No way you decided to do a reaction to the live action of avatar the last Airbender I didn’t think that was going to be on your hit list cause I figured after you finish the Animated show but whatever is good for you
I'm only on episode 3 but I am so happy with how the show has turned out so far and gladly recognize this as the first ATLA live action. I'm also glad they're actually being a little unique about it as well and not just doing an exact copy of the cartoon.
I actually love it. Kinda sad that Netflix chased off the creators and shit, but they did a pretty good job with this series. They're actually doing their own thing, but still maintaining the world's charm.
The scene with Iroh and Aang was so good I was almost disappointed that Aang escaped solely because I wanted to see more conversation between the two of them!
In the german dub, most of the voice actors of the original came back after all these years to do their roles like Katara, Sokka, Zuko, Azula, Ty Lee, Zhao, Kyoshi, Suki and Jet. So the nostalgia kicks hard, and that's so cool.
The air temple raid scene was well done amazingly well and Zuko is almost exactly like himself in the original so far, which I love. So far it's actually pretty okay. Definitely better than the movie.
@@rufavulpesthere was a live action called The last Airbender and it was so bad, you should watch videos on yt on why it’s bad if you don’t want to watch it
The firebenders didn't even look like they were being enhanced by the comet during that raid, compared to what you'd normally expect from their usual level of power (the ones in the original show were capable of much higher fire power during it). If Sozin didn't say they were in fact under the effect of the comet at the end, I would've honestly assumed it hadn't even taken effect yet lol (to be fair, some fire blasts were strong enough to destroy buildings, I just wonder why anyone actually in frame weren't displaying this level of power...). So no, I wouldn't say this part was "done amazingly well", as this is a pretty glaring problem that I don't understand how they let pass. There's are other considerable problems that I could mention in this first episode (and the second, which I also watched), but to be honest, it's better than the trainwreck that I was preparing myself to see, so I guess that's a plus? Hahaha. Netflix did much worse before, like in shows such as The Witcher, so a lot of internal and external things considered, I guess "ok" is an appropriate enough characterization of this one...
I've already watched the whole first season (NO SPOILERS) and as an OG fan, like literally from day 1 of the premier, my personal rating is like a 6/10. And that, to me is WAY higher than what I was expecting. Without saying anything else, I can't wait to see your reaction!
I am actually really happy with it so far and I'm maybe halfway through. I like that it isn't trying to be beat-for-beat like the original. If you want the original, watch the original. I am appreciating it as an ode to the show which...it very much is. It's a love letter. I have been loving it so far and I've been a die hard fan since it was originally on air.
Personally, I don't mind less of the sexism in Sokka's character because it seemed to me that most of it was regurgitated from his culture. Sokka said some really sexist things, but at the earliest definitive show that a woman can be as strong as a man, he completely lets it go. The sexist stuff before that was mainly to do with gender roles from his tribe (like how women were the ones who sew and men were the ones who fight and hunt). So I feel that it's less telling about his character, and more telling about his culture. Basically, I don't think it was all that important for his character specifically. That and I think he can underestimate Suki just fine without tons of sexist comments to lead into it XP As for sexism in the water tribe in the Netflix version, I think the real test will be if they still have it in the North Pole where they've continued to have the luxury of discrimination unlike the South Pole that was decimated in the war.
i’m such a baby, i was in tears this whole episode from the moment we saw aang and gyatso lol i loved your reaction and comments, can’t wait to see what you think of the rest!
I can definitely see this being its own thing and going through the full intended story. Sokka didn't lose his personality, & Iroh is still very much himself. I won't force this show onto people who don't like it, but this does enough to hold true to the original intent while doing its own thing.
5:10 I don't think the earthbending in that moment was slow, I think it was slow motion. Because after he has all the rocks in the air they fly at the fire benders extremely fast.
the actress who plays Gran Gran, Casey Camp-Horinek is in fact a councilwoman and Hereditary Drumkeeper in the Ponce Nation - so in real life, she is very similar to the character she plays.
