Great information, I have broke my brain on the no oil on the passenger side myself when I was teen. An old timer in the neighborhood showed me magic trick of taking an old distributor and using that as a primer.
Building a 496 Howard’s solid roller having issues oiling also with my ProForm ! Same boat on what gear to run even after talking with Howard’s gonna sacrifice a distributor again after loaning ! 🤪keep up the great content yah got my kinda character Happy New Year ! 🇺🇸
Big block Chevy always seem to take forever to pump up all rockers. Always have to turn crank a few times while spinning it up. Good idea with distributor. Love your content.
I run composite gear in my big block, they last longer then bronze but they do wear out. I check mine about every 25 passes. Its been a while since i bought one, damn they got expensive.
Makes sense: higher spring pressures on a roller might see some irregular loading moments produced at the drive gear... and the best oil isn't enough protection. How many degrees per revolution are unsatisfactory I can only guess. I wonder if spintron testing can prove the limits of steel vs iron? What takes abuse and what doesn't can get tricky regarding materials. It was maybe 20 years ago a jackup was built with high tensile steel jacking gears, and with maybe two years of service... they started beaking teeth as if there was 30 years of service on them - they went back to the known performance of nodular iron, proving the strongest material isn't always the best for a given application. Toughness has a bit of yield/plasticity .

pretty confusing........ Just buy a composite, if you are building a hp engine, spend the money, chances are you spent and threw some money away anyway!!

Thank you sir. I have primmed quite a few SBC and never knew that. I always use an old distributor we stripped down with a speed handle.

good video happy new year thanks
Good info,keep the videos coming
Cast Iron is a sacrificial material similar to bronze. Composite is a great choice if the budget allows.

I'm using a bronze gear on my big block. How many miles do a composite gear usually last? I change my bronze gear every year.
I use a Proform primer, it works perfect.
@@thereluctantgearhead4544 Mine always has, except for this one.

NICE!!!
Thanks for the info

All I've ever used for priming oil is a chopped distributor..
same
did your sniper throttle bodys ship? mine said they did

Bronze just keep eye on it check it every year run synthetic oil i seen them last 10 years in marine applications
