Roy had a tragic life. He died in his 50's from a coronary, lost his wife in a car accident and his sons in a fire. All of his contemporaries admired his unique voice and amazing range. In 2014 I was riding in a bus in Italy when this came on the radio and the whole bus was singing and dancing along!!! You can't sit still to this beat!
Roy himself didn´t consider his life more tragic than that of any other person. He often says in interview he had even more great years than those two tragic ones.
His performance doing Crying alone or with K.D. Lange is phenomenal! He is one of the greatest singers ever. Elvis and Roy were good friends said Roy's voice was the best he ever heard.
An incredible talent! Roy Orbison was one of a kind and like other super stars, he was a rare gem whose music was respected by his peers. Great reaction, ladies!
Roy Orbison, a LEGEND in Rock'n Roll and one of the Best singers. I often feel Roy made Rock'n Roll one of the best genres of music. A lot of movies has his songs. Miss him dearly.
Roy Orbison is one of the legendary singers of early rock and roll. He has a great catalog of songs to explore. The song "Pretty Woman" is a great place to start. It is the song he is best known for and his signature song. An absolute classic. Once again, Momma Gap and I share the same taste. "Pretty Woman" is also my favorite Roy Orbison song.
Please forgive me for being long-winded here, but this song holds a special place in my heart. I used to perform with other local musicians in a monthly small-town music jam. The founder of the jam, a man named Harley, was a huge Roy Orbison fan (was about the same age) and played this at every event. I always sang harmony for him and looked forward to it. My son heard us play several times and when he finally heard this recording, his jaw hit the floor, "That's Harley!" I said, "No, but Harley's not far off, is he!" Sadly, Harley passed away several months ago and I will never again be able to back him on this song. Rest in peace, brother.
Roy wrote this song with his friend Bill Dees in 1964. It was a huge world hit then & re-released in 1990 for the Movie of the same name. He received a posthumous Grammy in 1991 for his live performance of this song for his HBO Special Roy Orbison & friends, A Black & White Night. He was one of the Greats.
Orbison is a legend. A movie "Roy Orbison and Friends: A Black and White Night" is a perfect representation of how revered he was. Back up musicians included (there were more i Forgot).... T-Bone Burnett/ Bruce Springsteen/ Elvis Costello/ Tom Waits Backup singers Jackson Browne - Bonnie Raitt - k.d. Lang - Jennifer Warnes And the celebrities in the audience were A list all. It was recorded and released about a year before he died. Many musicians/singers that could fill a concert hall on their own... playing backup ... and awed to be there.
Perhaps one of the most iconic songs ever performed. The movie Pretty Woman, skyrocketed this song and gave it a second life far bigger than its original. Much the same way as the movie Ghost gave the Righteous Bros. Unclaimed Melody a huge second life.
Roy wasn't part of the original "Million Dollar Quartet", which was actually just a 1 time event; Dec. 4, 1956, when Elvis, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis & Carl Perkins, bumped into each other, at Sun Records. They were chatting & impromptu, began singing around a piano. Thankfully, someone recorded part of that audio, which later, people began calling The Million Dollar Quartet Session. 21 years later, Dec. 1977, on the Johnny Cash Show, Johnny, Jerry Lee, Carl & Roy, recreated the "MDQ", to honor Elvis, by singing "This Train." I don't know if these 4 did later performances as the "MDQ", but in 1985, they did do an album as such, to honor Sun Records/Sam Phillips.
My mom had brown eyes, and when I was a little boy I heard my dad sing "beautiful beautiful brown eyes" over and over to her. (There actually was a song back then that he was using, but in that song the eyes were blue). Well it wasn't until I was quite a bit older that I heard the original song, and realized dad had changed the words from blue to brown for my mom. I miss "em both, but plan on seeing them someday in the not so distant future. Really enjoy your channel, thank you.
How come I missed this one month ago?!.. Noticed it only now - but wow, what a gorgeous song! I remember back in 1990 I had to learn that Orbison grrrrooooowl after I first heard this song (but maybe also after Traveling Wilburys' "Rattled", where he does the same thing), ha ha!.. Great memories of the past )) And foxy dance moves again, ladies! )))
