    Crafty bastard, His skill above all is the reason hes renowned as the world's best centre over the last decade
    That hat-trick in 2000 against France in Paris, 6 weeks after the same French team outclassed NZ who's centres could do nothing in the World Cup semi-final, pretty much showed O'Driscoll's superiority over the rest
    His stunning try in 2001 from the half way line for the Lions against the best team of the professional era..the watertight Australia defense, confirmed his greatness

    Undisputed. A great player of the Modern era! I don't know why people have to be petty and try the wind up. Anyway it wouldnt work on me cos everytime people start saying "hes finished" or "not as good as he used to be" BOD comes back with a spark of real invention or class! Has to go down as one of the all time greats but being from the Northern Hemisphere wont help his case. Anyway cheers to you brian for helping me get into the great game that is rugby.

    He's a titan....I always support Ireland if England aren't playing (like all the other England fans I know). O'Driscoll is the greatest sportsman in the world.... Lions and Ireland.

    One of only 8 centres in the World Top 30 for most tries in Rugby union tests. He's also the only Irishman on the list. Combined with his kicking, defensive and off-loading abilities I would say he is undisputedly the best Irish player to date with stats and results to prove the point.

    O'Driscoll has earnt the tag as greatest centre of the past decade.. his genius the reason.
    No disrespect to Ireland.. but put O'Driscoll in a team with a monster pack (SA, or NZ) that supplies plenty ball to the backs... its frightening to think of the increase in damage O'Driscoll would do
    I think around 2001 (before he bulked up) was when he was untouchable. With the Lions, the amount of times he ripped open world champions Australia (best team of the professional era) was stunning

    Brian O'Driscoll - Rugby World player of the decade (2000-2009)
    Theres before O'Driscoll, and theres after O'Drisoll
    He could rip open a tin can with a drop of the shoulder. He could dodge his way through an F1 starting grid. He tore the Frogs a brand new "A" hole with a hat trick in Paris, 6 weeks after the same French team outclassed NZ backs in 1999 WC semi
    Former England centre Stuart Barnes quote on O'Driscoll..
    .."They call him God, well i reckon hes a better player than that"

    & lets not forget NZ's clean sweep of the north in which there line was never crossed, except by that Aus/SA allstar Barbarian team that beat our up & coming players. All this when we were struggeling to find form!. If NZ hit full form in 2011, then putting 30 or 40 points on Ireland wont b that much or an ask. The powers in the rugby world will always lean towards the North, 1 because they are biased & 2 they have 2 keep the morale up in the north. N teams r not considored a threat 2 us.

  • @taweraster
    @taweraster 14 років тому

    @like2surf True, but we'd already put 10 points on you in the first 10 minutes so we were always going to win, but you're right, once Heaslip was gone and you were down to 7 men in the Scrum the result was always going to be a huge win, nice fightback in the second half though.

    just to clear something up, getting over the uncalled for personal insults, I never stated that Ireland have a better track record tha NZ, I'm under no illusions that they're the best side. I simply stated that all things considered we're not a bad side and merit respect. On the evidence from many comments I've read you don't seem to have much. Confronting experience with players, it's generally known that the rugby culture in NZ is way ahead. That's not a small advantage

    @hugobear1 Not really a spear tackle, BOD made the tackle worse than it was, he was laying all over the ball with his hands in the ruck, his head was almost on the ground before they touched him. So of course when they tackled him around the legs he got lifted up in the air, they even turned him to try land him on his back, instead of falling properly, O'driscoll was trying for the penalty and ended up hurting himself. O'driscoll was the cheat, no action taken against all blacks for a reason

  • @johnnytanini

    France is the only decent thing you've got going up there.. and we spanked them recently playing the type of rugby that NH cannot replicate. You cannot argue this.
    SA suffered recently in a lackluster loss to the potato farmers, but they are not the team some think they are - lack of ability to adapt to opposition, hence no longer no. 1 ranking.

  • @CREvoTheGreat

    Im afraid that aint gonna happen. NZ ison top of the ladder right now, & we're getting back a bunch of our os players for 2011, eg Carl Hayman best prop in the world, & we're gonna lift the level way above anyone else, even the Aussies & S Africa, the only possible threats. SA will burn out & get 3rd, the Aussies under Deans r shaping up to b runners up. NZ will have to much talent & depth for anyone. Ireland lose ODriscol 2 injury, then there goes any chance 4 the WC. NZ could field 2 teams.

