Scotty, I love your channel and almost always agree with you - however buying a Ford 4 cylinder engine is a mistake. Starting in the late 80's, Ford makes the valve guides out of metal shavings, mixed with something similar to epoxy and compressed. Somewhere between 60 and 85Kmiles, they start to disintegrate and pieces of them fall on top of the piston without warning. Then the piece gets between the piston and the head when the piston comes up blows a hole in the piston, and about 30% of the time cracks the head as well. @@340395Andres you'll be needing repairs by then, and if you think otherwise... Have fun driving your rough-running piece of crap. Your Bronco will fail you, one way or another, before you finish this sentence. Research.
Scotty, love your videos. On the mileage average I would guess that the posted 18.5mpg was based upon segment of distance that can be adjusted as on my Yukon. Mine is usually set to the last 400 miles, which is typical mileage I get per tank. It can be adjusted to 200 or reset to zero to get more accurate daily driving as you were doing. My guess is Ford is the same. Been looking at the Bronco in the same color. Very timely video. Thumbs up!
Those hand bars to help people in and out of the back seat are wonderful! Always had to bring a small footstool so my mom could get in and out of my escape as there was really nothing to grab onto.
I like the new Bronco and i think Ford did a pretty good job modernizing it. I don't like it as much as the older Broncos though and I wish it came with a V8 option but it's still cool.
@@northdakotaham1752 A 60° V-6 is best for packaging and smooth running. A 3.5L to 4.0L would be enough power with variable valve timing and a 6-speed transmission.
Lol as a teen I would text and drive and sometimes when I looked up I didn’t even know how I got there because I hadn’t been looking for 5-10 mins. Still do it. Not a single accident. Everyone is different.
And by not looking I mean paying attention. I would still check my peripheral to make sure I was where I needed to be relative to the road, but that’s about it.
i just bought a cherry 1994 ford f-150 4x4 5.0 5 speed regular cab and short bed with only 108k original miles. I have been getting 18mpg on average in 50/50 driving. I shift below the 3000 rpm torque curve and usually below 2500 rpms. I love my truck its actually half the price to drive of my old 2014 ve jetta cuz i don’t have a car payment anymore. now I only spend like 300 a month between gas and insurance.
Hey Scotty with most vehicles with the automatic on/off when stopped you can put it in either Low or Manual mode for automatics, and hit the + button on the shifter until the highest gear is selected and it operates as a regular automatic. I do this for my 2018GM vehicle and my friend does this for his brand new f-150
Glad I waited 2 years and scored a Bronco 2-Door Badlands just under 50k fully loaded. Used but was under 10k miles and warranty still active on it. Traded in my sport and won't miss it aside that MPG.
The fact that they put the owner's manual in the actual computer of the car is a really good idea beings whenever you need to look something up you're usually in the car already. I like that idea, plus owners don't have the excuse of "I lost it so I didn't know".
@@pootmahgoots8482 yes, i know that. my point was sometimes its good to have things written down in a booklet like they have have been doing since the beginning of owners manuals.

