    so. quick update in 2023. it's hit and miss wether any pc will manage to get the scanner connected to it, and then to the software. I tried on multiple computers and some wouldn't see the kinect, and some would see it but not connect to 3d scanner. i'd say, test before you buy, if possible.

    Great Video! Thanks! Too bad the scanner has trouble with smaller objects. 3D scanning seems to be a bit of a challenge these days for those of us who have limited budgets and can't afford to invest in high dollar scanning equipment. It would be nice to be able to come up with a good DIY low dollar solution using existing and readily available equipment such as this.

      I'm engineering student from Poland and unfortunely I think that It's not as precise as you need. I was thinking the same way before using Kinect V2 as a 3D scanner. It's definitely better to design parts in 3D software like Solidworks. If You want to scan objects like figures, art, people etc, then kinect is just ok but not perfect as You can see on this video.

    I bought a Kinect V2 and I'm taking a sura to connect it to Windows 10 even with the original source, I managed to get it to work with a lot of cost and after the PC restarted it stopped working in the 3D Scanner and in the part of unlocking the PC via facial recognition doesn't work, nor is it recognized and I followed some tutorials from 2015 and it didn't work.
    He does not do facial recognition, I saw some videos on youtube in 2015 that people connected the kinect V2.0 on windows 10 with the adapter and agreed to unlock it with facial recognition, now I was in doubt because I bought a kit, the PC recognizes Kinect but does not do Face Recognition because the system does not accept it.
    The KINECT for WINDOWS (Configuration Verifier) ??application has these settings "Update Configuration Definitions" and the "USB Controller" with a yellow exclamation and the rest with a green "V". With the 3.0 font it would work and end this yellow exclamation and change to the "V" in green?
    You would know how to connect and configure correctly in Windows 10 and where to download the software since Microsoft took the pages down and a Helicopter is upside down and with code 404, so I'm having these difficulties, would you know me help or give a light?

    • @Crosslink3D
      @Crosslink3D  4 роки тому

      That kind of works, I tried it - with some mixed results. You need to have a very clean background and the turntable needs to have a lot of features. Some people mentioned that putting a newspaper on the turntable is the easiest. The software needs points to recognize the position of the turntable and at the same time it shouldn't be able to locate anything in particular in the background that might lead it into thinking your're not moving around the object. it's obviously not made for this kind of scenario.

    Hi. Very interesting your video but I have a 16gb ram surface pro 6 computer and I can't recognize the kinct. I followed the steps and installed the drivers but I still don't see the image. what do you think

    • @ElMatero6
      @ElMatero6 2 роки тому

      Might want to get a Xbox Kinect instead of whatever a kinct is. That might fix it.

    Can you generate a model without completely getting a 360 view? If I wanted to scan my trunk to do some mods would this get me a reasonably accurate model?

    • @Crosslink3D
      @Crosslink3D  4 роки тому

      Yes, you can also do partial scans. You will have to edit them in Meshlab maybe and / or a 3D modeling software later to fix any issues

  • @necoinside
    @necoinside 5 років тому +4

    You should print a turntable that just turns the objects while scanning. That way would be easier and more quality than to turn around objects.

    • @Crosslink3D
      @Crosslink3D  5 років тому +2

      Yes, definitely going to try this. However I will have to make a uniform colored background, evenly lighted (probably best in black or green). I tried in my usual environment with a turntable and the software completely freaked out because it tries to track the movement using the whole image.

      My first thought was basically the opposite of that. Boom arm the camera on a swivel. But your idea is much better.

    Great video Daniel. Really interesting. Can’t wait to see how the 360 does as well. I would say though you should mount the scanner and have the model rotate only needing to background one area or you could 3D print a rotating adjustable arm ... just a couple ideas. Keep up the great videos. You have helped me quite a bit with your videos. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

      Thanks! The new video is available for patrons now ;-) The turntable mode is something I will try out but it's not that simple. The background then needs to be evenly lighted and one color. I will try this out and post my results soon.