  • @CREvoTheGreat
    @CREvoTheGreat 14 років тому

    How can u say the NZ tour was terrible, the only team to cross there line were the barbarians, & they were basically all from the south, plus they had a clean sweep of all of u. The Aussies have a better chance than any of u, & so do the SA"s. The AB"s still ended up at no1 inthe irb rankings, the Aussies 3rd, & guess who's 2nd?. Going by history & the current standings, its not gonna b a team from the nort that takes the WC home, so my guarantee is still solid. Wales? r u kidding.

  • @CREvoTheGreat
    @CREvoTheGreat 14 років тому

    Mcaw & Carter are the best forward & back in the world, they're only about half way through their careers. Mcaw will end up being named as the best player ever, he's already won best player twice (a record), & hes got a long way to go b4 retirement, injury permitting. O'Driscol has never beaten the AB's, nor have the Irish.

  • @rossticlestheemokid
    @rossticlestheemokid 15 років тому

    O Driscolls try against Munster in their most recent encounter, its not in this video because its so recent but it should be up somewhere. He has two men to beat, and those two men were Jean De Villiers, world champion, and Keith Earls, Brians replacement in Lions tour. So that says enough. Beats top southern and northern hemisphere players in two steps, pure class.

    @IIiAJiII that's the maddest thing I've heard - I've done 2 World Cups and ALL my fellow English fans have Ireland as their second team (and always have). I go there on holiday a lot - love the place, friendly as you like. Dublin is a riot and 95% of Irish rugby fans are the best sporting fans in teh world (take a note Wales!). I've played rugby in Ireland where they are enormously hospitable and generally pretty clean players (take a note NZ and SA!!!). Footbal may be different I hate football.

  • @BroomeBlocker4

    @thefightingmongoose4 I am an Aussie, but would never call the All Blacks cheaters. They have been cheated a few times, Northern Hemisphere teams take the cake when it comes to cheating. England with Truck and Trailer/Martin Johnson(dirtiest player ever), France for like everything they do. Ireland just whinge a lot. South Africa was the dirtiest of the southern hemisphere teams but they have cleaned their play up a lot. Australia and New Zealand have always been fair teams

  • @johnnyHM17

    @stewsterni when the oxford dictionary starts spelling MATE,m8 then you can tell me it's spelt m8,but it clearly isn't, and your swearing and having ago,like i have said its my opinion,and you cant compare captaining ireland to captaining the all blacks,as the all blacks showed this year they are a class above everyone,how many points did they put past ireland?didn't see much of BOD's greatness in that game.i've said it before SBW is new to union,and why would i say that england are world class?

  • @johnnyHM17
    @johnnyHM17 14 років тому

    @stewsterni your on about spelling but you just spelt MATE 'm8', and if were being petty 'fuck sake carter better centre than SBW' isn't grammatically correct and it should be 'when i SAW your spelling' not 'seen your spelling'. Just because he played for the lions before SBW played u 18's doesn't make him better, BOD is older, cant help the year he was born in MATE. and how does it make me sound like a glory hunter, it's just my opinion.

  • @johnnyHM17
    @johnnyHM17 14 років тому

    @stewsterni hahaha how? everything in my comment is true, sorry your clearly a rugby expert.
    Sonny Bill is an athelete, an has proven in france this season that he is a world class centre, if had been playing union from age grade he would be in the all blacks squad now, tbh i think your the one who is ill informed about rugby so you've resorted to posted comments with no value at all the the debate, i mean what is 'are you like 12 by anychance?' i cringed for you when i read that

  • @johnnyHM17
    @johnnyHM17 14 років тому

    @stwdsa sonny bill is so much better than 'BOD', and he has no international experiance because he only moved from league to union two years ago, and has played all his union rugby in france, now he's in NZ it wont be long until he gets an all balck call up, and shagging an australian super model in atoilet and getting caught pissing down an alley on a night out is hardly 'off-field issues' just makes him even more of a lad tbh.

