It's kind of mind-blowing that when you're in Darwin, you're just as close to Manila in the Philippines as you are to Melbourne. Oz is big.
A hint - pick your fruit and veg (especially the lettuce etc.) from the back of the shelf. It’s the newest and freshest.

Definitely a shitty move
Quite a few U tuber’s are good at presentation and commentary but I find the both of you the most natural in front of the camera. Perhaps that’s why you are so popular amongst Aussies. You’re ’True Blue’ as we like to say, because you are not ‘fake’ or posers ( apart from ‘The big things’ lol. ) - and you both ooze honesty and integrity.
Yep - you are more than OK by Aussie standards. So if you are tempted to immigrate here please do so.
The only thing would be to let the Aussie accent come naturally. All attempts of Aussie accents are almost all cringeworthy to us! lol. Stay safe.

The food here in Darwin is unreal, Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, and everything else you could imagine. The all you can eat seafood places are so good, where else in Australia would you get unlimited seafood buffets for $60.

This year, Darwin marks the 50th anniversary of Cyclone Tracey, which flattened the city on Christmas Day 1974. Remembering the pictures of the aftermath, I think they've done a pretty good job of rebuilding, from nearly scratch. Good on Mazda for how they reacted to the carpark prang and good on that driver for leaving details. Keep up the great videos!

Im nearly 80 & did a coach camping trip around Australia when in my 20's. You guys bring back sooo many memories. Darwin was a mess, we were the first coach in & out of Darwin after Tracey, counted both ways I might add. I really cant believe how much everything has changed.

LOL. When Tia was explaining about the wider road and more lanes (at 5:30), Cheveyo made the mistake of saying she hasn't driven since arriving at Darwin. And when Tia appeared to be upset at the retort, Cheveyo quickly changed the topic to the quality of the mic. Slick move but I am experienced enough in life to see that move.

As someone who lives next door to Tijuana in San Diego and very familiar with the menu at Guzman Y Gomez, I can tell you that their food is legit. Not quite the same as the amazing tacos we get on the street, but far from bad and I'll gladly eat there when I'm in Australia.

I doubt anyone thinks Cheveyo would go into a shop and start shouting for a refund. Way too laid back. It's one of the reasons you fit into the Aussie lifestyle so well. I reckon those comments were just people projecting what they would do (or imagine they would like to do) in that situation. I'm glad getting the refund was easy as.

Gyz was started by Steven Marks, a New Yorker who with some funds behind him, dreamed of setting up a Mexican restaurant that centred and simple and fresh.
He opened his first restaurant in Newtown, Sydney in 2006 and did his best to hire as many Mexican as he could find (my best mate from Mexico worked in that very restaurant & the stories from the early days are awesome). Side note: there are only 4000 Mexicans noted in the Australian census & we are 20 hours flight away which makes it all the more difficult to get Aussies to understand.
Next plans are big. Already GYG has expanded big into Japan. They have a prime location in Harajuku among other places.
And they have started opening across other Asian locations and the US.
Goal for next few years is to expand to 300 US locations.
So Steven Marks has effectively looped back to his home country via a lot of experience from down under.
Hi Guys, GYG was started in Sydney by an American from NY. Personally, their menu was far better 10 years ago than it is today, more variety including barramundi fish tacos. If you see MadMex anywhere in your travels around Australia give them a try.
Yes it’s tasty but most of what we have here is Tex Mex or Cali Mex.
Tia and Cheveyo will understand what I’m talking about. 😉
I love Guzman y Gomez, my hubby sometimes works night shift, and on the last night shift morning he brings home brekky boritos. Sunshine Coast Qld 😋 love your videos, you both remind me of hubby and myself in many ways, we're older 😊

A handy hint when parking new vehicles in supermarket parking areas.
Park well away from the actual entrance to the store. People in a hurry or lazy will always park as close to entrance as possible and throw their doors open carelessly.
( It’s usually time poor mums )
If you can park next to another new late model car! They will always take due care - opening doors and parking
I thoroughly enjoyed that video guys. It showed us another dimension to your relationship and the decisions that we all take for granted like weather or not you can afford to but a bigger box of porridge/oatmeal or how you have to share one packet for breakfast.
Also as you said the amount of behind the scenes work that goes into making your videos that we love so much. You 2 are my favourite Americanos by far and away. You break to stereotypical view we have of Americans and do your country proud.