He has won numerous Grammy Awards for his songwriting/singing. He is listed #37 of the Greatest Artists of All-time and #13 on the list of the 100 greatest singers of all time. Started in 60's in rockabilly & country-western genre. Between '60 and '66 he had 22 singles in the Top 40, including: only the lonely, dreams and Pretty Woman. Some rough times in the 70's but rebounded in popularity in the 80's with several covers of some of his songs. In '88 he co-founded The Travelin' Wilburys - and died in Dec '88. A month later his single "You Got It" was released and went into the Top 10. He wore dark suits and dark sunglasses to hide his shyness and stage fright. He is a true music icon and legend with an operatic voice that is clear and smooth with very good range and tone control.
you ladies need to listen to this song done live at the black and white concert. it has a bunch of legends backing up roy. springsteen ,james burton, kd land, jackson browne ,just to name a few. you won't regret it. you ladies are my new favorite reaction channel
Good song choice reaction. Love The Big 'O' Roy Orbison. Love his music, classic. You should react to the 'Traveling Wilburys with Roy Orbison in it. 👍👍❤ R.I.P. Roy Orbison.
"A pretty woman never needs any money" was what the co-writer told Roy when he asked his wife Claudette if she needed any shopping money. Yes, many people associate Oh, Pretty Woman with the movie and what woman would not want to be also associated with it (GGR should know). 1964, The Beatles and The British Invasion, and yet this song was a strong #1 for 3 weeks around September (it was his only #1 hit, on the radio all the time). Roy did have earlier hits and was known for what people describe as an operatic voice. As Iconic As It Comes. :)
I loved hearing mom's "fantasy"; that was the best 🤩. I always thought about it the same way you described when it was popular again because of the movie and I was a mere 20 something gal. And when I hear it now at 58, it makes me feel the same way; confident I could still live that fantasy 😂! ! !
K D Lang also did a solo version that not only stands up to Roy, but, to some peoples ears, even surpasses Roy's version. Check out her tribute to Roy from MTV Unplugged... ua-cam.com/video/JNbnFVBVnz0/v-deo.html
Listening to Crying with Roy Orbison and k.d. Lang is a must. Orbison claimed to have written this as the result of an encounter he had with an old flame with whom he was still in love. He refused to say how much she meant to him, and when he ran into her again it was too late.
So many of the reactors use tracks from an Orbison concert in the 90 s , I believe ........the true test of Orbison , and his range , is / are the orignal cuts from the 50 s , 60 s .......as you just did ....thanx
Hillbilly Opera. Orbison was the master. He wrote and recorded blue bayou in 1961. One of his best. lf you have time, might want to check out Black and white night filmed at the Cocoanut Grove in 1988 with all his friends. To long to do a reaction to. lt was his last work before he passed bit it is epic. RIP Brother Roy. thanks for the memories.
Such an amazing artist, there is a select few songs that helped break the ice with a lady back in the day & this was one of them. 😁 'I drove all night' is my favourite Roy Orbison song. Please react to 'Lady In Red' by Chris de Burgh.
This song is really a time capsule of what was considered acceptable in the 60's. Today any guy calling out 'mercy" and growling at a woman in the street would likely be charged with harassment.
In Dreams is another son of Roy Orbison that should be listened two. Roy Orbison claimed in interviews that the lyrics for this song came to him in a dream; he wrote the music once he woke up. Typical of many Orbison songs, it's a heartbreaker: asleep at night is the only time he can be with the one he loves, as when he wakes up, she's gone.
I consider this song the perfect single-when this aired on the radio-the drums lock you in-the guitar riff grabs you and Roy's grorrrowwwlll was a bit subversive and suggestive at the time-all ingredients combined add up to a great rock and roll classic. Another song to suggest from Roy would be the ballad Blue Angel.
This was a classic example of back in the day when a drummer's job was to keep tempo. Not like today when the musicians have a digital electronic metronome stuck in their ear.
Roy did a collaboration with Barry Gibb and the Gatlin Brothers with the song Indian Summer, deserves a a few more reactions. Also check out Wings of Pegasus Vocal analysis indicates Roy Orbison was a MACHINE!
You might like to check out Jeff Lynne's imitation of Roy on ELO's album Balance of Power in a song called Endless Lies. This was before Jeff co-wrote and produced Roys comeback hit You Got It and did his stuff with the Traveling Wilburys.
