Yeah I was about to say watch him get destroyed in state finals by Spencer lee😂 and he definitely got dominated this match doesn’t need to be high scoring. Sammy didn’t have one single go his way
Yanni been on international circuit almost 3 yrs much stronger now always great technical guy since Hilton high he'll beat sasso by more next time won't even be close
So what triggers ( not sure what its called)the part where they come out to the middle with one guy on all fours and they go for ride time and is it the same in folk and freestyle wrestling??? Thanks i appreciate everyones time
1st period -Always starts in neutral position (both standing) 2nd period - A coin is flipped (as seen at 04:00) the coin is either red or green corresponding to their ankle bands. The wrestler who's color comes up on top has the option to start the period up, down, in neutral position, or to defer the decision to the other wrestler. 3rd period - Other wrestler chooses up, down, or neutral. In Freestyle, which only had two periods, they always start periods in neutral position. They do sometimes during the periods start in a down/up configuration. I don't know exactly what triggers that in freestyle.
Yianni looks unbeatable here. It's interesting that he had such close matches earlier in the day. I can only assume it was a weight cut issue or maybe he just started slow. Either way, this Yianni is on another level
It's also worth nothing that Yianni had an incredibly long layoff from folkstyle competition. Training and competing in freestyle is one thing, but college wrestling is a different animal. It takes some time to get that rust off and get back into the swing of things.
@@mach7rs Very good observation, add to that some styles just mess people up when not used to it for that time, and I was there and Yianni looked like he was aware he wasn’t moving well against Ridge. He looked sleepy and was looking at coaches as if he was disappointed with himself. Seemed to turn it up for Sasso. Everyone gets to learn though, and usually whomever loses os the one who improves the most. Some won’t understand but these wrestlers got far tougher just from wrestling Yianni, as he got better from his losses. Great to read your mentioning folkstyle as requiring time; many give freestyle too much credit. It’s just that it’s “international” so billions do it, and the base of competition is enormous. That folkstyle guys switch over and still sometimes medal in freestyle, says something about folkstyle athletes.
@@lasvegasloner4621 ahh that’s interesting. It definitely sounds like he needed to get back into the swing and after watching him the rest of the season, he got that rust off and then some. And yes, absolutely. You can learn from wins and losses, but oftentimes losses help expose our weaknesses. I definitely think it helps you get better just by getting your hands on a guy like Yianni. As for the last point, I would have to agree everyone in the US over markets freestyle. I understand that it is the international style, but people act like it is all you need to do and will improve your folk style wrestling. How are you getting better in folkstyle in the top and bottom positions, or in scrambles, when training freestyle? The answer is you aren’t.
Yianni seems to have an excellent demeanor. He is not jumping up and down or expressing elation as some wrestlers. This cool, "I did what I had to do and now on to the next job" appearance. The wrestlers who are jumping up and down after any win should be softly admonished. When there is a winner there is always a loser. The outward signs of showing your prowess over your opponent have no place in wrestling, in my opinion. These displays of emotion are demeaning to your opponent. For what reason? After a fair bout there is no reason to have any hard feelings. Better yet, you can even honor each other. Wrestling is a unique sport in that individually every wrestler has to work tremendously hard, overcome his/her own limitations, and strive harder than the regular person on the street. It is a unique club. Years later after wrestling you are still in that unique club. Both wrestlers work hard at achieving their spot on the team and into competition. The loser only lost the bout, but he/she are still winners. Second place winner. How many people can say they are second best? One
How he could say Sasso is a better wrestler in FOLK style, I have NO IDEA!!! Seeing Yanni has ONE (1), Loss in College, and then beat him later, I don't know what he's thinking. Yanni's one of the best qrestlers, if not THE best. I have it Gable Stevenson (1), Yanni (2), and Spencer (3). I WOULD have had Spencer Lee at one (1), but I question him right now, and wonder if he shouldn't have taken a red shirt year, or injury year. I believe he STILL has no AL'S, in either k ee, and I'm about as big of an Iowa Wrestling Fan as there is, and even I think Spence ducked Pat Glory at that match. Not only that, I think it's the SECOND time he's ducked Pat. I did have it Spence, Gable, and Yanni, since it had been so long since Yanni had even wrestled in College, and Gable is not only a College Champion, but an Olympic Gold Medalist. HOW can you argue Gables not being on top!!
@@youmang Yeah. That title still belongs to Dan Gable. He only lost one college match, ever. Kyle Dake would be next in line. 4 titles at 4 different weights including a win over David Taylor in the finals. Spencer’s at least third on the list. He has been dominant, no doubt.
@@Michael-ii9fs If you put them all at the same weight at the their peaks, it would be nuts. Cael Sanderson, Kyle Dake, Yojiro Uetake, Dan Gable, Pat and John Smith, Dan Hodge, Mark Schultz, David Taylor, and Ed Banach (just to name 10) would be insane. Shame we can't actually see something like that happen.