  • @stwdsa
    @stwdsa 14 років тому

    @TheMorsey007 Sonny bill williams? you would rather someone with no international experience than someone with over 100 international caps? plus SBW has had a number of off-field issues while o'driscoil is leader on and off the field. it would be too close to call between o'driscoill and Mortlock in their primes. I agree Fourie is a tremendous player but again o driscoill is not just a great player but a great leader.

  • @Ali74
    @Ali74 14 років тому

    @taweraster Worlds #1 back O'Driscoll needs to play for a top national team. The thing i hate in Rugby (huge flaw) is the most talented players (backs) are completely dependent on forwards (less talented players consisting of 3 fatties, 2 lurchs, 3 inbetween) to provide ball. If forwards get dominated, backs get no service and can do nothing
    Can you imagine in football.. Pele, Maradona, Ronaldo, Messi, Zidane..playing in the same team.. but getting no ball due to their defence? Thats Rugby

  • @like2surf
    @like2surf 14 років тому

    O'Driscoll is the greatest outside centre of the modern Era, it's been confirmed on nearly every dream test team on all rugby sites, papers north and south. It was even mentioned on the ALL Blacks site last week. He even scored a try last week when we were down to 14 men. Sadly though age seems to be catching up with him and he doesn't have the pace he once had.
    In his prime though guys like Fourie and Smith aren't even in the same league, the only player that was close to him was Umaga.

  • @taweraster
    @taweraster 14 років тому

    @like2surf He wasn't voted player of the decade, that was some random British Journo's opinion, also, scoring tries doesn't amount to how good a player is, he's been playing for the last decade so of course he's going to have scored alot.
    P.S. Conrad Smith is the best centre in World Rugby, Smith, Stanley, Jane, Dagg and Carter all tore Ireland to shreds in there 66 - 28 victory over Ireland.

  • @jkino78
    @jkino78 14 років тому

    it seems you don't read the comments you're replying to. Times are changing is referring to Irelands improvement in Rugby. The AB's while ranked #1 are not the only side to beat. Don't you think the last 10yrs have been different for Irish Rugby? We've beaten England more times this decade than ever, won numerous triple crowns and the first G.Slam worth talking about. The first was post WWII so England and France were a little worse for wear.

  • @jkino78
    @jkino78 14 років тому

    I made nopredictions, I pointed out a fact, times are changing we are improving. The reason you guys get bagged is because of your arrogance, don't tryand turn it around like you're just defending yourselves. Look at any video praising a NH player, go through the comments, there is always a NZer ready with a Wales are shit, Ireland are shit and England are shit comment. Find me a comment where I insulted any Kiwi player

  • @jkino78
    @jkino78 14 років тому

    for all the Kiwi's who keep knocking Irish Rugby, I confused as to why you feel the need, you should know that the goal every year is to beat the English and the French in the 6nations. The test matches are often referred to as "friendlies". The times are changing though so you may want to get the rest of your bragging done while you can. Good luck for 2011, it's all ye'r missing really

  • @Ali74
    @Ali74 14 років тому

    IRB "award" is mocked, by among others, one of the much ridiculed judges who stated he'd have given O'Driscoll the award..but hadnt, referring to the flawed voting system
    The "award" was an embarrasment for IRB..killing its credibiity
    O'Driscoll as the Player of the decade, is so far ahead of anyone in World Rugby, he for many is the sport (reason i got interested in it when he destroyed France in 2000, after NZ couldn't). The only player in Rugby with genius label, its due to his smarts

  • @like2surf
    @like2surf 15 років тому

    WOW you beat a French team, have you forgotten when England thrashed France in the Six Nations this year? A big win over France means nothing, if there was a replay between France and New Zealand next week I still couldn't call the result because nobody knows what type of French team will turn up. This win just proves that the French are as flaky as ever. By the way, England looked class against the French as well now look where they are.

  • @like2surf
    @like2surf 15 років тому

    Nope, O'Driscoll always gets the better of his opposite number no matter the Hemisphere. In the past the Arrogant SH press would always harp on about Umaga or Mortlock having an off day or some bull like that but I'm glad to see these days he's recognised as the best Centre of the Pro era in both Hemispheres. In fairness to AUS and SA they've always admitted it but it took NZ a while to come round. I even heard Taine Randell mention he is the best of his Generation.

