    Takie and Amy are adorable. They were very Level headed and a pleasure to see the great home they ended up with. I hope now that we are 13 years out from the update that they are doing well and still so happy. Great buyers.

    I am very happy for both couples, but as an American, I am embarrassed.
    She is on the adventure of a lifetime.
    She has an adorable young man [with a job] that clearly loves her. And, the U.K. is a beautiful country. I watch, and love "Escape to the Country." Very fortunate!

      I have owned about 9 homes in America. We buy in a trac then fix it up the move to the next trac development etc etc. they were big with big yards n the homes were boring. I would have loved being someplace with character. It was like holding the sticks up on the street blow n you had another trac home. I would love to move to the UK. 😮

    This American girl should find her house in the US, not in the UK. I think you need to tell your boyfriend to raise your budget to a million, so you can find your dream house. I'm really tired of seeing this kind of attitude, poor Phil you are always dealing with this kind of people.

  • @lysem4392
    @lysem4392 Рік тому +15

    I see from the comments that I'm not the only one who found Alissa fingernails-on-the-blackboard annoying. I'm Canadian, which is close enough to the US to know exactly what it was that she considered suitable, because we have some of these houses too: a huge modern suburban cookie-cutter house without a scintilla of character.
    Except the UK is not the US. Houses are smaller there. What she had in mind would cost way, way more than the budget she and her husband could spend. She came across as such a spoiled princess.
    I'm glad she seems to have realized she won't die from residing in a house smaller than 400 square metres.

    It all depends on where one is buying. Texas and rural America would give her what she requires for her her money. LA, NY, DC would be out of her budget. NJ can also be expensive and she would not get 2 acres of land for that money.

    The closest she's going to get to an American house is to go to a renovation of a large building like a barn or a warehouse, modern minimalist, and out in a semi-rural location.

    Why would you buy a house that is five years of your combined income with payments that are 50% of your monthly income?
    They are going to be house rich and cash poor for the foreseeable future and what happens if one of them becomes unable to work?

  • @gladitsnotme

    The American girl was annoying BUT she did have a point about that new build. Why in 2007 would a developer in the UK build a brand spanking new house in that old 1800s, closed off, tiny rooms style?? It makes no sense. I can understand her anger. The UK architects and developers were basically wasting supplies. Imagine building extra walls when the style everyone is asking for is OPEN floor plans. It's a waste of timber, buyers are just gonna knock the walls down to build equity. Upstairs laundry rooms were standard for new builds in 2004, so why is england still putting washers in the kitchen?? Who keeps tide pods next to their sugar bowl? Who tosses dirty panties in front of the pots and pans cabinet? Ew

    Americans have townhouses, Kirstie. That was really rude. And, I’m sorry, but Phil was really rude as well. I recognize the sarcastic way the British talk to and about Americans. I’ve been married to a Brit for 33 yrs and have spent a lot of time in England , especially London where he’s from. Ik she was difficult, but not more than a lot of British people on the show. She had her moments, but they shouldn’t have been so rude.
