I have a heavy 40 foot long fiberglass ladder and I have a nice stand off for it . Raising the ladder with the standoff attached is getting tough for an almost 66 year old guy. LOL . I used to put some of the tallest ladders up and set scaffold all day ! The stanhdoff brackets really are nice though for not bearing weight on gutter and setting first row of shingles. Great video !
5 year old video and still very useful visual instruction! Thanks, There is some debate below on the angle of your ladder.. I don't know what it was and it wasn't the point of the video but for anyone else passing by.. The UK (HSA) regulations for ladder angle is 75 degrees from the floor or more easily calculated the 4:1 rule... so if your ladder is 8 meters long the foot of the ladder should be 2 meters from the base of the wall it is leaning against. Many ladders sold here have a sticker on the side with an arrow pointing up.. when placed at the correct angle that arrow should look vertical . Thanks again for the video.
I note on the right hand side there was a part of the house jutting out. If you had to access the window above this section how would you have done it as don’t think the stand off would allow enough clearance? I am asking as I have a similar property. Thanks
Painting and Decorating there is another part of the house which juts out and isn’t flat. Do you have any advice how I could paint the section above it? Thanks
@@scottishjimmy9813 sometimes I but the ladder bracket on top rungs, and rest it onto the main roof of the house onto the tiles over the gutter. Or stretched out off the wall and secured at the bottom using what you can. Garden folk or some one footing the ladder or heavy weight. Always be safe.
That is very helpful. I am trying to learn how to use my ladders and stand off. They are the same size and as a 5 foot 4 woman they are not that easy to move and get up against the house never mind that our house is much much taller than that one!
Thanks. Know how you feel I've had treatment Cubital tunnel release in both arms and had golfers elbow treated with a new treatment. And am glad too say am a lot better.
Great video. I am about to do my gutters and will watch this before I proceed. For gutters would you still place the stand off 1 rung down from the top or use the top one? Oh I just re watched the clip and you have answered my question. Top one is to be used.
Use the top mainly depends on the size of the under eves. Sometimes I go straight over the gutter and rest on to the tiles. High safety standards required when it comes to steps or ladders.
Zinsser 5-1 can be left as a finish or overpainted with the finish of your choice. With it just being white and not brilliant white it depends on how white you want it.
Sorry pal but the angle was not correct as your standoff wasn't sitting on the wall properly and the rungs was forward more, by moving the ladder slightly closer to the building you achieve the correct angle and you could done that without a standoff and extended the ladder up against the soffit and wall which will give a safe way of working from a ladder, as I have over 30 years experience with working from ladders
Nothing wrong with the angle. He did everything alright. I have 25 years of ladder experience 6 days a week. Perhaps you are losing your mind and you need to retire.
I might add you can tell while he is at the top if he was standing straight up to the ladder and extended his arms they would be 90 degrees in front of him. Thus the perfect angle.
First class explanation- especially the bit about leaving the top rung free. Just what OH needed. Thanks muchly.
Thank you.

These ladder standoffs are good , But a pain when you are trying to move an extended ladder around . As they make the ladder -Top Heavy .....

Put a sheet of wood on the flat roof and ladders at the side and carry a pair steps up and work on them.

what s the best way to secure the bottom off the ladder if you are on your own enjoyed and when can you use the stand off.
We have a playlist on ladders but this link is one for safety... ua-cam.com/video/inwJPYyDK2A/v-deo.html

just a question do you no if you use Zinsser ceiling pro 5-in-1 can you use any other paint on top of it for a second coat ?
