Everything I know I learned as an older man from Justin. Whatever I do well I owe to him. Now an intermediate I am going back through the beginner course to shore up the details and identify my weak spots. Probably more important is the kindness and decency that is part of everything he does. That is an overarching lesson being taught by a great practitioner in all of his work. He makes me want to be better, not just as a player, but as a human. Thanks for everything, Justin. Peace.

+JustinGuitar Songs How Much Does It Take To Fully Learn An Electric Guitar.... And Could I Learn Electric Guitar Directly Or Do I Have To First Learn The Acoustic one???
May I answer your questions You do not have to learn acoustic in order to be able to play E-Guitar. Some things are easier on acoustic and some things are easier on E-Guitar(it's easier for me to play chords on acoustic(the frets are wider, there is more space between the Strings) while everything else seems to be easier on E-Guitar(so far ;) )). And I guess you will never be able to say you "fully learnt" E-Guitar, just like a language .. you may say you can speak it fluently but you can not say you have fully learnt it.
Thanks Justin for teaching not just the song and notes itself, but combining it with making us understand anything behind the progressions and so on. Hope your family is fine! Take care mate.
Thank you very much, for this perfect How To Play!! And thanks for the great tips. Just starting to play the electric guitar again after a break of aprox.. 2 years. You are helping me getting better really fast! Thank you!!!
Xcellent lesson! Those arpeggiated c g and f shapes after the Am lick are hard for me. Can someone hear what is going on right before the Bm to D to A to E (chords of the solo)
Hello Justin, this is a great song tutorial and I'm waiting for the solo tutorial too. I have a request for a lesson to avoid unwanted string noise during playing bendings, hammer on and all that kind of stuff. I' m allways struggeling when I play melody lines or trying to find out some melodies that are in my head or cover some melodic stuff then I'm not really able to avoid those unwanted string noise. Those string noise made some things sound really horrible. If you have some tips and could show us some techniques i would really appreciate that lesson. Keep the good work. And many thanks for all you did until now. You're the one from who i learned the most. Thank you for that.
Awesome tutorial Justin, thank you. I was actually just learning this one the other night but I was having trouble getting the bass line with the guitar just right. I'm glad you uploaded this. Hopefully I'll be able to refine on a bit of the techniques you used to make it all come together. Great video again man. And a great song by a great band. Cheers!
I have a Hal Leonard book on this album and if I am not mistaken the part which you call the bass line is in there as actual part of the guitar line. My guitar books are in storage so I can't check it out right now. Thanks for making this video. Did you make a video of Funky Monks yet? I used to just love playing the rhythm part of that song until my fingers cramped up.
Really liked this tutorial but my only confusion was that I can't hear any strumming during the solo of the song .The only thing i hear during the original solo is the John solo and Flea on the bass which is why I didn't understand what Justin meant by "Chords for the solo" at 14:15 ?
I don't think anyone's actually playing these chords unless there's an overdubbed guitar or something, but those are the chords that are implied by what Flea and John are playing.
+JustinGuitar Songs i find this very difficult. i even struggle with learning songs that have basic open chords by ear. Should i learn something else before i start attempting to learn songs by ear?
+Tom Evans Actually, me being a huge Coldplay fan for more than a decade, I know the actual way(Johnny's way) of playing. I can play yellow(the tab for last part is inaccurate), shiver(most people plays wrong entirely and nobody plays correctly with the solo), Viva la vida(which Johnny only plays on live so no one covers it), clock(both album version (also played on live until 2008) and the different live version played from then) and a sky full of stars(nobody plays the tiny guitar outright anyway...). I guess my next job is to figure out how Johnny plays it! Personally, I'm going through university entrance exam so after everything has settled down, I guess my job is to upload covers and tabs on UA-cam! XD Sorry for my bad English. I'm just a Japanese student.
+Tom Evans P.S. Some people say that "there's Coldplay official tab book!" ,but actually, some parts are quite wrong. I have the entire series of official tab book.
chords for solo f#m d7 f#m d7 &bm &d &a &e *2 then &bm &d &a &e *2 (the &'s mean that u play it for half as long as the non &'s before u transition, so d7 is held normal and all the &'s are half the non&'s.
Any tips on how i hit all the lines in the intro part without accidentally muting every other string haha. I have naturally long nails and i cant really use the absolute tip so they are a bit flat. Then i cant bend my fingers enough to create a big space to prevent muting. Gaaaah. By the way i play on an acoustic.
Tasty tune. I always remember what you said in another video. "Play it slow til you get it right or you will be playing fast crap." Too true. lol. Thanks for the lesson.
Great lesson, Justin. I'm going to play this song with some friends, and your tutorial let me save a lot of listening job to find the right sounds and groove. Thank you very much!!
I like that he goes the extra mile to get the original stuff......John did this, John does that, etc. etc. doing all that extra research really helps you avoid sounding like a noob lol.
I love RHCP's and I really wanted to learn this song. My fingers are a little too short to be able to stretch across three frets, so it took a bit of practice but I got it now! Thank you this video! Even if you posted it 4 years ago!
I really struggle with the 1 e and a 2 e thing. Going to down up down up. I cant help but making pauses instead of keeping constant motion. Feeling like never gonna dance again.

When you put Justin on .5 speed and he sounds absolutely hammered haha love it. Thanks for the lesson.
Thanks Justin for teaching not just the song and notes itself, but combining it with making us understand anything behind the progressions and so on. Hope your family is fine! Take care mate.
My mission in life is to learn every song by RHCP on guitar. Fuckin love em.
I held off on listening to them because they seemed overrated, needless to say I'm glad I gave them a chance ;)

+Lars de Waardt Bro I hope you know those Hal Leonard books never get the song right.
+Christian Chavez I agree there are some mistakes in their books, they are basically a guideline.

I didn't know Fabio Cannavaro is playing guitar.
I kept playing with barred F, no wonder it sounded different.

Any tips on how i hit all the lines in the intro part without accidentally muting every other string haha. I have naturally long nails and i cant really use the absolute tip so they are a bit flat. What if your fingers are too fat
Liposuction? ;)
get a special guitar with a fat neck
+JustinGuitar Songs you've come along way i remember around 8 years ago u were just getting started with tutorials. Keep the good work up
Play bass
Play it on a Gibson instead of a fender. Or find a 50's to 60's style strat neck.
I quite liked you singing the solo to be honest, sounded pretty cool
+WasaNic Where does he sing the solo?
Nice to see another Wu Tang fan trying to learn some RHCP
Wow, you're also a Nic with a Wu Tang profile picture??
Protect your neck
Truuu very nice singing 😀
Maybe you can do Dani california
learnt it
loved it
used it
shared it
so thanks alot man
Sounds so complicated, yet so easy to play and still impossible for me to master. ;)
This is the version I was looking for!
The bass part completed it all and also reminds me the way snow hey oh is played
Great lesson, Justin.

Aren't you only suppose to pick down...
john no
In the Am-Fmaj7 “pre chorus” part I’ve definitely heard John throw the add9 on the F in live shows.
I love that sound!