One of my favourites. Loved the movie too. Roy is a legend. Check out The Travelling Wilburys super group that he was a part of with Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty…the song/video -Handle With Care.
Pretty Woman is for everybody, for sure. For men, for women......it transfers across gender lines and allows for personal meaning. But it was Roy Orbison's voice that gave the song its popularity.
I tried my dam*est to meet Mr. Orbison, I did live somewhat near at one point but too young and the folks moved away. I received a new position in and around Nashville, this meant an apt. back home to where my soul was, but to my great disappointment both Roy and Johnny Cash passed away before I could get back. My entire life it seems the Universe has done such things to me, often look on purpose (It would be an interesting read), but at the same time has given me pretty much all I need to be Happy. I still would have liked to meet Mr. Orbison. *- Your boy Barry Gibb purchased Johnny Cash's home.
terrific artist many great hits, if your looking for one in a similar tempo...Penny Arcade...fits nicely...or a nice ballad like ...IN Dreams....don't forget YOU GOT IT which went to number 1 after he passed
(8860) This is probably the place and time for a call for sth. from the "Traveling Wilburys". They may have been short lived (1988 - 1990) due to Roy's death, but they were great! Don't be confused, that there are two albums called "Traveling Wilburys (Vol. 1 & 3)". There are several theories about whether "Vol. 2" did ever exist or what was it like. Strong recommendations include "Handle with Care" and "End of the Line"...
Love Roy Orbison. His voice is one of a kind. Great song! Recommend reacting to a song by The Traveling Wilbury's. They are a Super Group, which included Roy Orbison, George Harrison, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne and Bob Dylan. Handle with Care is great and has Roy Orbison there with them. End of The Line is also great. Roy had recorded his parts, but passed away before they made the video. It is interesting to see how they included him in the video.
Like y'all's channel . Just joined . Really cute reactions . Roy Orbison was one of the greats . You should react to him with the Traveling Wilburys . It's him with a group of the greatest singer songwriters of all time . Have a great day !
The phrase "eyes on me" immediately took me back to my teenage years and the song "Eyes On Me" by Faye Wong, a HK singer, who is probably recognised by exactly zero other watchers here, unless they also played Final Fantasy VIII. I'm not suggesting it as a reaction, the viewer count would be quite low. But it was an opportunity to go and listen to it again. thank you.
You are certainly both very pretty women, so this song is for you. "Brown-eyed Girl" by Van Morrison is too. As is "Dark-eyed Cajun Woman" by Gregg Allman. Just for starters. Well worth the listen if unknown. Great show y'all.
You’re both Pretty Women. I can’t believe how similar you look. Almost like twins even though you’re mom/daughter. LoL. There’s a concert called Black and White Night, with Roy playing Long Tom Waits, KD Lang, Steve Winwood etc. Amazing if you could find one of their tacks
Talking about brown eyes if you haven’t heard of them there are two songs “Beautiful Brown Eyes” by Rosemary Clooney and “Brown Eyed Girl” by Van Morrison.
There is also a video version of this song on UA-cam for you both to check out. And I agree about him not mentioning any attributes because my girls are all Redheads which is what attracted me to her in High School.
Have you ever heard Van Morrison's song, Brown Eyed Girl? You might want to check it out and then you will have a song about a girl with brown eyes lol.
Everyone always reviews Pretty Woman which was his biggest hit, but he had so many other better songs. Songs that really showed off his unique vocals. The most hauntingly beautiful thing you will ever find on the internet is Roy's version of Danny Boy.
Not a car accident His first wife Claudette died in a motorcycle accident.
@@djgrant8761 - My faux pas. Knew it was vehicular.
Roy himself didn´t consider his life more tragic than that of any other person. He often says in interview he had even more great years than those two tragic ones.
Roy Orbison was a great talent. Good rabbit hole to go down. Amazing range.
His performance doing Crying alone or with K.D. Lange is phenomenal! He is one of the greatest singers ever. Elvis and Roy were good friends said Roy's voice was the best he ever heard.
Yep, when she came in on the lyric...."That the touch of your hand".....
........a star was born.
I love Roy Orbison's voice.
Roy is an absolute Legend. Elvis even thought he had the perfect voice. Great reaction, please react to Roy's song "Crying"