Bugger, I was contemplating flying north to Darwin this week for a fortnight of weeks to escape the cold and wet conditions of the NSW South Coast. You will have to do breakfast at Salvatores Cafe in Knuckey St, if you haven't left already. You commented a while back that you were worried that no one would turn up at a meet and great, Me thinks you may be mistaken.

I am in Darwin, up from regional NSW. It's a very humid July, nice at night but definitely not the good weather in July Darwin used to get. We watched the sunset at Mindil Beach at the markets on Sunday, we looked out for you two. That used to be our local Woollies when we lived in Darwin city for 5 years. We are off to see the baby crocs at Crocodlyus Park tomorrow, so we hope you get to see that place or crocodarus cove in the city. You can watch people in the cage of death, from a viewing window.

That instant porridge has the oatmeal chopped up finely, in order to make it absorbent enough to be instant. The problem with that is that it cuts the fibres so finely that they change from long-chain to short-chain. With short-chain being of so little benefit that you may as well not be eating cereals.

Hi from Los Angeles, Cali. Thanks for another video. You come to Darwin remind us during between 1980-1990 many Vietnamese try escape from Vietnam to this port, because those years many others countries like Thailand, Malayar close refugee camp.

Pro tip- always stock up dry goods in cities. It will be way cheaper than buying it out of the city and it generally lasts long enough that you’ll eventually eat it. Worst case you donate to a food pantry at the end of your trip, but you have long enough left that this is very unlikely.
Maybe buy a plastic tub to put all the dry food in and place in the tray of the Ute.
When you were shopping, see the tuna next to the John West tuna that you purchased? It's in a yellow and red can and its called Sirena tuna - once you have that, you'll never eat any other brand of tuna again. It's so so good.

If you do avoid the roadworks south of Red Hill. An A-Triple took out our car's windscreen a few weeks ago there in an 80k construction zone. Done Pt Augusta - Adelaide several hundred times over 50 years and this is the first one ever that's cracked for me.
GYG is the best Mexican chain in Australia, I used to live near their first restaurant before they expanded and they always had Mexican staff so I guess while it’s not true Mexican style it still has a lot of Mexican influence on it.
Love GyG! We grew up on Old El Paso home cooked taco kits in Aus. Nice to have good eateries now.

Don’t chuck that little mic out, it is very likely easily fixable. Mist of those mics use electret mic capsules that are cheap and easily replacable. You will need a soldering iron however.
The capsules can be bought from suppliers like Radio Spares, Element 14/Farnell, Mouser or Wagner Electronic Services.
Most capsules sold are omnidirectional and cost just a few dollars but you might require a unidirectional one (it has holes in the back to let the soun in from the back) and these are a little harder to find.
Those mics, as is, usually contain two or three electret capsules and by phasing them correctly this is how they get their directionality.
If you come down to Hobart, I will attempt to fix it if you like.
Making preparations and provisioning for a trip/adventure is definitely part of the fun, I can totally relate with Tia on that sentiment.
Similar to how the week leading up to Christmas Day is so much more festive than the actual day itself in many cases.

Visited Darwin last year, at the same time you guys did actually, and loved it. Nona's, Mindil Beach Sunset, amazing Asian food. We were actually going to go to Litchfield the same day, but decided to go the next day. Luckily I was looking up info on the park before we left and read what had happened.
Fun style of video and enjoyable watch! Definitely seems like a stressful few days with the car damage, air pump, credit card and new mic (for Tia). Hope you two get some good rest and peace of mind before hitting the road again.
As a Melbourian, don't worrying about upsetting people here. They can be sensitive about it but we need to hear it! Many people who'd be salty never even been to Darwin. I haven't but have heard how good their Asian food is from friends who have gone.