It's building a f'ing Bronco...that's what I thought Scotty said. Wow, he is really excited about this Bronco. I had to listen to it a 2nd time to realize he said "bucking."
OMG !!! They just showed on the news them Motors ARE BLOWING UP IN THESE THINGS….Some poor lady was driving here bronco turned a corner and it shut off and never ran again . The dealer looked at it and said ya the motor hast to be replaced and we might have to do a massive recall cause dozens of other bronco motors are blowing do to a faulty valve in the motor… NHSTA is now involved in the investigation….
Huh. EcoBoost,2 turbos,GDI, in all other vehicles to much pressure in the engine. Usually says it is an unreliable engine, yet now....it's wonderful. Huh.
It sort of reminds me of the Scout. I think they were built by International Harvester, but don’t quote me on that. Do any of you remember the Scout? I don’t think many were built. This would’ve been sometime in the 70’s.
Yeah international built them and they were actually pretty good vehicles. The only problem they had is they were horrible rust buckets. the floorboards would rust right through before you could blink twice
The ecoboost has been around for a while and millions have been made. They aren't perfect but they do fairly well. The 2.7 is great in these but I wouldn't want one in an F150
@@johnwalker5622 the f150 and fusion both have great 2.7 generations. Just do maintenance. It’s not a coyote tho.. unless you play with the turbos but these are actually great platforms to tune ofc not for crazy power but decent gains and still reliable
I will keep my F350 King Ranch Powerstroke Diesel 4x4. It's coming up to 17 years old. I had it since brand new. Yes the frame will be around for years on the Broncos, but the longevity on the electronics is debatable.
Scotty is a great sales person…making an outrageously priced vehicle seem desirable. Actually, the Bronco looks nice & rugged with nice features. Ford should have spent the same time and effort on what used to be their line up of cars/trucks
Nice car! As for the refresh rate with MPGs, if I’m not mistaken, the longer it goes the slower it refreshes. On our Pacifica, after you reset it, it refreshes constantly and then gradually slows down. If not reset long enough, it seems like it never refreshes. Actually, I reset it every time I flll up and if I stop when the pump shuts off (as I usually do), the readout is very accurate (within 1 MPG either way). I also check it manually. Just a thought. Have a great day!
I’m sure somewhere in the thousands of comments is the mention that the mpg display he had on most likely is not set to showing the trip mpg but the overall for all rides which is why it wasn’t going down quickly. I could be wrong.
Thank you for differentiating between the Sport and this model, I've just started shopping these and didn't know the diff, especially between the unibody and truck frame model.
8:42 How far away are we from when you go over the speed limit, your car documents it and sends a report to the police, automatically issuing a ticket?!
So Ford did to the Bronco what Apple does to the iPhone, create 2 levels, one for someone who has deep pockets and the other for someone with not so deep pockets. That Maverick pickup looks interesting….. That vehicle has lots going for it… Nice video Scotty
The mediocre mileage is because it has the off-road Sasquatch package that has the 35" All Terrain tires under it. Dump the package, get Ecoboost 2.3L I-4 with the 7-speed manual transmission, in a 2-door version found in the base & lower end models, and you should see a significant mileage improvement. You'll gain more room under the hood to work in, too.
I got a 2021 4RUNNER last year. I had strongly considered a Bronco as well, but my ultimate deciding factor was that the Toyota is probably more reliable. I am overall very happy, but I do sometimes wonder what life would be like with the Bronco. I do wish the 4RUNNER had more than 5 speeds. No real complaints otherwise
You really don't need the turbos. Scotty says in other videos that turbos are bad for the internal components of an engine. They wear out the engines way faster. He says just get a normally asperated V8 (or V6).
few things you missed: the entire interior is rubberized and designed so that you can literally just hose it out doors are removable mirrors are body mounted instead of door mounted so you still have mirrors with the doors removed there are tons of kits/accessories that can be used on it 2dr variant can have a manual also about the bronco sport: its basically a ford escape with bronco badges and some bronco features
Yeah, those start/stop systems are popping up in everything now. Some of the automakers let you turn it off (The Subaru I've ordered does), some you can't do anything about it. Such a bad thing for the engine. Anyway, great and honest review of it; and good to stress the massive difference between a real Bronco and the Bronco Sport.
I have the Ranger and you can turn it off. But it is not bad for the engine. The stop/start function has been throughly tested by Ford for years. it doesn't put any excessive wear on the vehicle, it actually helps. Sitting in traffic idling is worse. It wears out your engine parts, spark plugs, and is a waste of gas. It will also turn itself back on to maintain operating oil temperature if you choose to use it.
