Watch the official video and see the dance you’ll also see Tupac dancing on stage as well; he was a dancer with digital underground before his solo career kicked off! RIP Shock G and Tupac!
Tupac is also seen with Digital Underground in the movie Nothing But Trouble. Great 90s flick. Chevy Chase, Dan Aykroyd, Demi Moore, Taylor Negron and many many more.
The Humpty Dance is "let the music possess you and flail around doing anything without caring what you look like". It was the direct opposite of the highly sychronized band and audience-participation dances of the 80's, such as shown in Prince and Morris Day music video's of the time. Although they were kind of parodying the movement in the Purple Rain movie as well.
So glad to see you enjoy this. Alternative rap group from Oakland, led by Shock G. Their rap and music was innovative, fun and funky. Fun fact....launched the career of the one and only, Tupac. Tupac later joined up with Digital Underground for his hit "I Get Around ". Check out "DO WAT YOU LIKE" and "Same Song". Good work guys👏👏👏👏
The Way We Swing is the BEST Digital Underground do not over look this song if I remember correctly full version is like 6 minutes so it did not get heavy radio airplay at least not in Houston.
Damn. This song takes me back to 9th grade in ‘89….we were all doing The Humpty Dance!!! I can even rap the whole song 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣….RIP Humpty Hump/Shock G 😑
This song was off the chain back in ‘89. It was everywhere. They were my favorite rap group for about three years. This was pre-2Pac. It was HUGE! Shock G had several alias: Humpty Hump, The Piano Man, MC Blowfish.
This dance included everyone! Even those who couldn't dance now could! Love it!! 💃🕺❤ Need to check out live version with Tupac dancing in back ground! Directions are right there in the song!
This is one of those old school hip hop songs that is just infectious! I was not a big hip hop kid, but I was obsessed with this video. It was catchy, funny, and you could tell they were HAVING FUN, which makes you want to sing along and dance, no matter what music you were into! Love the Humpty Dance!
Asia and BJ - you're in luck - thanks to the magic that is UA-cam, you too can learn how to do the Humpty Dance. There's a dance tutorial video called *"How to Do the Humpty Dance | Hip-Hop Dancing"* on the *HowCast* channel. That sounds like something you DEFINITELY should film yourselves doing for your vlog channel. 🙂
The Humpty Dance is whatever you want it to be! When this was played, the whole floor was packed and everyone would do what they felt like doing. So glad that SOMEONE had the gut to react to this. Joy and Humptiness forever.
This song takes me back to 17-18 years old and hitting the dance clubs with my friends. This, "The Percolator", and "Cotton-Eye Joe" had everyone one the floor. God, I feel old lmao
Every time I hear "stop" I have to reply "what you're doing, "cause I'm about to ruin..." Just can't help it. Check out the original video some time. If you enjoyed the song, you'll enjoy it even more.
Asia & BJ thank you for all the work you put into your channel, two late 80s and early 90 raps I’d highly recommend are “We’re All in the Same Gang” by .W.A., King Tee, Ice-T, MC Hammer, Tone-Loc, etc. AND “Self Destruction” by BDP, Stetsasonic, Kool Moe Dee, MC Lyte, Doug Fresh, Just-Ice, Heavy D, Chuck D
Just over here doing the Humpty!!!! Yes! Asia, I had a whole crew that was doing the Humpty. My kids clowned on me the first time they saw us do it. No way I could pull it off now.
I like the song about waiting for the train..."I hope it don't take too long waiting on a train that can take me home so I'll sing another funky song til another one comes along..."
Wife here..This had EVERYBODY groovin back in the day!!!..WOW..Haven't heard this in a minute!!!.. "I hope he's lying" ..he said "Have it your Way"...U2 are on FIRE today.!! .As Always!!!...Amazing Reaction.!!!.Had me ROLLING U2..!!
Was in college when this came out, every party pumped this song out and everyone rapping every lyric...no cell phones, no social media...we all just having fun to good music
I was in the navy, assigned to the USS KittyHawk,it was in the Philla Naval Shipyards for a refit. Those were GOOD times !!! LOL.Music was so GOOD back then and the dances too. LOL.
Man....I haven't heard that song in probably 20 years and the lyrics instantly came right back. Now I'm sitting here listening grooving along with y'all! Glad y'all did this one! Brought back some great memories!
