If I'm having a bad brain day, it can be hard to focus on the information in these videos so here's the main points: 1. Be open and honest with the people in your life. 2. Use technology to help organize your day. 3. Don't be afraid to say "no." 4. Don't be afraid to ask for help. 5. Access support as soon as possible. (websites, forums, counseling, etc) 6. Try the sensory diet for sensory processing disorder. 7. Organize your home/living space. 8. Exercise. 9. Take time to relax.
My autistic obsession is the universe. I love watching videos on space travel, aliens, how stars work, there is not a single moment in my life where I’m not thinking about space. The fact that we live on a rock around a star which is one of trillions of stars in our universe just amazes me, did you know there are more stars in the universe then there are grains of sand on the earth. This blows my mind
I was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome, bipolar disorder, ADHD & Generalized anxiety disorder at age 7 I am now 26 years old and I have learned so much about myself in twenty years. I not only embrace my autism but I make sure it’s a part of everything I do because without it I wouldn’t be Brooke. I call it my superpower. Your videos inspire me.
Some people suspect that I am on the spectrum but I haven’t been diagnosed. I just wanna learn so that I can be more understanding of people who do struggle with aspergers
I've been binge watching these and others for over about a week now. I've had terrible anxiety since I was a teen (that I recall). Stumbled onto some Autism videos and thought... hmmm A lot of that fits... Showed my wife some and her first reaction was.. hmmm that explains a lot... so now I'm obsessed... This too shall pass ;)
Formally diagnosed with OCD, ADHD, Hoarding Disorder, CPTSD... yet supposed best friends tell me "No! That's not you." I've been informally diagnosed as on the Spectrum. Those supposed "best friends" are no longer actively in my life by my choice. They willfully fail to acknowledge my challenges yet even now continue to seek my assistance in a variety of ways. I'm open to new friendships, yet very cautious these days.
One thing I find that helps is distancing yourself from people who cause you emotional stress, even if they're family. My dad and his step son are huge triggers for my meltdowns so I'm trying to stay away from them as much as possible. Very hard atm with living in their home... but we are trying to change that. They are the type of people that are emotionally abusive and don't understand autism at all and hold my partner and I up to neurotypical standards, which is unfair. They don't have the motivation or want to learn about autism at all. My partner and I are both autistic and being in their home gives us massive amounts of anxiety.
I’m in a pretty good situation now, but I’ve known lots of people who are unyielding and refuse to accommodate people with different needs, and I’ve known people who refuse to respect boundaries. Cutting those people out did wonders for my mental health and I think it’s one of the most important things you can do for yourself
I have Aspergers, C-PTSD, Halphephobia, General Anxiety, Social Anxiety, I also grew up with no friends because I was "weird".... when I was in my early 20's I made a friend but she was super controlling and toxic. At 25 I finally got diagnosed, and I started feeling less lost in my own mind and less crazy lol. She didn't take it well when I started standing up to her and started making new friend's.... She ended up taking over all those friendships while using my Aspergers issues as a weapon to hurt me... She made me into a joke, and she made me seem uncaring, and they fell for it. So I walked away from them all. I have a couple friends now, and I am happy. Whenever I see her surrounded by 8 or more "friends" she seems miserable. She even tried befriending people that look like me... I wonder about that sometimes... But these videos make me feel less alone. I don't know anyone with Aspergers, and I am not good at masking, So I tend to make people uncomfortable. But these Videos really help me understand why I think and feel a certain way. I also learned my meltdowns are due to sensory overload. My life makes sense now
Thank u for all of your content you have helped me more then I could put into words. You helped me get diagnosed and have helped me learn and embrace what makes me different so thank u from the bottom of my heart
I'm 15, ive been reffered to the asd unit at my local camhs (child, adolescent mental health service) but I haven't been tested or anything because theyve focused on the anxiety side first. I have alot of the symptoms, and my mom thinks it could be aspergers and I think so too, I'm not sure what I have but I know I have something, whether it's autism or adhd or something similar.
Having an app like timo still requires you to decide and plan ahead that's what I struggle with. Especially if I need to go grocery shopping or have to go somewhere. Just feeling unable to do or plan something else for this day. You mentioned tidying up. I'm bad at that too during the week so I have a set day twice a month to clean up but while cleaning up I'll be crazy perfectionist. Also taking time out for my self proofed very helpful eventhough people around me always have to remind me.
Hey Dan I am a 21yo Femail with ADHD, ASD and SPD and I suspect OCD. I also live in Australia and am have just recently been diagnosed with ASD and SPD and currently going through testing for insomnia and sleep apnea, your videos are so helpful and I would love to learn more particularly about comorbidity and you really inspire me to be the best me that I can be... thank you
I rarely watch your videos. But felt like I needed to watch this one. Good point, I’ll see if I keep up with my “To Do” list since I’m always ALL OVER the place and can’t seem to focus on one thing. I’ve recently accumulated like 13 Jetskis and only have like one that runs. I also have 9 vehicles, half of them being “projects”; I think I’m starting to develop hoarder tendencies 🤦🏿♂️
Adult diagnosed Aspie here. Love the take time for yourself. That's one thing I have a very hard time doing...also I was curious do you have any must have sensory overload gadgets that you take with you out in public? I always have my ear plugs with me but need something else to help calm my severe anxiety. Thanks for your videos!!
Not diagnosed officially, but I was diagnosed with BPD a few years ago and have a lot of similarities with people with ASD. I also scored pretty high on the AQ test (41/50), and have been watching your videos ever since. I really look forward for your videos on sensory processing disorder, I get overloaded pretty easily with noise and it's been really hard to deal with it. It would be really nice for me to try a different approach on the issue. Thank you very much for your videos.
@Daniel E. They are not. Actually, they have many overlapping symptoms, and an awful lot of women on the spectrum have been misdiagnosed with BPD because ASD manifests differently in men and women.
Hi Dan, hope you are good? Love your videos they have been really helpful. I had my assessment on Wednesday and got my diagnosis for Aspergers confirmed today :)
Do people on the spectrum tend to not take criticism well, even if it's positive? It's SO hard for me to take criticism, no matter how good the person's intentions may be. Are there ways you know of to over come this?
I have had weirdness from people, when telling them I am Autistic Spectrum. If you've met one Autistic Spectrum person, you have met ONE Autistic Spectrum person. Maybe we should only confide with other Autists? Audry 10?
I teach computer programming. It is the first thing I tell a new class. Also that I don't suffer fools gladly, I don't do anything I am told unless there is a good evidence based reason why I should and I expect to learn something new from them despite 40 years in coding. They seem to enjoy my atypical attitude and methods. I say go for it, but be prepared to answer questions.
Got a question for you and other aspies ; are you fysically strong? Like much stronger than people would expect you to be? Both me my son and two others I know are ridiculously strong though we don't go to the gym or something.

I am on the Autism spectrum. This video didn’t just hit close to home, it hit and obliterated home.
Good vid! I'm on the high functioning end of autism/aspergers. I use lists to help me(when I remember to). Thanks and happy birthday again😁

Great video

Yes I am that way. But I also want people to bee 💯 honest so that includes criticism sooo it's not easy lol
Do you think that is usefull to tell people you are an aspi if you haven't be diagnosed yet? (Diagnosed is really complicated and long in France)
I have had weirdness from people, when telling them I am Autistic Spectrum.
