    Excellent video. I have a really handy tip for cleaning the Traxxas Maxx. After cleaning the car remove the pinion cover and leave the car upside down. Water collects in this housing and causes the lower bearings to rust a seize. Leaving the car upside down allows the water to run out. Worth spraying some WD40 in there too.

    I used Corrosion X wet/dry formula on all my electronics and connectors. You can spray it straight into your reliever as it's not conductive. It will leave a waterproof barrier over the electronics. It's great for the metal parts and bearings preventing them from rusting. It will last up to 5 washes before you need to apply again. Especially if you're using a degreaser.

    Took me forever to figure out why my bearing kept going out. I used to use a power washer with degreaser. Took me several months to figure out it was the cause of all my bearing issues. I think im gonna go by some detail brushes like in your video. Great Video as always I made my 6 year old daughter watch with me. So she can see how to Clean her senton 4x4

    Great video and very practical, thanks. I have heard good things about the Cow RC products. I have heard that some people will spray their cars down with WD40 before going for a run and less dirt and grime stick to the cars. I have never tried it.

      WD40 also softens the plastic preventing it from becoming brittle and breaking. WD40 Silicone spray is the same as COW RC Moo Slick. It's a silicone spray. The difference is COW RC dries quicker and leaves less residue. The dirt just flies right off. Amain Hobbies has their Protek RC version. PB Blaster is also the same but takes longer to dry.

    It's nice living in florida, we don't have "dirt" lol. I have an arrma 3s typhon, and all I do is set the hose to the "shower" setting and the sand just falls off. I spray a little silicone lube into the pivot points, and sliding driveshafts, not the bearings or electronics and thats been amazing for me. The plastic on plastic friction points (pivot ball/rod ends) do get chewed up quickly from the sand, but they're super cheap, and I'm a basher. If the rods are a little loose...eh.

    What I do (it’s fairly simple and effective) is obviously spray it with water, than use air pressure, and when most of the water is off, I use a hair dryer on 60-70 percent heat (or like 2/3rds the way to max) and heat the chassis/electronics, makes everything bone dry, most likely will do the wd-40 trick you told, (you really don’t need those cleaning products honestly)

    It helps if you replace the original screws with stainless steel ones so not to deal with rusty ones causing you problems in the future along with taping up the tire breather holes to prevent water in your tires between driving through water or cleaning your car with a hose .

      @pwrofgrayskull Рік тому

      Please elaborate as I am not in-the-know regarding Simple Green. I’ve had good results using it. Thanks in advance.

    • @redvikinghobbies
      @redvikinghobbies Рік тому +1

      @pwrofgrayskull Sure, put simply, no pun intended, Simple Green is a degreaser. A concentrated degreaser. Everything lubricated on your rig will dry up with its use. Take an engine bay on a regular car. Oil everywhere. Simple green will strip it right off. Make it look brand new. However, on our rc cars the Simple green concentrate is so powerful on non-stainless parts it will strip their coating off and cause oxidation to speed up. That's why they sell things like Fast Eddie's bearings and stainless hardware for our rigs separately. Simple green just speeds up the process.
      My first encounter was when after cleaning a Carisma SCA-1 Coyote. A few days after the truck was rusty. I couldn't figure out what happened. Then I used it on a 6s Kraton. Same thing. 3 days and it was showing rust on the screws. So I contacted a bunch of people about it and they all said the same thing. It'll clean far beyond your average rc cleaning job.
      But I wasn't convinced. So I took a WLtoys 144001 and cleaned it with Simple green and cleaned the other with Simple green but blew it out and gave it the wd40 treatment and let them both sit a week. Holy smoke! There was literally rust forming on the one with only Simple green on the motor. Which means in turn inside the motor as well. The other I hit again with WD40 just to wet it up (it had gotten sticky) blew it off and the car was perfect. Some SC1 on the shell and looked brand new.
      About 3 months later, after the Toyota Supra from Traxxas came out I saw one for sale on FB. The guy said "Ran Once" but every screw was rusty. Now I happen to have that car. And it's run more than once and is mint. So I said, "Sorry, not interested in the car, but did you clean it with Simple green?" He said "Yeah, how'd you know?" So I told him. He hit it with WD40 and it looked good as new. This isn't a wd40 plug, there are dry lubricants that are better, but sure enough. Saved the car and he was able to sell it.
      If the car is primarily stainless with sealed bearings and you don't use it on your electronics you can use it in certain areas. But people have been foaming their cars, that should last decades, and ruining it with this method.
      If you investigate the product outside of our rc world you'll see a lot of people dilute it and recommend always regreasing or lubricating areas where it degreased something requiring lubrication.
      Thanks for the ask! Take care!

  • @Harvz78
    @Harvz78 5 місяців тому

    The degreaser can seep in to the bearing, and it will desolve the grease in the bearing?

    Thanks for your input on this matter! An air compressor is really an awesome tool when cleaning a RC. 👌

    • @rcdriver

      @johnfaustus1 Рік тому +1

      WD40 (the primary ingredients are a light kerosene-analog and mineral oil) is _mostly_ fine to use.
      1. Almost all 'rubber' you will encounter is unaffected by WD40.
      2. Regarding 'plastics', you can largely break them down into 2 groups:
      A) Crystalline: Polypropylene, Polyethylene, Polyester (all types), Nylon
      B) Amorphous: Polycarbonate, Styrenics (including Polystrene and ABS), PVC
      A is unaffected. B is a big no-no - the petroleum will 'melt' the plastic.

    If my typhon gets really dirty and I need to use water to clean it, I remove the motor and reciever box just as a peace of mind kinda thing.
    But I prefer to not use water at all to clean my car because I find the impurities in the water start to rust metal parts and it feels like it takes longer to clean my car then just using brushes and compressed air.

    The best way to start is to NOT let it dry..
    Mud holds moisture longer. Just clean it right away after bashing with clean water nd dry it with a towel nd after that a hairdryer on the bearings, screws etc. After that its dry for 99% and only then put it on a shelve. I do this for more then 12years nd all my Rc's are clean. Benefit is that your desk stays clean after working on it. Also its better nd more enjoyable to work on a clean car then 1 that is covered with dirt
