollo, from the hunchback of notre dame? Less and less people know about him nowadays and it seems like the movie is slowly sliding into a state of forgotness yet he is most probably in the top 3 of the best Disney villains of all time
He indeed is one of the best Disney villains ever. But he's definitely not as charming and intriguing as Facilier in my opinion!
Frodo at the very least has made appearances in Disney theme parks. Clayton has never appeared once as far as the records I have read showed.

"freedom takes green"
"when I look into your future it's the green I see"

The tarot cards depict Naveen as the Fool. The white flower symbolizes naivety.
Still the best Disney Villain ever.
I mean, come on, he's not cheesy, he's got class, wit, and he's kinda spooky. I like him.
Fluffy Vader THAT I can agree with!
Also his dancing skills doe! It's like he's on ice when he jumps onto the table
Fluffy Vader Judge Frollo?
Fluffy Vader and he's got voodoo! he's got hoodoo! he's got things he ain't even trieeed!!!

My personal favorite villain ever. Facilier just reminds me so much of the devil. His cleverness, the foreshadowing, trickery and swagger. Well done, Disney.
What about the guy from hunchback
Frollo
@@rejecteddan3136 yeah, Frollo is scary and everything, but he's not clever and smooth like Facilier. I'm Christian and in the bible the devil is described as very cunning and would use many tricks and schemes to get what he wanted. Frollo is more like a demon: extremely evil and not trying to hide it.
Dr. Facilier is easily the coolest character in this movie, in my opinion. Another great addition to the Disney villain lineup.
Agreement
this movie really suffered from having way too much going on, Facilier could've saved it though, he's just that great a villain. his song is similar in a way to two of what are probably some of the best disney characters (Genie and Ursula) He has Ursula's manipulative personality and the genie's active mind, as well as a friendly facade that does remind me of genie's as well
definitely one of the best disney villains! even though this movie isn't that great (I mean it's not bad, just not like a Mulan or Little Mermaid) but he's an excellent villain. He was in the Hocus Pocus disney world Halloween show along with alot of other villains and it was really cool.
that's because he's got friends on the other side
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) tbh he's my favorite because he's just so unlike the other villains. Most of them want to take over this or that. Maleficent was just pissy, she wanted to hurt the king. Ursula wanted to rule the whole sea. This bastard could do card tricks and came so close to getting New Orleans under his hand
AND VOODOO
DO YOU KNOW HOW COOL THAT IS
Man I love Keith David. Not only can he act incredibly well but he is also a great singer.
Yeah, same with Jesse L. Martin. I love that they find excuses for him to sing on The Flash, it would be a crime not to.
"You need to marry a lady who's daddy got dough." *Naveen proceeds to marry a woman whos dad is a baker.*

I didn't notice the pattern change until you just mentioned it. That IS pretty clever!
the only problem I have with this movie all of the songs but this
The "You're changin'" part is my favorite. The vocals, the music, the use of green as such a stark contrast to the purples, how the camera seems to tilt in line with Naveen's discomfort and fear before righting itself again. Golden.
Why are the villain songs always so damn catchy?! 😈

Couldn't agree more. Such a memorable villain.
One of my favorite Disney villains. I actually like this guy more than some of the top Disney villains out their like Ursula and Cruella De'vil.
brogeneral
Why is Cruella such a high-ranked villain? Percival MacLeach in Rescuers Down Under was from the same stock and he was far more threatening.
1krani Maybe because she was one of the first villains to actually achieve her goal of becoming queen of the sea and that she is actually somewhat not of evil intention.
If you think about it, all of her deals are completely realistic. She didn't tell Ariel to give her her voice but made her a deal to trade for it.

TachyonKing Wow, amazing how detailed this movie is! It's so underrated

Not demons most Likley some petro loa
The Good Doctor here definitely best represents chaotic evil from a Disney villain; he's evil for the sake of it and he's in it for himself. Even Clayton wasn't evil "just because."
But I think there's another who matches him and in my opinion does him one worse just because he's doing it on a larger scale: Claude Frollo, the Disney epitome of lawful evil.
True so true

Forgot how smooth and elegant Keith David's singing voice is....Way to go, Goliath!
"You're changing(x2)-- you're changing, alright! I hope you're satisfied."
Easily my favorite line.
"I hope you're satisfied" is so fantastically dark
Exactly what I think. Keith David sang that line perfectly.
Rowan Buchanan HELLFIRE! Scared the holy shit out of me as a kid. I loved it. The ending line makes me shake...."God have mercy on her. God have mercy on me.....". It's scary because there are people who actually think like that.

The best Disney villain. No contest.
yes! Him and Alameda Slim (Home on the Range)
i do get an old school villain from him like disney went back to there roots not like that frozen crap
blackghost1791 I actually liked the twist in Frozen.
Frollo begs to differ.

“I hope you’re satisfied” Gave me goosebumps, it’s like he was saying “Heh, You poor arrogant souls”
"Your lifestyle's high but your funds are low
You need to marry a lil' hunny whose daddy got dough"
God damned classic, Disney
rok, her dad is a baker...
"Your in my world now not your world... And I got friends on the other side!" Love it!!! 0:12 best start to a Disney song EVER.
I'm a royal myself on my mothers side! xD
Elizabeth Guevara yea ill still stick with this though im not a big lion kings person the only song from that was "be prepared" and even that wasnt all the great though "circle of life" is pretty awesome too
Hell fire was one of the best Disney song ever
Zachary Martin one not the best :P yea but thats pretty good too
You now are doing what I was doing. Have you guys ever heard of the word hypocrite?
When he opens the box of ‘things I ain’t even tried,’ you can see his shadow jump back.
Unnamed Visitor his shadow is doing independent things the entire time actually. You can see it do stuff like give him a high five and push his chair up for him
Also, apparently Whodoo is a real thing.
Nothing gets me like the marionettes staring on at 3:24, their little faces alive with victorious mischief. This was what they wanted from the start; a poor soul trapped by his own commitments.
They have the same look when Facilier's pendant is smashed.
YESSS
I loved this song so much. He's like the Anti-Genie from Aladdin. Genie sang "Friend Like Me".
Steve Fury +1 on the connection
Steve Fury
"Mr Aladdin Sir! What will your demise be?
Let me take your order, jot it down, you ain't never had a foe like me!"
Steve Fury listen closely. They even make it sound a little bit like the Genie's song in certain parts.