Hey! Great video! I’m a big fan of the traditional vlog with the BTS sprinkled in. Cool to see a little of your filming process and philosophy. Thanks for sharing. Any insight is always appreciated. It’s comforting to see even the pros have to do multiple takes too. But if I had a dollar for everytime I just hobbled one take full of mess ups and verbal pauses into a jump cutted mess…
The sound with the Sennheiser is more clear in Luna, less road noise. I always thought your audio sounded quite good. Those Sony hot shoe shotgun mics are awesome (we’re currently using the ECM-G1). Voice isolation in FCP helps a lot too. What made you guys make the switch to the larger mic that you have to plugin into the input jack? I don’t think I could go back to the traditional vlog shotgun mic. I don’t miss the bulk with the shock mounts at all!
On a final note. Your color grading is always great. Skin tones always look natural and the rest of the colors look nicely saturated and balanced. Sorry for the long gushing comment, but you guys are a huge influence and my wife and I adore your work.

While in Darwin ... just remain aware ... especially at night. It's reputation right now isn't the best. However, as you know when traveling ... being unaware of your surroundings isn't the smart way to go.

Agree on Asian food in Darwin. Out of Sydney, Brisbane and Darwin it has been my favorite capital city by far. I found it to be so much more chill. I'd love to go back for a longer visit. I love Far North Queensland where I live but Darwin is a great vacation spot.

As an Aussie baby boomer, I have to say that I really enjoy your interpretation of our culture and your laidback descriptions of our landscapes. Love the new mic. From my end, it is crisp, clean and clear. Audio is often one of the hardest aspects of vlogging to get right. You have nailed it. Great investment!
At Woolworths and Coles, you can take the bread to the bakery and ask them to run it through the bread slicer, for no extra charge. Saves you needing a bread knife. If you want nice bread that's presliced, try Abbotts. Both the White and Multigrain are the best IMO.
If you love Hommus, Yumi's is waay better than Willow and also comes in large tubs :)
We've only had Guzman once, it was a terrible experience (Super oily meat and dips, no flavour, cold.. just bad). Might be too biased from that bad experience but haven't gone back. Partner is from Canada so when Taco Bell tried again (3rd time) here in Australia, we instantly took to that haha .. again more bias
Another great video, the more content the better, even if its BTS, loving seeing parts of Aus I'll probably not visit myself.
I buy Sourdough and Pane De Casa loaves all the time from Woolies, Coles or IGA I never buy it or get it sliced especially when we are on the road because it goes stale quicker. I hate it when I buy a loaf and open the bag only to find that they have sliced it. Probably ok if you are going to eat within a day or so but on the road we often buy multiple loaves when we reach a larger population center and sometimes they could sit around for a week. We lived in South Africa for a year back in the 90s and all the bread you bought in a supermarket was unsliced, they had a slicing machine on the other side of the checkouts and if you wanted it sliced you did it yourself. Australia has become a nanny state where people are not credited with having any common sense so no doubt there would be some health or safety law that would prevent you from doing that.

@@comedyzone get of your high horse I pointed out that in our experience having also covered over 40,000kms in the last 2 years that sliced bread may not always be your best option when on the road especially in the more remote areas. What you told them was not incorrect or bad advice but keep in mind services offered in supermarkets in bigger cities are not always available in the smaller population centers. Even here in the suburb where we live at our local Woolies the bakery products are usually thawed or heated the shelves are stacked and then that section is left unmanned. The comment I made about our South African experience was just a matter of interest where we had another option to slice our own - I really should have left it out because obviouslty it wasnt that interesting. By the way the comment about being a nanny state wasnt meant to be a political statement it was a tongue in cheek swipe at the bureacratic red tape that probably wouldnt let us do something like that anyhow. I know exactly what they are doing been following them since they arrived in Perth and bought Blueberry read my other comment on this video its one of the first on the list.