On god
Sasso needs to transfer to Penn State. He is not improving at OSU.
Wow, never seen Sasso get dominated, YD on another level
Spencer Lee vs Sammy Sasso PIAA state finals
@@googlegmail9888 was just about to say the same
I wouldn't call 6-2 dominated.
@@TheTerryE No, Sasso was dominated. You don't need a TF at this level to be dominated. Sasso basically couldn't do anything against Yianni.

Man shows you how good Lovett really is! They had a banger in the semis
Definitely love the danger rule also. In addition to causing action I think it tends more towards freestyle exposure too.
N Yani is a mad scientist!
Nobody’s beating Yianni when he’s not willing to lose. He worked Sasso over!
Didn’t get to watch the video your a bum

Pro tip: never read the comments before watching the video.
He lost at nationals a few years back but got saved by the referees. he's not even that dominant lmao

Yiannis lookin sharp asf rn
The Ridge Lovett match with Yanni was way more competitive. He went toe to toe with Yanni, Lovett is underrated.
Seems to me that Sasso has been getting more and more passive the past 18 months or so? Great defensive wrestler, but everyone knows he waits now.
Crazy that Ridge Lovett gave Yianni a MUCH harder match than Sammy.
The escape call at the end was legit. Watch the time when YD released and Sasso had under hooks. At the buzzer. Good call ref.
6:41 grabbed tf outta his shit
Plz tell me someone know what type of shoes yianni is wrestling in
What is the danger rule
The white Cornell singlets are 🔥🔥
New Bulletin: After this match, Sammy changed his last name to So-so
Wish Yianni stayed 141. Would love to see some of those battles!

We know that flo took over trackwrestling. When do we get to see the kids? 6u through 12?
Battle of the cakes. Sheesh! 😭🍑🔥
Shows how good Lovett is wow.
Anyone else laugh when the announcer said he thought Sasso was a better Folkstyle wrestler?
He was not saying Sammy was better than Yianni at folkstyle. He was saying Sammy is better at folkstyle than freestyle. Which is accurate.
Yup, Sasso got worked over pretty good in this one. I still wouldn't say Yanni has it in the bag. Sasso come tournament time just turns it up a notch.
He didn't last year
Yianni’s got it in the bag, he’s still adjusting from freestyle and will only get better as the season goes on
Yianni controlled this whole match, almost looked to easy tbh
Was too easy. He's on world level now.
Good match. Yianni has a mean ride and single leg. Sammy wrestled a little too passive. Should be an interesting battle next time they meet.
That's just what happens you get controlled like that in a match, didn't wrestle passive.
No one will beat Yanni for NCAA title. He’s that good.
Sammy needed to change weights to win this year. Yianni looks so good.
Y'all complain about how flo spoils the result in the title but you guys spoil it in the comment section anyways
Man, that kid is impressive.
Why is Yianni grabbing him there at 6:43. Isn't that illegal??
