Hi, one more Kiwi watching! You present a very good guide on reading the water and rig set up. I have just checked the river flow for the area I was going to fish on Google and am told that it’s 37.3 Cumecs. Thats a bit on the high side for this 86 year old, so I will wait as the forecast for tomorrow is down to 26.7 Cumecs. What I am trying to get at is to rig up for the flow of the water in the depth of the pool you know you will fish. In my case I will take two rods with me, one 6wt 9’ 6” with a 12 foot leader with a size 16 beaded nymph and using a wool indicator that I can move up from the bottom rapids to the head of the pool. At head of the pool I will change rods to a 8WT 9’ 6” with a shooting head and a 2’ 6” nylon leader with a No. 2 Wooly Bugger fly that I will fish on a swing. The trout in this pool can be anything from 2 to 8 lbs browns or rainbows at this time of the year. Chances are looking good for tomorrow, but it will be hot and UV violent. That means full body cover including gloves! Thats what happens when you live in a anglers paradise! Cheers mate. Harera

Thanks mate! Glad you enjoyed. Definitely one thing that often gets overlooked is river flows. Staying on top of levels not only prepares you for where and what you might fish with but also wading safety. With the two-rod setup you've got and having a multitude of flies at different weights, and leaders of various lengths, you'll set yourself up nicely.

Great video and great information. Can I just challenge you on one thing? Add a 25 pound or even start at 30 pound Maxima. Most pre-made 9 foot leaders are closer to 25 pounds. The extra thick butt will make casting that wool 100% easier.

Cheers! You're absolutely right, a twisted leader in this situation also works extremely well

Nice presentation. Even though I do not like indicator fishing it was a good illustration of where the fish feeds. One warning: please do not keep the scissors upside down hanging on your chest. If you slip and fall face forward, it may injure you seriously.
