The old days, when you really wanted to see the right hand technique or left hand fingering, and the camera showed ... an “artistic” picture of JW’s nose.
This was before UA-cam and the only way to learn from someone’s technique was to go to a (rare) concert armed with binoculars... or these (very rare) programs.
I’ve calmed down these days but I remember thinking “Give me 5 minutes alone with that director and cameraman” :)

The way he subtley changes the tone and dynamics for certain phrases is stunning.

People go on about people like Mark Knopfler and Pete Townshend being guitar heros but these classical guitar players are on a different level and Williams is the most complete of the lot: probably greatest technically of all time.

It’s a Fleta one of the greatest builders ever. I wish he still played it. I don’t like the sound of the Smallmans he plays now as much.

@@mattbod It seems like the era of big bodied classical guitar is gone forever. It is very sad. Some people like them better, like me, but they just stopped making them.

He is an ace sightreader and has gigantic repertoire even back then ,cant memorize it all ,this wouldn't be a standard concert piece either. He may not even have played it since

you can also do a time travel to know the RIGHT form to play this (even with hundreds of lutenists playing this in various diferent ways...)

Ah, he played in classical guitar style, which is completely inapropriate, it sounds just too hard for my ears. Terrible.

John is playing too fast, I know he's very good and its not an easy piece to play. This is a pavanne so its a slow dance!