I wonder how well the teeth on the flex plate will last with the starter jabbing it every stoplight. Not cheap to replace. I think the crank bearings have different composition too, to handle all the extra starts, especially on rear main.
While 330hp is plenty of power for a vehicle this size, I still would much rather have the 3.5 ecoboost in it instead of the 2.7. Even if it was a last gen 3.5 with 365 hp, I just trust the 3.5s more than the 2.7s, as long as the water pumps are replaced when needed. I just prefer having a bigger engine that's less stressed than a smaller engine having to overwork itself.
You obviously haven’t been paying attention to the F150 forums! The 2.7 seems to be more reliable than the 3.5 or the Coyote! That 2.7 is Ford’s bread & butter engine and is in everything: cars, SUVs, vans and trucks (fleet, commercial, and regular)! The 3.5 is a premium offer and has far less objective data info in regards to longevity and reliability! The data that exists implies that the EB 2.7 is freaking bulletproof and is capable of handling double the HP!
@@Bacnow the 2.7 has only ever been available in 4 vehicles (F150, Fusion, Edge, Bronco) and only ever as an Ecoboost. The 3.5 has been available for 15 model years, as NA and EB, in at least 7 different models. THAT is their main engine, or at least it has been, and is quite solid if maintained as it should be.
"I just prefer having a bigger engine that's less stressed than a smaller engine having to overwork itself". Sounds like you need a Jeep Wrangler 392 !!!
@@johnlesica4657 oh hell nah, you'd never catch me buying a Jeep. I'd take a Bronco with a 1.5L Dragon over any jeep. I just want the 3.5 cause it's proven and reliable(ish) compared to the other motors offered. And with a decent exhaust sounds pretty damn good
Scotty I do believe it says 18.5 mpg in the screen because its averaging out the 200 hours of engine on time before you drove it. I bet if you reset it it would've come close to the 4 mpg you got in your Shelby. Awesome video as always!
@@kaniel_outis1 It would over time if Scotty had driven it for longer than he did. That fuel mpg was the average over 200 hours. If he reset and was flooring it everywhere it would be in the single digits easily
Mileage: On the highway I'm sure it does better than 18 mpg. I have that same 2.7L TT in my Edge, and granted it's probably not as heavy as the Bronco, but it gets 31 mpg if you keep the cruise engaged at 65-70 mph. I'm sure the Bronco could probably get at least 25 mpg cruising.
Have a jeep that’s over 20 years old. Just bought a ‘24 bronco and it broke down at 20 miles. It had 8 miles on it when I got it and I drove it a whole 12. It’s a cheap novelty imo.
The average mileage gauge is for the current trip, if you didnt reset or start a new trip it will average your mileage from whenever your started the trip, for most people, that is when they got the vehicle.
The average MPG is from the last time it was reset, so, if it was a long time before, your drives don't make a big difference. Reset by pressing the OK on the steering wheel while on that screen.
For the last 20 years, I've owned a 3/4 ton, 4WD, high ground clearance, 2000 (24 year old!) GMC. It has relatively low mileage, the engine runs perfectly, I can tow ANYTHING or pull anything out of anywhere, the interior and exterior are perfect, everything works, I've installed super long range LED headlamps, I installed a new "double DIN" entertainment system with GPS, the truck has just the basic engine management electronics (the truck isn't smarter than I am) and the truck will go anywhere the Jeeps or Broncos will. Of course, the gas mileage is terrible, but I can buy a LOT of gas for $90K and a Bronco doesn't get THAT much better mileage. A couple of years ago, friends bought a Bronco with a highly stressed turbo supercharged 4-banger, an engine I don't expect will last very long and they paid some hundreds over sticker. No, my old GMC is all I need or want.
Cool looking vehicle seemingly built on a solid platform. Questions I’d have before considering a purchase: Is the water pump internal like on the F-150? Can the engine start/stop system be deactivated so that it idles at stop lights rather than shut off? Is the a/c compressor electric rather than belt driven?
Water pump: Have to check. Start/stop has a dedicated deactivate button that you need to press everytime you turn it on. A/C belt driven I believe. -Bronco owner
I sheepishly haven’t looked at where/how my water pump or the ac compressor are set up. The auto start/stop can be turned off via a button… which is every time the vehicle is cycled. A tune or a forscan coding trip can set it off permanently. Love mine, but it’s a vehicle I’m glad has a warranty.
just wait until the hard top leaks water, theres a ton of problems with the hard top and convertable. they stopped making the hard top as of now and pushing it back until 2023.
Didn't Scotty tell us two months ago the Ford Bronco had faulty valves that were sourced out and were low quality? He told us some engines didn't last past 15k miles so he went out and bought one? He told us DO NOT BUY... So what gives Scotty ?
Boy Scotty sure loves his Fords. I worked at a Ford dealership and customers aren't really happy with the experience so far. And 0 to 60 in 10 seconds is embarrassing
If you order directly from ford you can get a maxed out one in the $60k range. I got a maxed out outerbanks with every option around 60. Mid range models go for 45.. if you can wait the 2 years to get it like I had to do.

