    It's a multi-video! Here we're taste testing the Evil Amarillo IPA we brewed up in a standardization batch, and we're doing the same thing with a boat load of wheat to make a Belgian Wit! It should be a fun learning experience, and I hope that the video gives you an idea as to how I brewed in this style of brewing on my all electric home brew system. Thanks for watching as always!

    Hi Joe , just wanted to take a few minutes to thank you for your Vids. You helped me a lot building my first setup and to understand the basis of home brewing. Home brewing is not very popular in my country so its very difficult to buy from local stores or even have instructions about how to brew. Thanks a lot ; from a french Canadian that is very exited to finally start brewing.

I try to have fun with them and try to learn something new with each batch. I don't know if you have local shops, but my shop, BIY Homebrew Supply, does ship internationally.     Yes I believe your themanator work's quit well when it's 11deg outside your water must be close to freezing. Job well done on your brew day.

      Right! It's seriously cold. So cold it is hard to drink, sometimes. Now summertime brewing is an entirely different story... LOL

      I'm definitely loving the German styles, and am slowly getting my tongue accustomed to the Belgian styles. Something about the esters gives me a headache though... Might just be I like them so much I drink to many of them! LOL

    I just turned 21 and my neighbor brews and got me interested slightly so i came to UA-cam found your channel and now im hooked im saving up money to buy a setup but not sure what to get. I know i wanna do grain just seems more fun doing it that way.

    Drinking beer and brewing at the same time always makes for interesting results. In the end you still have 10 gallons of beer.

    Hey Joe! Glad to see you're still making great videos. Have you had the chance to have some real good Northeast style IPA's? Would love to see you brew one with a huge addition of tropical hops in a whirlpool :)..should try it out, makes an unearthly IPA! I have a 5 gallon batch fermenting atm, pure 2-row, light bittering, 6oz of mosaic/citra whirlpool at 125degrees, smells amazing :)

    For those not very familiar with figuring the abv from the OG and final gravity, might be good to explain how to figure the abv. If somebody new to brewing watches a video, they might not know what you are talking about.

      This is true. I'm actually planning on doing a hydrometer and refractometer video to help answer some of these questions and plan to talk about my personal process with it.

    Fruit Loops, I believe, is what you were going for, not Trix. You can just run coriander seed through your mill. It will work just fine!

    Hey Joey love ur vids ... Like your new system just don't know why you never just bought a grainfather ... Always have great brews with it .... I guess maybe the volume is a little weak but never had an issue

      Thanks Ed! You know, I really did consider the GrainFather, but went this way for the higher power heater. I was looking to move really quickly with the new setup, and I know that he GrainFather (having been made in New Zealand) was originally designed for 240, but all state-side models are 120, so it takes longer. I liked the idea of it, but wanted the higher power model, which isn't yet available here in the states... I'm super happy though to hear you're loving yours! We can order them through my shop, and there has been lots of interest, just no buyers...

    Hey Joe, Love your videos.
    I'm seriously looking into a simple electric brewing system to build so I can brew in my basement during the winter (it's cold and crappy weather to be brewing outside in southern Ontario, Canada). I really like the simplicity of your setup compared to many out there, but the one big question I have is about clean up after the brew day. Your brew time itself looks very relaxing with the help of your pump and Thermonator, but what is your clean up like with the equipment you have and how long (roughly) does it take?
    I would be very interested in watching a video of how you clean your system (pump, plate chiller, hoses, and kettles [and how you clean the heating element and other obstacles]) after a brew day. Even an overview of how you go about it would be greatly appreciated.

      You know, I get asked this one a lot, so I think I am going to figure out how to do a video for it. The trick is filming it, since I am soaking wet and don't really have the correct layout for tripods. But, that being said, I think I am going to make a video on this. Honestly, it's not too bad. Maybe 30 minutes, or a bit longer if I boiled over or messed something up. I try to get through it as fast as possible. The trickiest part is cleaning the Therminator, which is essentially a lot of rinsing and "blowing it out" to get any lodged grain particles out of it. Stay tuned Kevin, I do think this is going to be moved up in my "to do" queue... Cheers!

      Thanks Brian! Actually, I use good ol' tap water... I know, it's a cardinal sin, but my tap water tastes great, doesn't have any chlorine smell at all in it, and I have never had a problem with residual flavors of off flavors from chlorine or chloramines.... So, there's my secret. :-)

    Great video! Do you increase your hops to compensate for using the bags? I just got a plate chiller and after 2 brews it clogged up both times, so I'm thinking bags will be the answer?

      I haven't, but I did use bags for quite a long time and it did help with keeping them out of the chiller. That's the trickiest part with plate chillers, keeping things out of them...

    Hey Joe! Have you noticed any difference with the hops? since you boiled them in higher gravity wort.

      You know, not really. I tried to maximize boil volume, and being a higher hopped beer I didn't notice. Now if I did the same with a high gravity batch... That would probably be an entirely different story...

    hey bud you have changed my Brewing light I have changed my whole system to be like yours can you tell me how you calculate topping up to make 10 gallons it would be really appreciated

      Sure thing! What I do is to double everything except the water volume, but I do try to push the water volume to maximize the boil in the kettle safely. Then once everything is cooled and transferred into the fermenter(s), I wind up topping up to the 10 gallon mark, and it has actually came in on specs just about every time!

      I have, ages back. I typically don't use any finings or filters for anything I do, as it can affect flavor. Only when absolutely necessary.

    Might one be thinning out the body of the beer by adding so much water?

      Not for this style of brewing, the "standardization" method. I'm actually brewing a double-concentrated batch, and then thinning it to the standard gravity in the fermenter.

      And in taste testing both, I didn't feel like I lost any body with the method. Now if I did an oatmeal stout, or something hearty like that, it might be a different case, but I can't imagine it would be too different!

      No I am not there is indian and chinese coriander. The indian variety is supposed to be better for beer making. Cardamom is a torally different thing and the actual seeds are almost microscopic and black with no simularity to coriander. Don't Assume as Benny Hill said.
