The Timex T20041 is a simple beautiful inexpensive watch for men. It includes the day, date, and a splash of bright red color for the second hand against a white face with black numbers and minute/hour hands. Accuracy is within two seconds a month. It's also water resistant to 30 meters and features an Indiglo blue light for night viewing.

Hahaha I'm with you. You can still find some nice watches at Macy's, Dillards, heck even Zales. They even help you work out a deal that's affordable for you. You don't have to spend a crazy amount of money on a watch to look good. A watch is just a small piece of the full package of you. As long as it compliments your style/outfit well; you're good

I totally agree with this video. I have 3 watches myself. I’m an Engineer, so I spend the majority of the day dressed casual in polo shirts, khakis, and loafers. So I have a causal MVMT watch with a brown leather band that I wear every day in the office. I workout a lot also, and I generally wear all black while I’m working out; so I wear an all black MVMT Sports watch while in the gym. Finally, I like getting dressed up when I go out to dinner; so I have a silver Rolex Oyster Perpetual for dinner dates, special formal events, and holiday parties.

Good video for novices. I mostly agree with you, especially about finding something that fits your look and your lifestyle. There are only a few rules, and even there, those rules can and have been broken by people, famous and not so famous, so if you feel like you understand the rules but choose to break or bend them, have at it.
So the only rules I think almost always apply are these. No digital watches or watches with plastic or rubber bands with a suit. (I know Teddy's friend Kevin O'Leary disagrees with this as he wears his Rolex on a red rubber band, but even though he is a famous rich guy, I think he is wrong). Similarly, sports watches on NATO straps probably not the best with a suit, but again, there are exceptions.
Consider the size of your wrist when picking a watch. A man with a larger wrist or larger frame generally can pull off a larger watch. A man with a small frame and a small wrist will look even smaller wearing a watch that is too big on him. More specifically, I would tell smaller guys to stay away from watches bigger than 44 mm, as they will make your wrist look puny. (and btw, I wonder if this is why some women like large watches) Similarly, large men probably should look for a watch at least 38 mm, though there are exceptions, like, for example, the Rolex Datejust which looks great and wears bigger than the 36 mm.
As I alluded to already, the strap and/or bracelet is almost as important as the watch. A sporty watch can be dressed up on a leather strap, while a dressy watch can be more of an every day piece on a bracelet. And some watches just look iconic on certain bracelets.
Shiny black leather is probably the dressiest leather strap. Matte finishes and/or shades of brown or other colors are less formal, but still more formal than a bracelet, which is more formal than a Nylon or NATO, which is more formal than a plastic, rubber or silicone strap.
Dress watches look best on leather straps, IMO. If you wear a dress watch as an every day watch and want to save your leather strap from deteriorating in hot or humid weather, consider switching out to something like a Milanese or beads of rice bracelet, or a Perlon strap.
If you live in a hot, humid climate, leather straps might be a problem or at least you need to replace them more frequently than someone who lives in a colder climate. Sporty watches can look great on a bracelet, NATO, or perlon strap. Then you can switch back to leather in the fall or winter.
There are so many different choices at different price points, so there should be one for you. If you only have $100, don't be ashamed. There are plenty of great deals at that price. Similarly, if you like the finer things in life, like a Rolex or Omega, it doesn't mean that anything cheaper is sh't.

    2) Rolex Datejust41 Azzurro blue dial.
3)Santos de Cartier large 2 tone.

    Here’s my budget picks:
    Everyday watch: Addiesdive AD2118
    - Sapphire crystal, automatic movement, date/time, screw down crown, 100m water resistant, and comfortable to wear.
    Sports watch: Timex Waterbury TW2V49800
    - Compressor style watch with two screw down crowns, 100m water resistance, and added an $8 rubber strap to make it fully submersible. Leather strap it comes with can make it a dress option too.
Dress watch (have not attained yet): Orient Bambino 38mm version 7 black faced variant
    - Date/time, automatic movement, domed crystal
All can be had for less than $400. If I had a little more to spend, I’d swap the Timex for an Orient Kamasu 2 RA-AA0811E19B and the Bambino for the Seiko Presage SRPD37.

