@CamMci
I didn't think I'd ever see this gem of a soundtrack on YT ever again!
Thanks for uploading it. Another channel Virginia Tech Alumni had originally posted this back in 2008 or so but the channel disappeared about four years ago. Missed this beautiful underappreciated masterpiece while it was missing from YT!
UA-cam MVP.
I'm on the verge of tears as I search through youtube for the American Psycho soundtrack, since I'm positive it won't be there... but it is. The relief washes over me... in an awesome wave...
@Joseph Baron
Wow, I think I was posting with you on another channel with the regular movie soundtrack about not being able to find this instrumental soundtrack a couple of years ago or so. Glad someone finally uploaded it again.
Do you like Huey Lewis and the News?
You sound like Patrick bateman
I love you.
That’s my favorite line. It makes me laugh every time. On the verge of tears lmao
The whole album has a clear crisp sound with a constant professionalism that really gives the album a big boost

I'm highly intrigued by the cover art. The hollow caskets where there should be eyes. The blood red forehead, seemingly skinless, revealing a disturbed soul. Combined with the neutral glare of the succesful business man. This is what Patrick Bateman would look like if his looks revealed his inner self: completely dissolved. Like a bag of shards, kept together by the tightness of his suit. Eerie, really eerie.
I read this in Patrick's voice
Ikr I love it, it’s creepy. I wish I had that front cover on my copy of the book, on mine I’ve got a silhouette of Bateman with ‘American Psycho’ in tiny red letters above instead. Nowhere near as good as that cover.
ua-cam.com/video/vzN3qO-qc8U/v-deo.html Looks like that after ‘killing’ Paul Allen
Dude!!! How do you even articulate your thoughts and feelings in a manner as impressive as this? How???
This is exactly the feeling that I had looking at this cover which is why I searched everywhere to get a copy with and it and luckily found an older one on ebay. The best version in my opinion.
How'd a nitwit like you get so tasteful?

“There are no more barriers to be crossed. All I have in common with the uncontrollable and the insane, the vicious and the evil. All the mayhem I have caused and my utter indifference towards it, I have now surpassed. My pain is constant and sharp and I do not hope for a better world for anyone. In fact, I want my pain to be inflicted on others. I want no one to escape. But even after admitting this, there is no catharsis. My punishment continues to elude me. And I gain no deeper knowledge of myself. No new knowledge can be extracted from my telling. This confession has meant nothing”

It's probably his most accessible lp with lovely orchestrated pop tunes. ua-cam.com/video/E7R7XZWSmKo/v-deo.html An other album of his you might like to try out is his 1989 release Words For The Dying, where he sets some of Dylan Thomas' poems into orchestral music. ua-cam.com/video/4yCKp9_m3k0/v-deo.html

I fear my mask of sanity is about to slip.
This movie is meant to be funny, not sad. But the last three tracks are so melancholic and bleak. You really feel his emptiness and loss of touch with reality. (The Desk, the Day Planner, and the End). Seeing Jean flip through his planner while crying kills me.
I’m really disappointed that there’s no track named “Paul Allen”.
I think it works. Meant to portray Pat’s inner turmoil or something.
I think that mirrors the movie itself. For me, the movie was immensely funny up until his phone call with his lawyer. Then it suddenly took quite a serious and grim turn imo
It's supposed to be a lot of things. Funny, absurd, scary, sad, thought-provoking. Movies can be more than one thing, you know.
One of the most beautiful films ever made.

In 2000, Cale released this. American Psycho. His most accomplished album. I think the best part is the morning ritual track, a song so relaxing, most people probably don't feel creeped out by it. But they should! Because it's not just about how well he takes care of himself. It's also about how he only cares about material things and is later going to be shown killing people!
@@jamlym4974 That was actually well-written by your part. I'm impressed!
Um, he's okay.