  • @meatformoney
    @meatformoney 15 років тому

    Yeah about 5% of this footage is him gliding through some ordinary Aus/SA/Arg. defense. It happens occasionally. Once past Nonu.
    Like I said, good display of weak NH defense - The man is always shown to be average when up against the AB's, SA, or Aus because the defense is a notch above.. generally speaking.
    Watching this video with all the lily-white poofs fall over as he runs by makes me want to take a shower and clean off all that weakness.

  • @Ali74
    @Ali74 15 років тому

    I have no idea who umanga is, apart from he played for NZ in 1999 WC semi-final when they got massacred as the French backs outclassed the NZ backs with their superior flair and ran riot.
    However there wasn't anything those same French backs could do a few weeks later against O'Driscoll when he scored a hat-trick in Paris. NZ simply didnt have an O'Driscoll in their team, his smarts, creativity or intelligence.
    From that day in 2000, O'Driscoll became renowned as the worlds best centre

  • @Ali74
    @Ali74 15 років тому

    Since his hat trick in 2000 in Paris (Irelands 1st win in France since 1972) O'Driscoll has single-handedly transformed team
    Triple crown 2004, 2006, 2007, 2009 (none since 1985)
    Six nations championship 2009 (none since 1985)
    Grand slam 2009 (none since 1948)
    Beat South Africa 2004 (1st since 1965)
    Beat Australia 2002 (1st since 1979)
    Ex England Captain & centre Will Carling ranks him 10th greatest player of all time.."Ireland are half the side without him"
    When genius retires???

    From last post.
    As i said im just the same. very passionate about my rugger and my team. This argument is really quite silly. If you want to talk up Tana i suggest u got to a vid about him an Talk about how much you think hes the best.
    Personally i think u come to this vid to cause a stirr, u insult and do your very best to drag people into an argument.
    This is a strange way to act. Its very strange indeed. Infact its kind of pitiful. I will not play anymore part in ur silliness. Take care

  • @DAGATHire

    how about u try to keep up an comment on my last post not the one before which you have already commented on. are you a bit slow or what...
    Look up any world 15 list mate. Come back to me if u find one where tana is there and BOD is not. U have the great google at ur finger tips. and yet you will not find that list.
    Now as i have stated before. I have nothing against Tana, he was great, a superb player. But O'Driscoll is the more complete rugby player. there is nothing he dont do.

  • @DAGATHire
    @DAGATHire 15 років тому

    @truekiwijoker
    Look mate, its quite simple really. Umaga was a fine player. A great player for both country an club. However Brian O'driscoll is goin down in history as quite simply the most complete PLAYER an not just center perhaps ever 2 play d game.
    This stuff you said below. THAT'S O'DRISCOLL plain an simple
    "
    Better ball handling and offloading skills
    Better kicking game
    Better stepper
    Quicker runner
    Better defender"
    Have you been under a rock for the past 10 years or what. Jus go away

  • @DAGATHire
    @DAGATHire 15 років тому

    I can only assume that the Kiwi arguing below that Umaga was or is a better center the drico is only doing it to piss you guys off. Best thing you can do is mark all his posts as spam and ignore him. Anyway, Umaga was a winger by trade untill he lost some of his pace an was moved in to center. He was a fine player, but not at Dricos level. I would say Sterling Mortlock is the only other world center that could hope to match Brian O'Driscoll.

  • @like2surf
    @like2surf 15 років тому

    Ya, two PROFESSIONAL rugby players picking a guy up and driving his head into the ground when the ball was already WELL cleared from the ruck is accidental, watch the video mate you're deluding yourself. And your own KiWI pundits admitted he was probably the Best centre in World Rugby LOL. Plus the fact we can all see it for ourselves, Umaga comes off Second best each time they play one another. In fact in 2006 for Ireland's 2 match tour of NZ and Aus, Umaga was put on the Bench for second test.

  • @Drweavil
    @Drweavil 15 років тому

    While I do think you are speaking from upir own conviction kiwijoker, I also think that that incident cast a very long shadow on both Mealamu and Umaga. A shadow they will never really escape because regardless of how good they really are or were, their actions in that reckless moment were appalling.
    You can use any words you like to describe it but it won't change what happened. Me... I believe the AB's lost something very special that day: The rugby worlds respect.