Courtney, new sub here, and I have to say that I only agree with one aspect of this review (this is personal preference of course). The all metal version of the classic square gshock, the MW-B5000D-1JF is the end all be all for me. It's classy enough to be worn at my accounting firm while also rugged enough to go on a hike through the badlands of South Dakota and through rigorous truck repairs. At the price point of $500, I think this is much more affordable than the ones you mentioned here and would most likely last longer than any of them to boot. Love the video! Keep em coming!

I gave my nephew a Powermatic 80 as his first watch, its got an unbelievable movement at that price-point. He threw it on a leather strap (Cognac) without any coaching. That Hammy is a nice watch, you can mix it up with a variety of looks. I'm currently wearing my 1965 Accutron Spaceview. I got my 39mm 214270 in October from an AD...and then it was DC'd it. So glad they did that, and no I don't like the 36, it's too small...but I do like the updated movement. I feel like they may go back to the 39 in the future with an updated movement. Just ordered an SPB185 baby mm - Steelmaster not because I think it will appreciate, but simply because I like it.

Courtney, you have some good ideas however most of your suggestions are very expensive. I have been wearing various watches most of my life and I personally gravitate toward Timex, Casio, and other brands. Analog, digital, or both. Many good watches can be purchased for $50 or less. Teddy also likes automatic watches and they are fine, but most of them are expensive and that is fine if you can afford them. I have a casual daily watch that I enjoy wearing which costs under $40.
    I enjoy your videos.

Hi Courtney, just wanted to say I think the channel is great. I never was a watch guy until apple came out with their watch so I have been wearing one of those daily and just switching the strap and the face to fit the situation. Pretty pathetic thinking that was somehow stylish. Having watched this video months ago I set out trying to find a watch that was in my budget, that fit my style which is typically jeans, boots, button down and light wool sweaters being in Michigan. I then dove in head first researching and watching hundreds if not a thousand reviews. A lot of them from Teddy who I only found out about the connection yesterday. I narrowed my first down between Hamilton khaki field, oris pro pilot, oris pointer date. In the end I went with the oris pro pilot which was not the cheapest choice by a long shot with a black dial, metal strap then picked up a second oris strap that is black canvas with a leather lining to dress it down. Since getting it I’ve received tons of compliments and questions on it which my Apple Watch never did. What would you suggest for a second watch? Again love the channel with your brutal honesty and your face that reads like a book on what you’re thinking. You can almost tell exactly what you’re going to say before you say it just looking at your facial expressions. I love it.

Love getting a more style type video. I've recently discovered the joy of having options with watches. I wear a digital Timex Ironman watch when I'm at work as a paramedic. I keep it in military time since that's how I have to document everything. The Indiglo on it works great since I work nights. I really got into watches about 2 years ago. Luckily I stopped before going too far down the rabbit hole, but I definitely have 3 heavy hitters in my collection.
My everyday watch is a G-Shock (GA700UC-3A). The thing is bomb proof and I took it with me through basic training and it isn’t super expensive at only $80-$100 depending on where you get it.
Another watch I have is an A-10 tribute watch from Bristol Watch Company. The A-10 is the aircraft I work on and I hope to one day fly so I of course had to have a watch to reflect that. I don’t know if they’re still available as it is a limited run of 1972 of them, but they cost $545
My favorite watch is my automatic Pilot watch from Marc and Sons, a German company. Simple but has enough on the dial to look like the instrument panel on a cockpit so I really like it. It costs about $412.11 USD. My only complaint about it is that it either slides around on my wrist or I have to tighten the strap down so that it cuts off circulation to my hand. I wish there were a strip of rubber on the inside of the leather strap to keep it from sliding.

