    Alyn, another big Thank You for all your kind words and the amazing opportunity to have a conversation with you up a mountain👍 I have to say it is much more comfortable watching it in the warmth than the cold and wet summit of Slieve Commedagh, though I don't have a raven sitting feet away from me in my living room😊There was definitely every sort of weather that day and we were truly drenched at the end🌧🌧 It was so cool to sit and talk to someone about the importance to me of being in the mountains and to reflect on where that might have came from. This is such a cool series of films and it is allowing other people's journeys to continue to inform and inspire my journey👍 Massive thanks for all the unseen effort that you put in to making these films and I am looking forward to whoever comes next😊

      Aw Gerry. It was such an amazing day wasn't it! Although the unpredictable weather was tough to work with it made for such an interesting back-drop. I know I've said it 100 times now but your openness and your willingness to chat about the big stuff as well as the silly things made this video so difficult to edit because it was all good stuff. Take encouragement from the comments on here fella- there's a lot of love.

    It was great to hear Gerry talk about his life and his love for the mountains. I love how he said that he has slowed down and how he sees the beauty in everything no matter what the weather.
    Gerry is a big inspiration for me, I love following along on his camps and seeing those areas through his eyes.
    Cracking video Alyn 👍

      Thanks Jason, that means a lot. Im the same- Gerry has been a big influence on my walking journey too. His style of video making is really interesting and so simple and effective. He has such a great way of seeing things and getting it on camera. Got to admit felt a little awed walkin and filming with him. He is so genuine and open he's a real inspiration.

      Thanks so much. I have been touched by these creators/ walkers myself, they are the folk that inspired me with routes and trails, good practice and beautiful scenery so I needed to know what drove them to the mountains. Im so pleased you're enjoying the videos.....there are more to come.

    There’s always blue sky behind the clouds…what a beautiful line 😎 Good man Gerry on the pineapple, we’ve a lot to thank the 80’s for! 🎉 I’m so glad Gerry found his way to make videos - just like MountainViews inspired Gerry to go further afield, Gerry’s videos had a huge influence inspiring me to explore and spend more time alone. The remote, wild and empty places are a treasured gift. A privilege to hear more of Gerry’s backstory and learn what he gets from doing what he does and thank god for that fox all those years ago too! Before I spoke in a video - I deliberately went back and looked at Gerry’s videos to find the exact time he started to speak in his videos so I was familiar with the fox story. Well done Alyn for creating another lovely space to hear Gerry’s motivation and what he gets from his time in the mountains. Gorgeous shots of the Mournes on this changeable day too…another one to be proud of Alyn!! 👏🎉

      Thanks Miriam. Gerry was just so open and a bit like yours there had to be a lot of deep cuts. So much left out. He was so honest and direct. I could listen to him all day. He's such a wealth of knowledge and understanding. Im so glad I was able to spend time with him

    • @VISTATREKKER

      So Gerry chased the fox. The fox in some way chased Gerry to start to tell his tale. The tale inspired Miriam to tell hers too and so the spark begins to spread.
      So much is said of how bad the internet is but yet it can bring small groups of interest into a scale that makes them big enough to have a momentum of their own.
      Whether you’re trying to change your brakes on a car, sweep a chimney or change you’re life there’s someone there who’s posted the bread crumbs for anyone finding their way to follow.
      This is a nice example of that.

    • @walkwatchers
      @walkwatchers  Рік тому +2

      @@VISTATREKKER well said. This is what fascinates me about inspiration- a strange little happenstance on the top of a mountain with a fox, ignites something in Gerry who can't contain his excitement leads him to talk about it on camera- for the first time- which in turn supports Miriam in her drive to make more creative content. Food in a pack- a fox on a rock- inspiration and motivation. Love it.

      @@MiriamKennedy all well Miriam, haven’t managed to put anything out in a while, hopefully camping again next week though. Going to try editing more in winter to make more time in summer for doing summer things while kids are off. Either that or I’m just putting it all on the long finger 😆.
      Either way a couple of adventures are in the can already. I kind of hope that reliving a summer camp or paddle on the editor in a quiet January day might be a nice way of doing all this.

    The wind was a tough companion to the videographer but Gerry made up for it.
    Again this is a fantastic idea for a series. UA-camrs on this scale have other lives unlike the other people we see on screen for whom the screen is the bigger part of their life. This makes this interesting in the context of the people you are interviewing.
    It’s like when you listen to the words of a song and you wonder what was the trigger for it to be written. It is interesting to know what was the trigger for the creativity and inspiration that these folks give.

    • @walkwatchers
      @walkwatchers  Рік тому +1

      Totally agree!!!!
      Firstly the weather was all over the place and we struggled all day to get good spots to record without wind but hey ho thats filming on a mountain. Youre right too when you have a great interviewee like Gerry it makes the wind a little easier to put up with.
      And I'm glad your enjoying the series and getting a glimpse into the lives of some of the folk we have enjoyed walking with on UA-cam. I am 100% in agreement with you- people like Mike, Miriam and Gerry take us with them on a walk and allow us to see what they see- thats a special talent. There are others, more to come and I hope you enjoy the next videos as much as these first three. Thanks for the comments.

    Wow, what a great video and interview with Gerry, an inspiration to us all. It was great to hear some of his life story, motivations, and preferences, and what drives him to do what he does. He has always been very thoughtful in his comments to me, and he's just a great person, humble and generous. For me the hills are a leveller, we all have the same access, no one to tell us off, no one better than anyone else. I need to get out more!! Regards, Ashley

      And I totally agree, the mountains are a great place to just be yourself. They demand you strip away any pretence and walk at your own level, you can't fake that. The great leveller as you say. Always good to hear from you Ashley. Thanks for the comments

    Hi Alyn. Well, Gerry made you work for that interview, 17 km 🥵😅.The time seems to fly past so quickly when you are doing your interview videos. Another very revealing interview 👏. One line that stood out for me was " we are all on a journey." Sometimes, we think we can do it on our own, but we realise over time that we need other's, to make the journey more fulfilling. Gerry was very open about his life and fair play to him to put it out there. Another really enjoyable watch. Well done to both of you.👍

The whole day was such an experience and such a privilege to be with him in the mountains. Tbh I think I slowed him down! He was so open and has a lot of stories to tell. Unfortunately, if I had included everything, it would have been a much longer video.
