This was my main gun for everything except primer for many years and it’s still rocking .After using the Satas and my Tekna for awhile with waterborne,this is again my main base gun since we switched to solvent with the orange cap and 1.3 .It’s a great all around gun
The LPH400 was one of my first quality guns when I got serious about painting. Now I have all the big flagship guns of the major brands, I still like to use the LPH for smaller jobs like hoods, doors and fenders. It is a little bit slow compared to my other guns but never disappoints when it comes to the finish. I recommend it to any painter and especially to new painters for a great do-it-all-gun.
I just inherited my brother’s LPH 400 LV 1.4 with the chrome cap.He’s had that gun for 20 years and I plan to use it to clear my El Camino. I also have his SATA RP base gun. He passed away suddenly two months ago and it will be an honor to use his guns.
I'm not a paint guy.Back in the day my favorite was the Binks number 7. I painted with 99 A pitch black.Dupont Centari. Won many paint awards.Great video
Awesome job Kandy man. I feel u crush it with any gun u use! I put down my sata’s back in 2000 and never turned back. Iwata has been my gun of choice ever since. The orange cap was my work horse for many years! I’ve made a lot of money with it. Still use it for sealer and solid colors. I’m actually about to re-kit it soon.
Very nice finish the LPH400 looks like it lays the clear down really flat. I don't have an LPH400 but apart from the tulip nozzle it looks the same gun as my W400 Bellaria🤔👍 John UK
The Bellaria is a great gun, The W400 guns are illegal to use in body shops here in the USA because they are not EPA compliant. The LPH400 is basically a modified W400for the North American market. Cheers M8!
I would love to see you spray some base coat/sealer through it. I bought mine for base but it seems like most people get better use out of it for spraying clear. Great video regardless!!
I had this gun and it used more clear than my sata 90 1.3sl did at the time. It depends on what you spray & how you use it. 24 spi, i never could have sprayed that low unless the clear was junk . Like chromabase 600 from back in the day 😅
Have the same one but only with a 3.1 tip & orange cap, it sprays clear pretty good but it does leave a little peel not too bad & usually spraying around 25 psi

Kinda overwhelmed with all the different guns available but I’m seeing the extreme with the 1.3 and wondering if that’s the same one you are demonstrating? I use the ws400 1.3 for clear and love it. I like a little slower gun but not too slow. Any thoughts on tip size in that gun for what i shoot? Thanks for the input 😎
I bought lph 400 in 09 for clear works okay for OEM finishes it is slow 1.4 I went back to my w400 1.4 lv4 it's a bit faster and can handle the heavier clears
Man I bought this gun and never used it since I went to the prolite and then jumped into a dv1 for clear. The fan on this gun is insane. Need to open the box and put it to work.
Hi there..how are your settings when using the purple cap..i bought that cap some time back but can figure out the massive fan it makes..any tips on using the gun with this cap??
@kenneth andersen I haven't used it much, but for me turn all the way out they in until the trigger moves and then adjust the fan. I do motorcycle so I don't need a big fan.
@@jq8792 The orange cap is good for everything. The purple cap is perfect for custom work as it lays clear like glass. I have all three caps and never use the chrome cap anymore, orange all day and purple for special jobs.
@@zurus172 29 psi, full fluid, full fan (adjusted for even pattern). Depending on your clear, MS HS or UHS, you need to adjust the fan from full to avoid a dry spot in the middle. I usually spray a UHS clear so I don't need to bring the fan in very much.
The supernova is such a finicky gun when it comes to the settings, once you get it dialed in it is magical. The LPH400 is very easy to setup and use, parts are plentiful and cheap compared to other guns.

I appreciate the your coverage on this. I've had mine for 4 years as a dedicated clear gun. I have to say I read almost the full pdf from iwata and this gun is sort of an LVLP it was saying. But since epa regulations don't recognize that term (in their infinite wisdom) so they just call it an HVLP. What pressure did you spray it at?

The purple Harbor Freight gun is surprisingly good (sometimes).... it just doesn't last. It is assembled with silicone sealant that breaks down and don't try to take the gun apart or else it will never work right again. Those guns cant be beat for costing less than $10 on sale with a coupon. Definitely a one or two use gun before you throw it in the trash. The solvent to clean it costs more than the gun.

@@kandyman5315 I may have to try that. I've been spraying at around 30 psi with it. I'm use to using medium solid clear coats, but using hs clears now and trying to get use to it. On fenders and doors I can get it to lay down fine, but hoods are giving me problems getting it to lay down good

@@andrelawrence9644 the chrome cap is good for what it is made for "clear" because of the medium pattern at full open. The orange is made for base because of the huge pattern helping with metalic laying even. The orange is more versatile because it can do basically everything just matter of setting it up. Also get the 1.4 it helps alot moving faster and can just turn fluid it if it's to fast for you

Have you tried all three caps? The orange seems to be the favorite and the purple is the best kept secret for laying clear like glass.

LVB cap is great at atomizing the clear and base. It is a well kept secret.