My everyday watch is a solar Citizen Chandler watch. More so now than before I am outside or work labor industry. I have a 4 watch collection right now. Two are very slightly redundant but out of those two one is a tiny bit more classic look and dressy. Other one is more technical but both are field watches. And since I occasionally in and out of water I like 100m+ WR. My dress watch is the only one not to that spec. And it's a versitile dress watch. It's a blackout Marlin. I currently kind of like dressier chronographs, you know the kind that doesn't sport a wide bezel for the tachometer or whatever. For my first watch since childhood, I chose a budget one with a white face, stealthy chrome-like markings and stainless bracelet precisely because it's dressy enough for when I dress up and still a chronograph which pleases my everyday taste. Considering getting a couple more so I have options (black and brown leather straps, black, blue and white faces, maybe a more attention-grabbing option while I'm at it)

Hence my daily wearer is a Grand Seiko on a metal bracelet but with an amazing dial, my dressy watch is a Cartier Tank Anglaise (chunkier than the other Tank models), and sometimes I'll wear a Nomos Tangente or Rolex Oyster Perpetual on weekends when I don't care about the date. I am eyeing Citizen Promaster as I hike a lot and love chronograph type watch face.
PS I was lowkey amused with the watch hints towards Teddy 🤭

Watches tell time. One that looks nice is a bonus. If anyone tries to sell you a watch that looks incomprehensible and costs a fortune, it's an expensive wrist band, not a watch.
Watches also prevent you from pulling out and getting sucked into your phone. It gives you some much-needed discipline. Discipline is attractive, btw.

So for many years while I was flying for the Army I wore an Omega Speedmaster Mark III which was like a tank for durability. I then started wearing Breitling Navitimers and Rolex GMT and for really dressing up like in a Tux or my Dress Blues it is a baume & mercier

It's often been mentioned that watch size is up to the individual person's preference, but can you comment on how women perceive watch sizes on men? Do bigger watches look more masculine and/or do smaller watches look too feminine on guys? E.g., a 40 or 42 mm watch vs a 38 or 36 mm watch?

    • @CourtneyRyan
      @CourtneyRyan  3 роки тому +1

I think it depends on the girl and her preference and also a guy’s wrist size. My boyfriend has a smaller wrist and can pretty much get away with wearing anything!

Wait do you really own a 42 mm Orient Kamasu as a woman?
As a man with 6.5 inch wrists I tried it on and the 42 mm dial was still to big for my taste.
I usually go for 38 mm dress watches and 40 mm divers.

Hey Courtney I was recently nominated and elected to be the next Elks Lodge Chaplain at my local lodge and I had to buy a tux because of the many formal events we hold. I had my first event two weeks ago and for the first time was embarrassed to wear my Apple watch because I felt the other ones were more sporty. I think I saw at least one watch in each category that might answer the mail but I could use some suggestions. Any recommendations that won't break the bank?

If I were inclined to have an addiction, and if I could afford the addiction, it would be watches. I have three vastly different watches - a dress watch with a leather band, a chronograph with a leather band (I want to switch it to a metal bracelet, but I'm having trouble finding one that matches well) and a fairly plain but attractive watch with a fabric band for most every day use. All of them are analog. Digital just isn't my style. All three are Timex, so they were inexpensive (less wailing and gnashing of teeth if one should break), but all look really nice. Other than the possible use of precious metals or gems in some cases, I really don't know what an expensive watch offers that a cheaper one doesn't. Is a $1,000 watch ten times more reliable than a $100 watch?
Only the most diehard watch fans will know you're not wearing a watch that costs hundreds or thousands of dollars. If it matters to a woman what brand I'm wearing, then maybe she's not the one for me. I'd only buy an expensive watch if it had a look I couldn't find in a less expensive watch.
Of course, if you're looking to give away that rare, expensive watch that's just collecting dust, my mailing address is...

    My list:
    Everyday watch: Rolex Yacht Master
    Sport/workout watch: Samsung Galaxy watch
    Outdoor/rugged watch: MTM Vulture
    Dress watch: Santos De Cartier
I would only consider wearing a sports watch with a suit if the watch had a steel or leather band.

      Mine:
Everyday watch for summer: Casio AW-80 Telememo, Casio Duro
      Everyday watch for winter: G-Shock
Dress watch: Citizen Promaster GMT, Stauer Urban Blue
Metal band dive watches are great because they are so versatile. You can dress them all the way up, all the way down, or anywhere in between.

Feel like a lot of these don't really stand out and there are far better options at cheaper prices too. Something like the Lacoste 12.12, the Invicta Pro Diver, either a slim runway or a chronograph from Michael Kors etc. I could not fathom paying 2-2.5k for a minimalist watch by a brand that is in essence only recognized by a select few. Maybe that's just my limited watch knowledge.