I binged it today, and I admit, I really enjoyed it. The first couple episodes were a bit iffy for some of their choices, but after episode 3 or so, it gets really good.
I'm glad you liked this episode. I'm on episode 6 myself and I'm loving it. I definitely have nitpicks here and there but overall I think they did a great job and it's an amazing adaptation in my opinion. Can't wait to see you react to the rest.
Did you happen to see the clip from Netflix of the live action cast meeting the voices of Aang, Sokka, and Zuko? Gordon’s face (Live Action Aang) was priceless when he saw adult Aang
Upon seeing the Fire Nation burn people alive, I realized how much they could get away with compared to the original show and its rating. Contextually, it’s done VERY well. Don’t get me wrong; Aang seeing the skeletons of his people when he, Sokka and Katara arrive at the temple was still incredibly morbid, but this is just as morbid.
i loved it! watched all episodes and while there are things I didn't like, and lots I could nitpick, but it wasn't enough to ruin the show for me. The changes are very interesting, i quite like how some episodes were combined, it felt smooth despite being squeezed into a smaller amount of episodes.
I like the original cause the monk never had a chance to tell Ang that he was on his side. And Ang left because he thought everyone was against him, but here it kinda doesnt make sense why would he leave someone who cares for him so much without saying goodbye or telling him he was leaving. Also top much telling not showing for me.
Zamber girl! I don’t know if you watched it all already but the live action has some minor spoilers of book two, if you haven’t watched it yet, maybe you should before you keep watching the Netflix series :)
I really wanted to like this show more than I did. And it was good. The visuals are great. But the extreme exposition in this made me kinda sad. The emotional impact of this show was a result of me already liking the original show not because of what this one was offering me on its own.
My only problem with it so far (i'm only 1 episode in) is that they're trying to make it seem like Aang can fly...but like, airbenders have earthly attachments so they can't? idk maybe i'm overthinking it
see i didnt even notice that at first cause to me it looked like he was showing off, using a lot of airbending to propell himself and then soften his landing, like you notice how he went from pillar to pillar, going downwards. That flying guy in korra just sort of zoomed with little to no effort. thats just what i thought anyway idk
What's been FASCINATING is that I see people who are fans of the original both loving and hating the same things in the show. Like Aang just going out for a break - some think it ruins his arc and others think it makes it better (I fall in the latter group). Because of this, I think they managed to pull off a decent adaptation. I hope they get more seasons and clean up the script so its more like characters talking to each other and less like the actors reading a script to the audience. I was actually impressed with how well the actors pulled off some of the lines. Also, I'm a Gran Gran fan over here - she sounded like First Nations people I know and the weight she added to the words was palpable to me. I'm sad to see her get so much online bashing.
Personally, I have watched it all and while it is not the same, I feel it captured things well and I enjoyed it. For those who want to relive certain scenes, it may be a disappointment though. It is also a more mature tone. The whole fire blasting yourself into the air is something only very powerful benders can do - of course, during the comet all firebenders are super powerful. Although Sokka is not shown as sexist [well, not much] they made him more macho, and I think if he was both sexist and mucho it would have been too much. When Aang finds the remains of Gyatso, I wish they had Katara calm him down like in the animated version, but it was not a big deal.
I won’t spoil anything, but in a nut, the show did everything I feared it was going to do. Unfortunately, the only way you’ll enjoy it is if you are someone who can watch someone and can completely blot out any notion that the original Last Airbender even exists and view as its own thing assuming that no other form of media exists outside of it.
It isn't perfect but it's good. Also, this is exactly what you are supposed to do for live actions. You should see them as a separate show than the original. Nothing can be as good as the original.
I’m on episode 3 and I am SEVERELY disappointed on all the changes soo far. I understand not wanting it to an exact copy but there have already been too many significant changes that were pivotal moments to the overall story