Throw enough liquor down my throat and I will perform this entire song. I have been asked to do it at birthday parties, Superbowl parties, baby showers, my wedding (my husband demanded that I do it), and a funeral (by request again!) and it's a great song!
There’s a video. It has the dance. It’s like bringing one arm back behind, taking your shoulder with it and twisting your back with it. Then switch sides, repeat.
This song has sampled George Clinton/P-Funk "Let's play house". Digital Underground were among the first rap bands to pay tribute to one of the most sampled artist/group with an album named "Sons of the P".
I've got to listen to the Humpty Hump at least once every two or three weeks. You all should react to the Geto Boys "Damn it feels good to be a Gangsta"
Asia, just adore you and your reactions. 😜 Now, I have "White Guy Dance Disease", I can't dance. But, then this is playing I shake my money maker. I'm so smooth, you can call me White Chocolate. 😜
The video shows it more. The side to side cultures. I've been to these parties like I said much different from the metal/rock scene but we were friends, and enjoyed all of it. Seen it all the underground from Thrash to Punk Headbangers and your black and Hispanic friends played this stuff, two worlds that occasionally bumped into each other in amazement, I'm we shock them to. We still talk once in a bit. But those were the 80"s and early 90"s. Whole different world back then.
There was a commercial a couple of years ago where the actual Humpty Dumpty was in the hospital after falling. He asked one of the nurses "I hear there's a song using my name. Maybe I should take legal action. Do you know it?" The nurse replies "EVERYBODY knows that song!" The commercial ends with the song coming on over the PA & everyone in the hospital starting to dance. GREAT commercial...lol
Ok, I was like 13 when this came out. I was into Public Enemy and NWA, 2 Live Crew (lol). But this was the first "fun time" rap group that I can remember. Although, they were dirty. This is also the group that put Tupac on the scene. RIP. Shock G, the lead (Humpty). 2 years gone now.
This was my jam back in the 90's growing up in my teens. Use to watch Much Music (Canada's version of MTV) after school all afternoon and evening hoping they would play this music video.
This is the rap music that brought us all together as kid's. This is the shit we grew up with. No one gave a Fuck about anything except for dancing and having a good time. I used to sing this at karaoke up until about 4 years ago, stopped goin. But everytime I did. Guess what, it brought everyone together. One of my favorite song's.
This is just fun Digital Underground. They are actually about Islam and Equal rights. Check out their track "Heartbeat Props" This group is also were 2Pac got his start. You can see him in the video "All around the World Same song" By Digital Underground it's from the movie sound track "Nothing but trouble"
I believe the humpty dance is one of the moves featured on 'Evolution of Dance' from about 10yrz ago...you'll know it the right video when the dorky white guy who looks like a Napoleon Dynamite double is center stage...
@@AsiaandBJ I subscribe and listen to a list of reaction channels and between yours and one other you are tied for first place. I always look forward to what you do next.
Man this song is my jam back in the days when digital underground came out with this they even had there own dance move to this song and people here in NYC were doin it every time this song was being played ...... way back when hip-hop was just making party dance music like lost Boyz , black sheep , Pharcyde , fugees , brand Nubians , digable planets , Pete rock and cl smooth , das efx , Pharoahe monch , naughty by Nature just to name a few ......i would write down how to do the humpty dance but i think it's better to just watch the actual vid of it to get the visuals of it there's a vid on UA-cam that shows how the humpty dance is done
Reminds me of a good times in 1990's... I was in grade 10 I started listening to digital underground music. Check out Da La Soul 3 ft and rising is a great album.
Man.. this brings back memories. You should watch the video.. 2pac was a dancer for the Underground back in the day and he is dancing the Humpty-hump in the video!
Watch the official video and see the dance you’ll also see Tupac dancing on stage as well; he was a dancer with digital underground before his solo career kicked off! RIP Shock G and Tupac!
It’s one of the most confident videos ever made.

Well most NWA and those squirrels from Florida.
Well put.
You should review the actual video - it’s fantastic 😃👍

That bass line is mesmerizing!! Love it. This is just fun music.
Memory Train just ran me over. I'm more of a Dowhatchalike fan, but a sound laid down by the Underground is good :)
You NEED to PLEASE do the official video! It will give u a whole different appreciation!
It’s a shame to experience this without the video. Humpy’s appearance, and the dance, are half the fun! The lyrics are great though.