I remember sitting in my basement. I had a record player. It played LPS and I listen to Roy Orbison over and over again. Thank you hi from Maryland

I certainly hope y'all listen to more of Roy's repertoire as he has many absolutely beautiful songs.
Great song! If I’d see that beautiful daughter walking down the street toward me I’d be thinking, “Mercy!”
Elvis Presley was once asked who is the best singer in the world. His answer was Roy Orbison and you can't argue with that!
What I found most interesting about Roy Orbison and his musical career is, at one time early on, the Beatles were his opening act on tour.
Barry Gibb said that Roy's voice was always one of his favorites.👍🎶🎶🎶🎶❤️
Roy Orbinson one of my favourite singers
Perhaps one of the most iconic songs ever performed. The movie Pretty Woman, skyrocketed this song and gave it a second life far bigger than its original. Much the same way as the movie Ghost gave the Righteous Bros. Unclaimed Melody a huge second life.
Someone else here suggested you listen to "Crying". I wholeheartedly agree. Great reaction.
i was 19 when this song came out. 58 yrs later, still remember every word. sure sign of a great track
Van Halen Did A Harder Cover In The 1980s.

It is really nice to see that your Daughter has such a open mind for all music. CCR bad Moon rising

I have most Roy Orbison albums and I love alllll his songs I can listen to him all day long!!!!!!!
I was a teenager when this came out. I heard it on the radio and went out and bought it the next day.

If you're feeling a bit left out, a great fun song for you to react to is Van Morrison's 'Brown eyed girl'.

One of the greatest voices ever! Loved Him in concert!
One of my favorite is Roy Orbison - Running Scared. I have been listening to him as long as i can remember. I love all his songs 🥰❤❤
This song and Roy Orbison beat out the Beatles for #1 in '64.
Only Roy Orbison can sing "mercy" and growl in a song and sound so cool.
Roy had incredible range. From bass to falsetto seamlessly. Not to mention that little growl was pretty cool 😎.
you ladies need to listen to this song done live at the black and white concert. it has a bunch of legends backing up roy. springsteen ,james burton, kd land, jackson browne ,just to name a few. you won't regret it. you ladies are my new favorite reaction channel
Van halen did a cover of this song in the 1980s good song

Correction: Roy had another #1 hit with Running Scared, in 1961. :)
A TRUE LEGEND ,IN DREAMS MY PERSONAL FAV LOVE FROM THE UK.
Very nice reaction by 2 classy ladies who fit the description (and I said that very respectfully)!!!
Another Texas legend in music history.
I loved hearing mom's "fantasy"; that was the best 🤩. I always thought about it the same way you described when it was popular again because of the movie and I was a mere 20 something gal. And when I hear it now at 58, it makes me feel the same way; confident I could still live that fantasy 😂! ! !
Great choice and great reaction. Roy Orbison was incredibly talented. You may also enjoy Van Halen's take on this classic.
The Van Halen version has to be played with "Intruder" as the introduction before "Pretty Woman."
You will love Van Morrison's "Brown Eyed Girl".
Roy’s duos with KD Lang are mesmerizing and legendary. Well worth looking up.
Possibly my favourite song by Roy Orbison is "Crying". He also did a duet of this song with K D Lang.
K D Lang also did a solo version that not only stands up to Roy, but, to some peoples ears, even surpasses Roy's version. Check out her tribute to Roy from MTV Unplugged... ua-cam.com/video/JNbnFVBVnz0/v-deo.html
Hi gals rumour has it that Roy wrote pretty woman in 20 minutes while on a plane trip. Amazing song one of rock and rolls greatest.👍🏻👍🏻
Listening to Crying with Roy Orbison and k.d. Lang is a must. Orbison claimed to have written this as the result of an encounter he had with an old flame with whom he was still in love. He refused to say how much she meant to him, and when he ran into her again it was too late.
All of his songs were great, one of my favorite songs was written by Roy Orbison…Blue Bayou

Two pretty women!Great reaction by the way.
Such an amazing artist, there is a select few songs that helped break the ice with a lady back in the day & this was one of them. 😁
'I drove all night' is my favourite Roy Orbison song.
Please react to 'Lady In Red' by Chris de Burgh.
5:07 That is truly a great observation..as your mom pointed out.

Another great one by Roy is Only The Lonely. He has some many and great to see you reactions to them.

One of my favourites. Loved the movie too. Roy is a legend. Check out The Travelling Wilburys super group that he was a part of with Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty…the song/video -Handle With Care.
Most people will suggest that you listen to "Crying" next, and that's a good choice. But "Running Scared" must also be on your list!

So you've done Van Halen and you've done Roy Orbison. So now you have to do Van Halen's cover of this song. It's pretty cool.
There was later a cover of this song released by Van Halen in 1982. That version is alright if you haven't heard it yet.
Can you suggest me some of his best songs ? I heard this one just now and fcking loved it.
