Hi , Chris , I cannot tell you how your video has changed the way I throw a cast net and made me so much more productive, I am 60 yrs old and have lived on salt water all my life, I will be honest, I've been doing it wrong for 45 years! Lol. I catch more mullet thanks to you and your video, Thsnks brother!!!
Same . I just end up throwing it like 5 feet away from the bait ball and it’s always wants to land in a line . My brain can’t figure out how to let go of the rest of the net yet I guess but I haven’t had a lot of practice but today made me realize I needed it . Danke for your video
Thanks for sharing this I just got a gs1500 7' foot 1.5 pounds taped net. I even did a video like yours. Because of you I realized all these years I have been having my cuff on the wrong hand, I heard you say should be on your strong arm. You saved me .
The thing that did it for me is to remember all the loops u make with both the line and net go from the back of your right hand to the front of your right hand easy method thanks for the post. 👍
Wow i like that technique just wish my net was that lite. I have a 1.5lb per foot net and it is heavy i'm still learning to cast it. ill try that style tomorrow.
I have tried a few different ways to throw a net . This video helped me alot Thank you . I actually had rotator cuff surgery 2 months ago & needed to throw with my weak arm . In about 1/2 hr i had it down pretty good. You said your not spinning the net & after trying that it worked well for me . Also for me the last piece of lead line you hold in your other hand i had to hold that low like my arm is down by my side . That helped it open up better in my situation. Maybe that can help someone else.
about a year ago i was working a 6ft net and only 6 months ago i figured it out ive grown about 5 inches and my dad decide it would be a good idea to get me a 12ft 😅 so far its only caused me problems and been annoying, but ill definitely try out this technique. awesome vid
your ganna like this method right away, the trick is the last bunch of weights over your cast hand, it has alot to do with how it opens and how fast. you got this.
I've just received a 16 ft cast net. I've heard that it's easier to pancake than a smaller diameter one, although I haven't used one yet in my life. I'll soon practice on a grass field before heading out for action.
@JohnnyRingo My bad, it turns out that the net isn't that big. Whilst rated at 16 ft, I'd reckon that it has a maximum diameter of 2 m. Damn Chinese brands!
Very good video. I saw another captain who puts appx 25 percent of the net and weights in his left hand in addition to grabbing the line with his thumb. You just grab the line with your thumb and no net. I’m sure you’ve tried both, wondering your thoughts between the two subtle differences.
Thank you and honestly it will defer with each person. I tried that and would over through the net. You just have to try both and use whichever one fits you best.
I am planning to buy a Black Pearl CG-XTS 8' 1/4" 1.6lb cast net and was wondering which of your throwing method would apply between your 6' and 10' methods? Thanks.
I follow every move that you made with your right hand. I am lefty. when I go to throw the net it does not open for me. I am practicing on my grass in front of my house, Why does the net not open for me.?
Hey Chris VERY informative video BUT the rotation thing WILL never work for nor the pull back in fused lower back they took away ANY rotation I WOULD have had and replaced it with titanium screws AND rods and plastic and dead guy bone cement. BUT I got 14 year old grandson that's Purdy limber STILL SO Santa Claus maybe gettin him his OWN personal castnet to catch me er I mean HIM OUR catfish bait I'm going to forward HIM this video hey been fishing the Ohio river twice in 24hrs AND caught fish nice blue last night AND a 30 inch flathead today and the always elusive french fish the chanel catfish they seem to be liking those bluegill heads and I'm cutting the bluegill bodys into that Dieter Melhorn flutter fillets 😂 got both my BIG fish on em BTW. THANKS for the videos and useful information I was on the Ohio river last night when you did your live broadcast. PEACE OUT Chris. 🐝🐟😎🐟😎🐟🐝
Hey Chris are we gettin a tackle Tuesday tonight? I've got to head Mt. Orab but I'll watch it tonight when I get back. PEACE OUT Chris and thanks for the videos and useful information. 🐝😎🐟😎🐟😎🐟😎🐝
I been trying to teach my buddy to throw a 10’ it looks like spider man shooting a web across the water he doesn’t listen I’ll send him this video lol 😆
Tried this. Been throwing for 20 years. This method had the net landing 4 feet in front of me in a big ass pile. Scared every fish off from here to key west.. Edit: how are yall handling the entire weight of the net resting all in one hand. My net is heavy as hell at 8 ft especially after my first throw when it's saturated. Help.
This only work with small nets, hence you only see little kids and new people throw this way and it never open all the way so an 8ft net turned to 6ft. You ever see fishermen use this technique? Nope because he would go home on his first day

I love the fact that you told us you were right handed at the beginning of the video. Other videos on cast net basics never do that.
Glad to hear it was helpful and you enjoyed it
Been using the over the shoulder technique for years. Tried this after watching your video, and my life is changed 😂. Thanks for the demo 🤙🏻
Haha awesome love hearing things like this!! Thanks for letting me know and thanks for watching!

Chris you just taught a 58yr old how to get it done, pancake 3rd try. The best!! Thank you!!
I have a 10 ft net that I had almost given up on. Tried this technique and opening every time!! Thanks Chris.
Awesome buddy glad to hear that!!

Did you put fabric softener on that net and if so what brand and how long did you let it soak
No I don’t do that I just get them wet and let them hang. To stretch them out. Thanks for watching
How do you still like those nets. Or would you recommend something different like bait busters
Is the net tape
Still love them

How do you know when to retrieve the net ? Thank you for sharing!
Hardly 10 seconds. Depends on the depth of water and weight of net(stone). The heavier the net it sinks quick.
Thank you 😊
What is the name of this picnic technique.
Not really sure it has a name but thanks for watching hopefully it helps
Great technic !
