I joind AFC Harrogate in september 99 it was the best move i ever did as a 16 year old it sorted me right out ! its hard at times but if your street wise and can take banter you will be fine ! if you dont like working alongside people or think you will miss your family to much then dont bother going ! but remember mummy and daddy wont be there forever so just give it a go you will love it !
my advice to you as I recently passed out I was in Burma company 22 platoon 3 section sept 25th to 17th august was my intake date to stick it out work on your fitness also practice tabbing if your short like me you will struggle its worth it I go to Catterick very soon oh and you will love bayonet 2 :)(im joining PWRR once I finish catterick)
i was at the afc in 2000 before it was all knocked down and rebuilt, new camp is great but wait till u get to cattrick ohhhhh ur in for a shock i served in the argyle and sutherland highlanders now called 5 scots, stick at it kids its the best thing u will do in ur life.
i tell you know my dad showed me this and I got to say when im 16 im defo going to visit and see what its like plus if I go there its like a school its so awesome I cant wait till I go
i know how you feel. actually passed out of harrogate but got medically discharged 6 months later and i wish now i'd got my leg sorted and been back in by now.
Jack cormack He will still be there. There are 2 courses, the short and long courses. The short one is 6 months and the long one is 12 months- it depends on your role as to which one you take.
When did this lot get issued their berets? It seems to me they think they've gained an automatic place in their capbadge as they've been issued certain berets which change from one individual to another.
The padre is actually talking sense. Special dietary requirement rat packs are better quality than standard issue. Though the new issue rat packs is all round generally shit.
i went on a open day as my sister is joining and some of the js were messing around kicking puddles at each other just didnt look that professional, still got a lot of respect for them!
haha aye para training is hard, but cheers for the advice mate, hope when you recover you can pick up where you left off with your Army career, all the best pal :)
if there is anyone going in to apply,GOOD LUCK to you :) i am applying in march and will be in by SEPTEMBER 2012.down side is i live in spain so i have got to go back for the interview, barb tests e.t.c but hay i want it so im going for it...
junior soldiers wanting to join the paras recieve their regimental head dress with the green card behind the cap badge after after passing the drill test to be shaped in time for the passing in parade at the end of the first 6 weeks, where college head dress is replaced with regimental.
is it true you dont get you regiment beret till after 32 weeks now instead of 6 weeks cuz i got a place for january and want my para beret so bad :) :)
@1doddsy1 can you tell me what its like ? Im wanting to join up later next year. Im 16 on june 3rd and i do lots like cadets and stuff, many thanks mate
Why have some of the guys got their maroon berets on? Is that cause they've done p company already. I'm applying for it in June, to hopefully start at catterick so I'm interested to know?
+mystery gamer117 infantry is long course and i don't think theres an raf pilot course at harrogate (not sure); and you need to decide which course to do when you apply. just some advice. :-)
Erazy Ctazy234 air corps is flying army helicopters. Not sure if linked to the raf but being in the air corps is not the same as being an raf pilot. Not entirely sure though. Maybe look at the British army website? Sorry. 😄
@Knightwars4 They do a drill test early on in their time there after passing that they earn the right to wear the barnet covers of the regiment they have decided to join. You do a the same test if you do senior entry. Although quiet clearly nobody has taught them how to shape a beret my CSM would go nuts at some of those HLS looking beret's
This is lovely- as you say Jolly Good! (and I say that too) Fuck my stupid lie of a country of America- I love England like its my own true real home and my love goes all the way from the history to the soldiers to the many amazing bands and artists your country has produced who have been a huge inspiration in my musical journeys. Thumbs Up Greatest Britain!
@1doddsy1 yeah brother done harrogate in 08 intake 21 hes based in tidworth 1RHA dads just left army after 23 years so yeah im defo goin in haha. i live in upavon camp aswell.
Whats it really like in the army mate? I got told they make harrogate all nice and cushy for you so you don't leave and then when you graduate and are stuck in for 3 - 4 years, You get treat like absolute shit. Don't get me wrong, I'm not soft, I can hold my own but I got told shit loads of bullying goes on in the army also. I actually did apply back in 2010 when I left school and was going to be put in the Rifles, I wanted to be a para but I wasn't fit enough at the time.
@ThatGamersCommunity Im there atm lol its alright.. NOTHING LIKE CADETS !! when you join forget the cadets cuz in my platoon all the ppl that have been kicked out are cadets cuz they have old habbits when you come just do wot they tell you and it'll be all good :)
@1doddsy1 hopefully next Sept mate :) doing my B.A.R.B. test in november / december. Then the 36 hour Army training day to see if i pass the Army standards like with health and fitness :)

Although quiet clearly nobody has taught them how to shape a beret my CSM would go nuts at some of those HLS looking beret's
yh they can just thought that when they saw a huge group of visitors walk past they would try and look professional.