I'd kill to have this on vinyl. It is such an amazing soundtrack, great sounds.
7:20 Absolutely beautiful ♡
What do you call this genre of classical music? The dichotomy between the calm and chaos of each piece is so stark, I love it.
It's just classic orchestra i think, they aren't always the epic ones you see in medieval movies
I would put it in line with contemporary classical. It’s a very diverse genre ranging from completely atonal work to some truly beautiful compositions.
You might like some of the works of Arvo Part or Gorecki which have some similar feeling.
Also with elements from chamber music and classic Hollywood film soundtracks
@@CamMciJohn Cale is a classically trained musician, he started learning the piano aged six, joined the Welsh Youth Orchestra aged fourteen learning several instruments, among them his trademark viola. In the early 60s Cale studied musicology at Goldsmith's Collage in London and emmigrated to the US in 1963 on a Leonard Bernstein scholarship where he would work under the guidance of avant-garde luminaries John Cage, LaMonte Young and Iannis Xenakis. In late 64 Cale bumped into Lou Reed, forming the Velvet Underground and being their main creative force behind their then revolutionary and groundbreaking sound. John Cale is easily one, if not the most versatile musician(s) ever to have walked this planet.
Musical genius isn't even enough to describe this mans musical talent!

Impressive, very nice, now let's see Paul Allen's Orchestral Soundtrack by John Cale.
John Cale born 1942 in Garnant/Wales, started playing piano aged six, joined the Welsh Youth Orchestra aged 14, learned several other instruments such as the viola. Late 50's and early 60's Cale studied music at Goldsmith's College in London, to then emigrate to the US in 1963 on a Leonard Bernstein scholarship. Worked with avantgarde luminaries John Cage, La Monte Young and Yannis Xenakis. Bumped into Lou Reed late 1964 to form The Velvet Underground and was mainly responsible for their then revolutionary sound, adding classical and avantgarde elements and sounds to the band, such as the droning viola. After been kicked out of the Velvets in 1968 after their second album White Light/White Heat, Cale went on to arrange and produce Nico's album triology The Marbe Index, Desertshore and The End, laying the foundation of what was later to become goth. Furthermore he produced the debuts by The Stooges, Patti Smith and The Modern Lovers, all to become milestones in the making of punk. Since leaving the Velvets Cale has released more than 30 albums, including several soundtracks ranging from rock to pop, classical to experimental or electronica to punk. Cale has no musical limits and is easily one of the most versatile musicians who has ever walked this earth. The term genius is often used in an inflationary way, but in his case it is spot on. There is only ONE John Cale!
This soundtrack has meant nothing.
Fun Fact:
John Cale, the musical composer for American Psycho, is the same person who sings ‘Hallelujah’ in Shrek.
Good fact! That is a very nice version of Hallelujah too.
ok wtf
Also produced The Stooges, Patti Smith, Nico, The Modern Lovers, Happy Mondays, Sham 69, Squeeze, Jesus Lizard...
Cale’s back catalogue since leaving the Velvet Underground is astonishing, for those who haven’t checked out his work, you’ve got 40yrs worth of albums, from rock through to avant garde experimental, and a tiny taste of classical. Now excuse me, I have to return some videotapes.
John Cale is the Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde of contemporary music! 😎👹
Hey bro, you forgot to add Mareux - the Perfect Girl.
C'mon it's the most famous song in American Psycho