You better change that oil with full synthetic every 3,000 miles or that 1.5 Is going to fall apart quick!
You are super proud of an inherently short-life engine platform.
@James Deam people on the Sport forums seem to be just fine doing it every 5,000-7,000. No major issues I’ve seen so far.
@@CadillacDriver lol ok psychic. Get back to me in a few years

Thumbs up!
It tells ya what the speed limit is, which we've just exceeded 🤣🤣🤣
and that's why I'm buying the sports
I used to have an '89 Jeep with a 4.2 inline 6 and it was torquey but low horsepower. Bulletproof engine and manual transmission.
My 99 Xj has 386,939 miles and it's just like new...New engine @371k. New remanufactured engine has a 5 year unlimited mileage warranty....lol
Ford had the inline six 300. It was the same, mine had almost 300,000 miles on it.
Strange, Broncos were never 4 door.
@@davebrown4841 I'm aware of that. I'm pretty sure they make new 2 door models. Og Broncos are the best though

Scotty is always so honest. Awesome reviews as always! 💯
I love how Shotty is on the phone making a video while driving and still drives better than a teenager on their phone.
50 years of driving experience vs 2 months. Of course teenagers aren’t the best drivers.
No wonder I've seen so many broncos on the street....this man's approval.
I thought Scotty hated new cars because they always had reliability problems that hadn't been ironed out yet?
I only buy Japanese cars.

It’s what I said in my post: it’s the excitement car lovers experience with vehicles. A vehicle gives us a natural adrenaline high.
i think he is being nice to this one so people buy the raffle tickets.
i just bought a cherry 1994 ford f-150 4x4 5.0 5 speed regular cab and short bed with only 108k original miles.
Okay, now I will wait for Scotty’s live show to hear what he really thinks of the Bronco 😉

Traded in my sport and won't miss it aside that MPG.
The fact that they put the owner's manual in the actual computer of the car is a really good idea beings whenever you need to look something up you're usually in the car already. I like that idea, plus owners don't have the excuse of "I lost it so I didn't know".

I like the new bronco and I think they’re made decently well, but the ecoboost engine and removable roof still sway me from wanting one of these.

As much as I like the looks and would love to get one, I won't. Fords quality control is awful right now and I just can't bring myself to trust them.
If it had a V-8, manual transmission, and was rear wheel drive then I might want one. You just can't beat Old School.

The 2-door can have a manual. no V8 yet tho. There are rumors of a upcoming raptor version.
I'm pretty sure the new generation bronco has rear wheel drive, it is an off roader
LOL,,,,,manual is available and yes it’s a rear wheel drive plus this v6 is more powerful than the old V8s back in the day.
Bronco Sport will do great as well. Very close to second gen Escape that everyone liked.
Nice car!
As for the refresh rate with MPGs, if I’m not mistaken, the longer it goes the slower it refreshes. On our Pacifica, after you reset it, it refreshes constantly and then gradually slows down. If not reset long enough, it seems like it never refreshes.
Actually, I reset it every time I flll up and if I stop when the pump shuts
off (as I usually do), the readout is very accurate (within 1 MPG either way).

