    This is my second comment since 15 years of youtubing. But I just had to write a comment.
    This presentation was exactly what I was looking for and exceeded my expectations. Love the clear explanations and different cases of usage, the comparison between amp and port as well as the alternatives. No questions open from my side.
    A big thump up!!! Thanks!

    Another great and helpful video. I bought a Sonos Port from you guys after watching your videos. You quickly answered my question on the live chat, I ordered it and it was delivered the next day for free. Two minutes later and I’m playing my vinyl in all the rooms in my house through my Play 1’s. I’m only using an entry level Sony turntable with built in preamp and it sounds Brilliant.
    Thanks.

    Thanks for the video guys, great production as always and explains the usage of the Port really clearly. I’ve been looking for a way to connect my turntable to my Sonos Ones and this looks like it will be the best solution as I don’t have space for a Sonos Five. The only thing you didn’t mention was that the turntable would need a built-in preamp (or separate preamp) for it to connect to the Port.

    We’re designing a new home that will have four stories and a lot of “zones”. We will have a dedicated listening room, a photo studio and several rooms dedicated to various purposes. I like the idea of same music everywhere, when we have a full house, but when I’m shooting, I like to use music to set the mood, while my wife likes music for her yoga workout or while she’s lying by the pool. So, is this the piece of gear we need to let us use a couple of pairs of excellent speakers, a great amp, etc. but tie it into the brilliant Sonos system. I hate to be so detailed, but you guys are the best on UA-cam as far as product knowledge and installation goes.

Do not have Sonos devices so far, but stream directly via iOS from the music app or Tidal. Would be nice for an AV equivalent to the port. To be able to plug either source or the projector/tv via earc and send sound to your sonos speakers.
    Really fancy a couple of symfonisk picture speakers to work as stereo sound for a discrete home cinema set up in the living room but as of yet haven't figured out an effective way to do this.

    This was a really informative presentation. 👍. Having started to move over to a Sonos system (Beam2 and One SL) I was looking at the Port, but I only have a headphone output or
    Mono Sub output on my current Yamaha N470D. I would still like the option to use both my turntable (connected to the Yamaha) and cd player (built in). I can’t imagine the headphone is the best option, but is the only stereo one without reconfiguring the system, which I am not quite ready to do. Are there potential issues I need to be aware of apart from being careful of the volume which I guess will act like a preamp. Thanks.

    If I am playing CD’s through my player connected to the port, what is the streaming quality to the Sonos speakers (e.g. One’s)? Does this give full CD quality, or is it a reduced mp3 like signal?

    This was very helpful. Quick question though re connecting a Turntable directly to Sonos 5 or the Port, you didn't mention a Pre-amp was needed and had a Rega P1 on the table which doesn't have one built in....does that mean a Pre-amp is actually not needed to go from Turntable to Port for example? my understanding was a Pre-amp is needed for all Sonos hardware but perhaps that changed with the Port? Many thanks

    I have a complete Sonos system and then I bought a Sonos Port for my stereo to stream to the receiver. Well long story short after reading many articles and asking Sonos a time or two and getting a smoothed over comment from my salesman on all the equipment but especially the port I discovered the truth. The Port only streams CD quality music which for many is good enough. If you have a streaming service and want and pay for much higher resolutions don't get the Port it can't handle it. I bought a Blue Node and was blown away by how much the music improved. Now this isn't an ad for Blue Node others I'm sure could deliver as well but now I'm saddled with selling my Sonos Port. I wish my salesman had been north forthcoming instead of trying to "bag' the sale with me.

    I assume the Sonos Port has no pre-amp output so to control the volume when connected to an existing audio amplifier you have to set the volume using your amplifier controls. In short can you connect the Port to a power amplifier (no pre-amp or volume control) and control the volume via the Sonos app into a non Sonos audio system?

      You would need an rca to 3.5mm and connect it to the primary google home max. It can then wirelessly sync to the other channel. These would likely be out of sync with everything else as it has additional latency.

      Hi John, the Boost is only required if your WiFi cannot be relied upon wirelessly and it won't be practical to connect at least one Sonos product directly to your router via ethernet. By doing this, you'll launch Sonosnet and put all of your speakers on their own wireless mesh so will enhance the reliability of your Sonos speakers maintaining connection on your network.

    Can you tell me if having the Port being connected to the network directly with an ethernet cable is optimal for quality reasons within the music or is it just simply based on limiting/eliminating dropping the wireless signal? Thanks.