POV: Your friend tells you they have to, “return some videotapes.”
I just can't get over the fact that we STILL haven't seen an official release of this score ! The main theme..! The piano theme of The Ritual..! La-La Land, Intrada, anybody...Please...Let's do John Cale justice.
I'm trying to listen to my orchestral soundtrack but Evelyn, my supposed finance keeps buzzing in my ear
This is such a detailed soundtrack. John Cale really is a great composer
This soundtrack has Eyes Wide Shut vibes.
The Soundtrack is so eerie yet so beautiful. It seems like every track seems to get more darker as it goes on. It's really a perfect representation of Patrick Batemans Character. The Original Book cover can be applied to this as well. It's crazy how a book cover could be so soulless and packed full of meaning at the same time.
11:24 such a creepy part. Especially with a picture of Bateman walking with the twin towers in the background. Eerie indeed.
How many of you love American psycho?
The main theme compliments the book cover perfectly.
The music is genius. Captures the mood.
John Cale is genius, qulte likely the most versatile musician ever to have existed. But beware, he's the Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde of modern music, some very accesable, some frightening and menacing.
Right, recently when watching it again I said Jeezis John Cale did the music, because it was in the opening credits. I thought, wow, this movie is in itself it's own dynamic masterpiece - because it's nothing like the book - but I watch it a couple times a year and read the book every once in awhile too - separate. They're both great and because Ellis was the topic, very eighties and I love the eighties. This soundtrack is so very good it should have been released with other stuff as a record, strange that it wasn't. Puts me in the mood to bribe the man at Dorsia to get a table or take him out into the alley if he doesn't comply.
Thank you for posting this jewel.
I adore this film and the book! It is Bret Easton Ellis’ masterpiece!
Thank you albert einstien for uploading this
Let's see Paul Allen soundtrack
Do you have the restaurant break up scene music? I can only find scenes from the actual movie, with talking. I just want the piano music from the scene
Sadly not. If it were composed for the film I think it would be in this soundtrack. So I suspect it is some classic jazz piece. Maybe a jazz aficionado may be able to identify it.
A great, great soundtrack. A personal favorite.
Bir Patrick Bateman düşüncesi var. Bir tür soyutlama, ancak ben gerçekte yokum. Sadece hayali bir varlıktan ibaretim. When i listened to this from start to end, i expected the last song also titled American Psycho to be far more disturbed and avant-garde. It isn’t. It is the exact same. Chilling.
There is a constant feeling of energy and charisma SCREAMING throughout the entirely of this soundtrack. Any other composer would’ve made this bleak and terrifying, but know. John Cale’s name seriously sounds like he could’ve been a background yuppie in this movie.
Anyone know how to get.........Cran-Apple stains out of very expensive sheets
I'm going to go out on a limb here... and suggest that Bernard Herrmann's soundtrack to Psycho probably influenced this.
The film appeared to be an thinly veiled comment about the eighties and the Reagan years in the USA. The music fits with that theme.
MY PAIN IS CONSTANT AND SHARP AND I DO NOT HOPE FOR BETTER WORLD FOR ANYONE. IN FACT I WANT MY PAIN TO BE INFLICTED ON OTHERS. I WANT NO ONE TO ESCAPE.

The music pays homage to Bernard Herrmann just as the film pays homage to Hitchcock.

I live in the American Gardens building on West 81st Street, on the 11th floor.
My name is Patrick Bateman.
I'm 27 years old.
I believe in taking care of myself, in a balanced diet, in a rigorous exercise routine.
In the morning, if my face is a little puffy, I'll put on an icepack while doing my stomach crunches.
I can do a thousand now.
After I remove the icepack, I use a deep-pore cleanser lotion.
In the shower, I use a water-activated gel cleanser.
Then a honey-almond bodyscrub.
And on the face, an exfoliating gel-scrub.
Then I apply an herb mint facial masque,
which I leave on for ten minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine.
I always use an aftershave lotion with little or no alcohol,
because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older.
Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm, followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion.
There is an idea of a Patrick Bateman.
Some kind of abstraction, but there is no real me.
Only an entity-- something illusory.
And though I can hide my cold gaze...
and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping yours...
and maybe you can even sense our life styles are probably comparable,
I simply am not there.
A moment of silence for those who haven't fount this yet.
I read the book and i was blown away by how phenomenal it was. A masterpiece no doubt, better than great gatsby
The Date sounds like his humanity kicked in to warn Jane.
I see they’ve omitted the pork loin with lime jello.

This music sounds like an RPG game.
i sometimes say that if i had to pick a movie as the only movie i could ever watch again i might pick this one. and its very strange that i pick this one lol. cuz im not into violence and all that.. i just see this as a very center point film as in.. a very "middle way" film... in a sense i suppose lul.. middle of society... middle of self... middle of mind... middle of conduct... a person who.. if reincarnation is a thing.. and if to say.. as we reincarnate we raise in consciousness.. (if we learn and grow) yes..
i see this as people who have .. in this life incarnation.. reached the exact halfway point of their enlightenment cosmic journey...
theyre not abhorrent barbaric scared shitless monkey men... theyre not One-With-God Enlightened Ascended Masters..
theyre not cautious about structure and how we flow in it.. Theyre not with genius set free
theyre just halfway... right in that middle spot.. where one is the furthest away from God and furthest away from complete Fear..
only with Will Power as theyre higher-power.. learning about their own personal power and what they can do without God at the most extreme level for this incarnation...
anyway farewell lol
@Nihilism the characters and environment in the film are like at the halfway point of spiritual, mental and physical enlightenment.
I listen this video while doing stomach crunches. I can do a 1000 now.
