Haha , bloody classic entry . I have a few flies in my box from 1978 ,they are to sentimental to use as they have been to every state in Australia and even NZ so they just sit in the top left corner of my fly box growing older like me .
I'm glad you've got your priorities in order, secure your fish then look after your mate... It's good that Gary is still putting a smile on my face. ....I loved the ending I had a good laugh. You guys could do " The Steve and Gary Show".... Oh, I nearly forgot the fishing was good too.
Bloody cold water... "oh well while you're in there. No don't touch the leader! Oh @#$% Gaz just take your time, slow down, slow down, just wait, head first hahaha!"
That was an absolute classic I gave Gary a 9.5 for his entry it was awesome . I haven't fished the Tumut for a very long time but have landed a few nice ones there but my favourite stream in that area is the Goobragandra upstream from the campground about 3or4 KLMs up into the gorge area it's a great stream to fish with lures and the fly as well maybe you could do a show there Steve
Thanks Rod. We actually fished the Goobragandra and were very disappointed at the lack of life, Talked to a local who said it was once a great trout water, but went downhill fast a few years ago and he doesnt bother fishing it any more. Have you fished it in recent times?
Best video in ages Steve, I laughed, I nearly cried! Just two great mates fishing, and a couple of nice fish. All those things have happened to me on various trips, but I stayed slightly drier than Garry 😉 Cheers guys, can't wait for the next video. Thanks.
Classic Gaz! The average UA-camr would have titled that "We Went Trout Fishing And My Mate Nearly Died!!!" haha Didn't realise he netted himself, that has to be a first. You may get some benefit out of a polarised filter for the GoPro, I just use cheap ones and they really cut the glare from the water and make the colours pop. Might get to see the trout swimming about. They also protect the more expensive lens underneath when you get tangled in the scrub trying to rescue your mate! Another great watch.
Thanks Dean! I thought about going down the "clickbait" path with a video title and description, but it's not really where I'm coming from with this channel, so I hope people just find it anyway and get to enjoy the comedy bit, as well as the fishing content! That's a really good suggestion on the polariser for the GoPro. I'll check it out. I was so disappointed that those fish didn't show up on video ,as they were clear as the proverbial dog's whatsits through sunnies! Cheers mate.
You're a good man Garry, by remaining calm in that cold water, make sure Steve fetches you fish next time. I have fished that difficult river many a time it always runs cold.
Hey Steve, I love how old guys like us find Lures and flies we made decades ago and finally put them to effective use. I wonder what the record age is for a fly or lure from being manufactured to its last use.
Great vlog Starlo some nice trout there special cheers to Gary who assisted in the landing of the fish he went above and beyond what a sport. Its been a long time since I've been in that neck of the woods spinning for trout. Is there any fly fishing courses you can recommend I'd love to give fly fishing a go
Thanks John. Best advice I can give for learning fly is to do a day or two with a really good guide. Do your homework first. There's a good guy operates out of Tom's Outdoors shop in Tumut. Worth talking to them first, I reckon.
What locations did you have in mind? If you’re talking the Tumut I’ve only fished the designated angler access area downstream of Junction Park and the access behind the Tumut Valley Holiday Park. Not sure what the situation is beyond that, but if you access at public land, a designated stock route or a bridge and stay within the high water mark you should be pretty right.
if you like this video and my channel, please consider shouting me a beer (or a coffee!) to help me continue producing great UA-cam content for your viewing pleasure! Thanks... and cheers! To shout me that beer go to: www.buymeacoffee.com/starlo
Cheers for that! I think trout anywhere can be fairly spooky. Something I’ve seen with NZ browns in clear streams is that they’ll “spook” but not necessarily move away. Instead they just stay where they are, stop feeding and reject everything you throw at them. I’ve wasted hours on fish like this! By contrast, Aussie trout seem to vanish from sight when spooked. I think this might be what creates the impression that our trout are more easily alarmed… but I could be wrong!

Haha what a classic session! Gary is in! The things we do for fishing haha ❤️🎣
So true!
Hahaha i haven’t watched you for years Steve, I’m glad to say nothing has changed! Nice fish mate and a great video thanks.
Thanks so much, Kev.
flies that last for 25 years... impressive mate
🤣🤣🤣 Most actors usually hire stunt men for their dangerous manoeuvres. Good in ya Gaz. Loved it. Taking one for the team.
Thanks Robbie! Yes, too much fun. Lucky he’s such a good sport.
Loved this very entertaining nice trout

Some quality fish in that river starlo well done!👍🏼
Thanks mate! Yes, some solid fish in there for sure.
Hahahaah! Love it mate, great cameo by Gaz, I didn’t realise until the final replay that he actually netted himself…😂
Thanks mate. And yes, I know… the self-netting “capped it off”, so to speak! 😂
Bloody cold water... "oh well while you're in there. No don't touch the leader! Oh @#$% Gaz just take your time, slow down, slow down, just wait, head first hahaha!"
Good thing he has a sense of humour! :)
Mate absolutely had me in stitches, great video, as always.
Thank you! 👍

Just! 🤣

Thanks for the tip Starlo will do
@starlo any advice on working out access without trespassing?

Thanks Starlo, being from England I’m much more used to designated beats etc…
Being and Pom AND upsetting the farming community is not a good look!😊
Gary is a dedicated netter of fish, Steve you need a bigger landing net to retrieve Gaz !
Totally! Love it.

Is it just me ..or are Australian trout way more spooky than NZ trout?
That is a beautiful brown btw.

Nice!!!
What part of Tumut this is?
Thanks! Downstream from Junction Park.
😂😂😂
Bro just doesn’t want to get spotted by the fisheries