    • @smarthomesounds
      @smarthomesounds  Рік тому

      Yes it will be purely for connectivity reasons and it won’t effect the audio quality wired or wireless.

    Just a add-on from the "Bowers & Wilkins" Support, because I asked if the "Formation Audio" can stream the analog signal via Apple AirPlay: "Our Formation Audio will only send audio to Formation products and will not send audio to third party speakers."

    Great Video, no chance for a port mini though! Sonos love people having to buy the most expensive items to resolve minor things... Otherwise why isn't there a line in on all of their products? they could do that very easily surely??

    Can you attach a stereo receiver to the port (input connections) and play all of the components (tape deck, cd player, fm radio, turntable) on your sonos speakers? I understood you connect only one component (cd or turntable). If I were to spend $450 I would want my entire stereo to be able to play to all the sonos speakers on my sonos network.

      Hi there, yes whatever audio source you input into the Port can be sent to any Sonos speaker in your system.

    Hi I have a Sonos connect and hifi with turntable, if i steam turntable to another room I can hear an audio delay but can’t turn this off within the Sonos app for the connect can audio delay be turn off for the port within the app? My living room and kitchen are next to each other so when listening records in both rooms the delay is noticeable.

    • @davidsandin9769

      I have similar setup. To avoid audio delay, connect the turntable to the Sonos Connect and hifi amp simultaneously with an Y cable. Also connect the line-out on the Sonos Connect to your amp. When playing multiroom, on your hifi amp, always use the line in from the Connect instead of directly playing from the turntable. By doing this you will have synchronised audio in all Sonos zones.

      @@smarthomesounds I'm looking to do this too, my first choice was use a beam and port to sit under a 49" super ultrawide, but I'm now thinking as they have line in, to buy 2 5's , at 8" in hight it could still be doable, the monitor would be higher than I'm used to but not by a crazy amount if I get it to sit on the speaker. What would you guys do for a PC Sonos speaker set up?

  • @boonchic
    @boonchic 2 роки тому

    Would the port also work if I am using a projector and want to put the sonos beam in front of me instead of behind me (it is currently behind me because the beam needs to be plugged into it)? So if I use the port and attach it to the projector, would it be able to connect to the beam and surrounding speakers?

    • @smarthomesounds
      @smarthomesounds  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Corie, I wouldn't recommend this as the Port only outputs in 2-channel stereo so would make your surround speakers obsolete. You may want to look into running an extended cable from the projector to the Beam. Hope this helps!

    I don't yet own any Sonos, I can't find a clear answer: Can one use: sonos arc plugged into TV eARC, + 2 One SL for rears + 1 One SL for center channel in case I need to get clearer dialogs, where I could move that one SL very close to me. Basically: Does the s2 app allow to assign channels to whatever speaker you want? and if I can assign center channel to a One SL, does the center channel from the sound bar sonos arc then lose its center channel or does it remain?

    • @Mikedimmy
      @Mikedimmy 3 роки тому +1

      You can’t make a One SL into a centre channel like you’ve mentioned. The only additions you can make with the Arc or Beam is adding the two rears and/or the Sonos Sub.

    It really only has a single stereo input which makes it very limited. If you had a CD player and a record deck it would be difficult to connect both. So that would mean you would need to buy a seperate Port to enable more than one stereo device to input in the Sonos network.

    Instead of using a Sonos Port to connect a turntable to your Sonos system, you could use a Sonos Roam via Bluetooth (if the turntable has bluetooth like the ProJect Essential III Bluetooth).

      Thanks for the comment. This is true and we did mention this on our previous Roam video and can’t wait to test it out in our hands on Sonos Roam review. Hopefully it could be a more cost effective way if you have a Bluetooth turntable.

    How can I set up karaoke w my sonos system.

    • @smarthomesounds
      @smarthomesounds  2 роки тому

      Hi Craig, while it is possible, it will result in a fairly noticeable delay between actually singing and hearing the sound out of the speakers which won't be ideal. I'd recommend a more traditional amplifier set up or dedicated karaoke set up for any live inputs where the delay can be reduced. I hope that helps!

    With the Sonos Port can I use mic for Karaoke 🎤 to share it to my Sonos speakers 🔊

    • @smarthomesounds
      @smarthomesounds  2 роки тому

      Technically you can do this by using the line in on the Sonos Port but as you would experience at least a 70ms delay between what is being output through the microphone and what is heard at the other end, I'd recommend a dedicated Karaoke set up for this purpose. Hope that helps.