That vehicle has lots going for it…
Nice video Scotty
Amazing a small engine with v8 fuel economy 😂.
My 4.6 gets better gas mileage and it's a heavier vehicle.
@@TheHawk--oe8iq if I keep my foot out of it I can get 23 mpg highway with my V8.
manufacturers are making engines small just to meet the regulation, not for the customer experience...

You are much better off with the 4 runner in my opinion.
My condolences
Imagine Bronco with the 4.0 V6 twin turbos..Oh Yea!!
You really don't need the turbos. Scotty says in other videos that turbos are bad for the internal components of an engine. They wear out the engines way faster. He says just get a normally asperated V8 (or V6).
few things you missed:
the entire interior is rubberized and designed so that you can literally just hose it out
doors are removable
mirrors are body mounted instead of door mounted so you still have mirrors with the doors removed
there are tons of kits/accessories that can be used on it
2dr variant can have a manual
also about the bronco sport: its basically a ford escape with bronco badges and some bronco features
It's good to see a full-sized spare tire.
Obama be damned..
I really like the new Bronco. I definitely look forward to buying one in the near future
this guy is hilarious simply while doing a car tour. love him🤣❤️
i love you too
TBH I kinda want the sport. I don't need a big SUV or truck. Just something to get me threw snow with some cargo space.
They need to have a really beefy starter and have the oil still circulating electronically somehow if they intent to do the start stop thing.
@@archiethedog4515 why wouldn’t they?
@@guppygb6078 It is bad for the engine. That's a fact. Definitely wears out the starter
I wonder how well the teeth on the flex plate will last with the starter jabbing it every stoplight. Not cheap to replace. I think the crank bearings have different composition too, to handle all the extra starts, especially on rear main.
Auto start and stop has been around for over 20 years. And I’ve had 0 problems problems with one car that’s 15 years old.
And with a decent exhaust sounds pretty damn good
yeah, I would love a Bronco but the ones I have seen for sale are like $70k after the dealers have added their mark up .
Scotty I do believe it says 18.5 mpg in the screen because its averaging out the 200 hours of engine on time before you drove it. I bet if you reset it it would've come close to the 4 mpg you got in your Shelby. Awesome video as always!
I was thinking the same.
It should updating automatically though
@@kaniel_outis1 It would over time if Scotty had driven it for longer than he did. That fuel mpg was the average over 200 hours. If he reset and was flooring it everywhere it would be in the single digits easily
He's obviously unaware of instant fuel economy vs average fuel economy!
Thank ya Scotty for pointing out the sparse similarities to a bronco sport
Your consistency and quality of content never disappoints! ❤️
I've read so far about 48 of them at least with the 2.7 that have blown up with around 2,000-3,000 miles on them.
I just got mine. A 2 door, badlands cyber orange with the manual. It is so fun to drive, and so much better then the Jeeps lol
With the kind of gas mileage that it is getting, couldn't Ford just as likely shoehorned a 5.0 into it achieving just about the same stats?
I would say so, not gonna have a Jeep 392 competition until a 5.0 is in there
Haha
The average MPG is from the last time it was reset, so, if it was a long time before, your drives don't make a big difference. Reset by pressing the OK on the steering wheel while on that screen.
Your grandson who bought the bmw also has an f100? He’s got taste!
Timing belt vs timing chain?
Water pump: Have to check. Start/stop has a dedicated deactivate button that you need to press everytime you turn it on. A/C belt driven I believe. -Bronco owner
I sheepishly haven’t looked at where/how my water pump or the ac compressor are set up. The auto start/stop can be turned off via a button… which is every time the vehicle is cycled. A tune or a forscan coding trip can set it off permanently.
Love mine, but it’s a vehicle I’m glad has a warranty.
The water pump is not internal in the 2.7 ecoboost
Water pump is not internal on the f150
Congratulations Scotty way better than a Toyota
Engine off/on is optional on almost all vehicles, I have a rav4 2021 and you can turn this feature off
