- John Williams plays Pavane #3 by Luis Milan, on solo classical guitar.
From a 1975 TV series about Spanish guitar music with Williams. This episode also featured Paco Pena.
The old days, when you really wanted to see the right hand technique or left hand fingering, and the camera showed ... an “artistic” picture of JW’s nose.
This was before UA-cam and the only way to learn from someone’s technique was to go to a (rare) concert armed with binoculars... or these (very rare) programs.
I’ve calmed down these days but I remember thinking “Give me 5 minutes alone with that director and cameraman” :)
I just started to learn this piece and it is all because of this video. Thank you for putiing this up.
The way he subtley changes the tone and dynamics for certain phrases is stunning.
People go on about people like Mark Knopfler and Pete Townshend being guitar heros but these classical guitar players are on a different level and Williams is the most complete of the lot: probably greatest technically of all time.
The monster of Baroque'n'Roll, the God of the Guitar Himself.
Thanks for the post.
renaissance n' roll here lol
i like how paco pena aproved the play at the end,is cool.
this video is awesome! thanks so much
El Maestro :)
Terrific voicing!
Absolutely beautiful.
Great upload
great tutorial...nice playing from this guy...i a fun piece..just learned it from watching this clip only takes about 10 minutes...worth learning people-give it a shot!
His hair is cool! So 70s...
Also, he sounds like John Pilger when he talks. Same accent?
wow... very good interpretation...
Does anybody know the name of the show? or where it can be seen? Please
Ah a proper guitar.
That guitar sounds so good!! I wish i had a better guitar, mine is so silent even when i play apoyando
It’s a Fleta one of the greatest builders ever. I wish he still played it. I don’t like the sound of the Smallmans he plays now as much.
@@mattbod It seems like the era of big bodied classical guitar is gone forever. It is very sad. Some people like them better, like me, but they just stopped making them.
love his glasses and Paco Pena waiting in the wings...why is he sight reading?? no idea..
He is an ace sightreader and has gigantic repertoire even back then ,cant memorize it all ,this wouldn't be a standard concert piece either. He may not even have played it since
written for vihuela
not lute...
damn
is there an adaption of the first pavana by Milan in 2/4 ?
жаль, что не всегда видно как он играет
@classicalmannick101 Good question.
why on earth did he leave fleta for smallman...
Why did he leave Cynthia for Yoko?
Que bien que Toca la Guitarra Isaac Newton
What? Is he sight-reading this ? Looks/sounds like it.
i thik this the second pavan
Third.
ジョンに憧れメガネまで真似しました。懐かしいo(^▽^)o今 どうして居るのかな?
Finnish TV!
He looks really different compared to the JW now.
Well he is 80 odd now lol
no... this is what YOUR PROFESSOR believe to be incorrect...
you can also do a time travel to know the RIGHT form to play this (even with hundreds of lutenists playing this in various diferent ways...)
hahahaha!!!! popular music not folk i guess thats the diference!!!
Parece mentira que ese sea el alumno más destacado de Andrés Segovia tiene un sonido horrible
Ah, he played in classical guitar style, which is completely inapropriate, it sounds just too hard for my ears. Terrible.
John is playing too fast, I know he's very good and its not an easy piece to play. This is a pavanne so its a slow dance!
@@theneutralplatform4834 You're right.