  • @laney123

    Oh right and you're not from the southern hemisphere yourself, who the hell woul even think of naming FOURIE in the TOP 10 best centres in the world??!! did you watch brian odriscoll play for the lions yesterday, he fucking tore that team apart. oh and just because umaga and mortlock are physically stronger doesnt mean that they are better players, you actually dont know what youre talking about

  • @iloverugby7901
    @iloverugby7901 13 років тому

    When you sum things up, Brian has achieved more than most players have, he's one of the only players in the world that for years has consecutivley appeared on the world rugby dream team. He's the only player that can play anywhere on the pitch and still make a huge difference to the team.
    He will be missed when he decides to hang his boots up.

    @taweraster Also congrats on the win, but we were down to 14 men for 60 mins of the game and 13 men for 10 mins(Which was entirely our fault and we deserved it). Now I'm not saying we would have won if we kept pur 15 for the match but the game was over as a contest once the red was shown, as anybody who's ever played rugby knew it would be.

    Someones living in the past, its not 2007!!! we only have like 5-6 players from the 07 team. THIS YEAR we were unbeaten (2009-2010). We beat the world champions and drew with austraila and we are only getting better. The fact you look up youtube videos on irish players proves it. The southern hem teams are not what they were, your kidding yourself if you think they are.

    Well luckily the majority of the Rugby world disagrees with you. Like it or not when O'Driscoll retires he will be viewed as the best centre of the pro era. He's the highest scoring centre of all time and should have been IRB player of the year this year, I wouldn't have minded if Du Preez got it but McCaw didn't deserve it this year.

    Please mate stop you're embarassing yourself, I'm an avid rugby spectator, both Northern and Southern Hemisphere's, and if you've ever watched the Ireland v All blacks/Australia games you'd realise O'Driscoll always came out on top. Even the kiwi pundits admitted he was the best centre in the world for years.

    Watch Leinster vs. Munster 30-0 and see what BOD did to DeVilliers. Top of his game for 10 years andnow has the Silverware to prove it. It's easy to look good when playing in a brilliant team (Umaga, Mortlock, etc.). BOD was playing alongside players way inferior to him for many years. Not now though

    Without question the best 13 the world has ever seen...i seen umaga alot of times..brilliant player but BOD is just out of this world...every attribute a rugby player could want..the man is blessed and im thoroughly proud that he is irish

    No mate, just look at the Stats, O'Driscoll is the highest scoring Centre of all time. Ireland is the ONLY team Umaga hasn't scored a try Against. WHY because he was playing opposite O'Driscoll and couldn't cope with him. The stats don't lie mate.

    Nope, O'Driscoll is far better, and it's obvious other people agree with me just look at the view count of his videos compared to those guys, like it or not mate it will be O'Driscoll who will be remembered as the best 13 of the pro era. ;)

    people who say that Umaga was better without the ball then BOD is chatting absolute rubbish. even when BOD isn't having a storming attacking match he is always tackling and turning the ball over, he's as good as any top class flanker at the breakdown.

    It's corny but those Creed Lyrics really suit this vid "....I'm careless, I Believe...", one of the best things about O'Driscoll is the effect he has on the players around him. Just look how the Lions collapsed in the second test when he got injured.

    @chubb123 That's probably because Ireland, even with Bod and Rog have totally failed to make an impact on the world stage, ie World Cup, and at the end of the day it's a team game.
    (But the same could be said of Dan Carter)

    how can you put a career like Brian O'Driscoll's into highlights? You just can't, no highlight video will do the great man justice.
    As a rugby lover since i was 6, I'd kill to be half as good as him.
    WE LOVE YOU BRIAAANN,

    This is a great video and the best bit is that BOD's best attribute isnt even shown - that is the amount of turnovers he forces - he is the best defensive back in the world and up there in the top 3 for attacking midfielder

    The Earliest Rugby match i can remember is Him against France in 2000, In my eyes he will always be the greatest Player in History.
    Please BOD bring us a Heniken Cup and Lions Tour, that would make my year.

    @BroomeBlocker4 mmmm spear tackling BOD in the opening moments of the Lions tour putting him out of action for the rest of it.....that's the kind of cynical cheating only Michael Schumacher understands.

    The Lions 2001 ty is still the best individual effort I have ever seen. That wasn't even a gap, and he still chose to hit it and bust through two tackles.
