    Super helpful video, thanks for the details! I'm planning to use the Pi Camera Module v3 for a project on the Pi Zero 2W and noticed that you were using it. Did you experience any lag in the video, or was it buttery smooth?

    Great video! I’m new to using Raspberry Pi but need a small camera for taking video recordings on a project I’m working on. Is there a noticeable difference in frame rate when using the camera on a raspberry pi 3 vs a pi 4? The pi 3 has been easier to find so if I’d rather use that if possible.

      No both should perform at the same specifications

    Great and straight to the point comparison. Have you succeeded configuring V3 for Octoprint / Octolapse yet? I've had nothing but issues with v2 when going past 720p. 1080p works for a little while and then stalls. And the picture is either of poor quality or zoomed in, depending on the usb / raspi parameter. It produces a ton of data and a cinsiderable load on the network as well. I was really hoping that perhaps V3 could finally be usable at FHD res.

    • @notenoughtech
      @notenoughtech  Рік тому

      I know that support for v3 for octoptint is in the works with release imminent. So hopefully we we'll see some improvements there. I haven't come across any issues with my octolapse if I'm honest. The only problems initially was to figure out what configuration schema rpi uses vs usb in the config file. Both were responding to different entries (covered in octolapse video on pi camera). Be sure to avoid auto setting

      @janj5163 Рік тому

      Great news. Let's hope they solve the stability issues some of us are having. And add more options. For some reason 1080p just doesn't work here. Even sending remote move commands to the printer takes 5 seconds in that mode.

    • @john_hind
      @john_hind Рік тому

      @@notenoughtech Sadly 'imminent' can be a long time in Octoprint land! There is a special version in Raspberry Pi Imager now, but I found it unreliable and I kept having to reboot to restart the camera feed. Also a special OS image does not really suit my way of working since I want to put other stuff on the Pi as well. I do not really need Octolapse (though it would be nice), just the camera feed on the web UI. This ought to be straight forward since it is just putting a web stream in a frame on a web page. Any further insights on this would be very welcome!

  • @john_hind
    @john_hind Рік тому

    Anyone know of a GUI app to do this stuff without all this command line faffing? Even better a web app? I was quite surprised there was nothing in the base Raspberry Pi OS installation.

    • @notenoughtech
      @notenoughtech  Рік тому

      RPI Pico isn't powerful enough to handle video output. You will need at least RPI Zero

    New to this. Bought one of the V3 to try it for astro photography and time lapse. But I've since been told it might not be any good for Astro. Oh well :) Main question is, is there an 'app' or program with a GUI that I can use to control the camera. ?

    • @notenoughtech
      @notenoughtech  Рік тому +1

      You could use it for that although HQ would be better suited as you can get adapters to connect to your telescope.
      You will need something to seat the camera properly and you will make it to work. Especially if you can 3d print an enclosure. As for gui I haven't checked yet but if you look for pi camera on Google I'm sure someone have done a basic interface already.

      Hello - what brand is your tripod and red camera mount and where did you purchase it? Great video !

    • @notenoughtech
      @notenoughtech  Рік тому +1

      The mount was a part of the Arducam. The tripod was something I dug out. The mini legs were part of the hohem gimbal. So you can't really buy it unless you get the whole thing. You can look online at mini tripods. Anything with a quarter inch adapter will work

    Hi, I used to film fullhd 30fps capture with v2 camera for 2-4 min video clips requiring constant framerate. I could only achieve it with RPi4 with at least 4GB RAM with sufficient RAM dedicated to video memory (256 or 512MB), otherwise frame drop would start to develop after approx 1min of filming. I was wandering how you are filming with pi nano?

    • @notenoughtech
      @notenoughtech  11 місяців тому

      It's pi zero 2. It's the same cpu as on rpi3 so it has more than enough to sustain it. Perhaps look into bitrate of your video? It's all about good compression and codec

    • @devnull256
      @devnull256 11 місяців тому

      @@notenoughtech *zero of course, sorry for typo. CPU has little to do while capturing, it is videobuffer memory size I think. Was wandering if there are any tests of continuous fullhd video capture with zero 2, can it keep the framerate beyond 1-2 min of footage? I needed fairy high bitrate, captured with standard pi CLI tool to h264 file.

      @PaulCaseyFan21 Рік тому

      Like the IMX230 or IMX586 for example. The only downside being the zero does not offer MIPI connectivity so would have to opt for the rasberry pi 4. But interested in hearing your opinion. My use is for recording high speeding objects so would require a decent fps

    • @notenoughtech

      I haven't used kilpper yet, I have a suspiction it manages the stream in a similar way to octoprint where a completely separate library handles the video stream and kipper just embeds the URL.
