    I like how the kinect was specifically designed for games but absolutely failed in that category but when it came to other stuff like these,it does quite an excellent job.

      To be fair, I still use it for games. With driver4vr I use it for body tracking since my hmd has no base stations or tracking itself.

    Awesome! To delete unwanted parts you can also reveal all and alt select and then delete parts that appear in all scans. That saves a lot of work. When building also don't forget to set the alignment on mesh geometry like (not) shown in the video.

  • @SergioNayar
    @SergioNayar 2 роки тому +10

    In case some don't know, you don't have to do the clean-up one by one necessarily. You can select all images (ctrl-a) and do the cleanup by rotating the scans to the best point of view and select desired points to delete all at once. :)

    Thanks for showing this software!
    I just got a 3D Printer and a Kinect v2 WITH the windows hub.
    Windows own 3D scan misalignes the texture and Skanect does not recognize the depth sensor. This K Scan is working like a charm, like a very expensive piece of software! :)

    Thank you, I just stumbled across an old one of these Xbox relics and have actually been accustomed to using very expensive handhelds like Artec and Creoform with their native corresponding software. Of course these opportunities were not dependent on self funding or I would be in financial debt to the amount of what would buy me a nice 5 bed home in a desirable neighborhood! I’ve been quite impressed lately with the IPhone apps for the “true-depth” scanning options which are very impressive in quality and ease of use, not to mention price, free at best! LiDAR phone functionality is also very fast and accurate for mapping larger spaces and I can’t help but feel maybe a bit sorry for the specialized companies that might miss out on $30k+ and a software package with that lovely annual maintenance built in, for a meager IPhone 13 pro max with all of the laser tracking goodies and billions in research spent to get you a pocket scanner for about $1200, or monthly payments! I like the Xbox unit because it is purpose built to some degree and I am very happy to see there is a free supporting software out there that seems pretty straightforward and effective. Have to give it a go and see how she does with my old Sager metrology machine, so excited!

    Question: Can you combine the point cloud data with photogrammetry to be used in Photoscan or Realtycapture?

    I wonder if this can be used to scan the interior of a car? Our company builds roll cages for competition cars and the CAD information for the bodyshell isn't always available. If I could use the Kinect to scan the interior, I can then export to CAD to build the model for the roll cage. This would be especially useful for older vehicles where interior CAD data does not exist.

    I wonder if there's a way to connect (no pun intended) to multiple Kinect cameras for better and cleaner results. For example, on the professional 3d scanners, you stand in a chamber with multiple cameras in it and they all take a shot at you all at once. That's the idea I was referring to.

    How do you align properly? When I move the camera to get the top and bottom, the images don't merge like yours do. Each of the 3 sets (from different angles) form their own images but never seem to merge. I'm using the Kinect v2. It works well if I only have one angle but then I get a hole on top of the head if I don't take the top angle.

    I fully acknowledge i don't know how the Kinect technology works and i assume someone else would have though of this if it were an option but...since the kinect uses infrared light as of its technology and that seems to be sensitive to temperature (right?) would figuring out a way to vary the temperature of the object have some kind of bearing on the result? I mean holding a cold compress over an area with a lot of textures and maybe evenly a applying some heat from a hair dryer to another area? Is that not how it works?

However it should be compatible with this software, though some other software packages it isn't. Felice Caccamo I guess it probably is

    • @adamking8301
      @adamking8301 6 років тому

      Felice Caccamo the Kinect V2 uses time-of-flight and Kinect V1 uses structured light. Time-of-flight has a few advantages, one being improved spatial resolution, which is good for body tracking and gestures, but means more noise, and sensitivity to the colour and material of objects for the use of 3d scanning. Some softwares will probably counter for that so it might be down to what software you use to get the most out of the V2

    hi there, i have seen this video and i find it amazing. im at the beginning on trying to learn about 3d scan and 3d printing this is a great platform to start but i have a small doubt, you scanned the external part of the helmet but how about if i wanted to scan also the interior? what should be the steps within this tutorial? thanks!

      Hi Antonio, I'm glad you liked the video and thanks for the comment.
      Unfortunately the interior gets a lot more complicated. You may have limited luck scanning that with photogrammetry, but really, unless you're able to take it apart and scan it in pieces, you'd be better off just taking measurements and modeling from scratch.

    Would it be possible to scan a whole car with this approach? Using the Kinect scanner?

      Technically yes. However, two main things to be aware of. Firstly, the kinect needs to be wired both for power and to a functioning computer. You could rig this up to a compatible laptop and some sort of powerable mains power supply in a backpack, but otherwise, you'll need some big trailing cables to get the Kinect everywhere you need it for the scan.
      The other thing to bare in mind is that the mirrors and windows will likely cause some issues with the scan so you'll probably have a fair bit of cleanup to do after the scan is complete.

      Hey, I'm very sorry for the late reply. I've been recovering from a serious accident since July last year and whilst I've been reposting for the last couple of months I'm now getting round to catching up on my comments. Have you checked when you close it that all functions are closed in your Task Manager? It sounds like when you close it, it's still staying open somewhere in the background. Try opening your task manager (Ctrl+Shift+ESC) and see if anything is listed there that's associated with it, right click it and hit 'End Task', then reload it and it should be cleared

    there is a zoom attachment for the Kinect sensor, is that something that I should get to scan small objects, or should I ignore that?

      I've not tried it but I don't believe it'll magnify the projector component so may cause issues with the scanning function rather than improving them.

    How do you do a 3D video capture with the Kinect?

    Am I right in thinking you can't export the image data, just the raw 3d model?

      did you solve this? i cant seem to export the image data either :/

      @@unpelagato hey! So it's been a while since I looked but from what I recall only certain formats exported the texture map along with the object. I didn't get into checking anything regarding editing the models though, just previewing them in 3D viewing software

    i'm sure there's a reason this is different from just using a regular camera to gather the scans? but youve taken so many scans that i cant imagine not getting the same model from using as many smartphone images in K-Skan

      The Kinect has a depth sensor and infrared projector that is required for more accurate 3D scans. While it is possible to do with a regular camera, it becomes much more complex and you may not get as good of results as using a real sensor that has depth detection.
