    VIDEO - High-sticking & Mending - • How to Mend Line & Cat...
    If you've watched the rest of this Beginner Fly Fishing Masterclass, we've covered what gear you need and how to use it... but where do you find trout in a river? Today, we are going to cover one of our favorite water types - pocket water. As the current moves around rocks and other obstructions, this creates a "pocket" of slower moving water. Fish love to hold in the resulting seams. This is a great place to catch tons of fish, if you know where to find them!

    Ok, this is the best breakdown of this I have ever heard bar none. I wish I had that knowledge this clear 40 years ago. Y’all have done amazing at unpacking everything about fishing. I have watched a lot of stuff but y’all have hit it out of the park. Keep it up, and if y’all ever find yourself’s in the Atlanta Metro area y’all always have a place. 😉👍

    So, your advice is to find a boulder and cast; in front of it, either side of it, behind it, and further behind it. Got it.

    This is definitely the best tutorial series for fly fishing I've seen. I really like how you guys have made this series easy to follow along with and enjoy while learning. Throwing in a little comedy here and there was nice too! lol The way you explained everything both in good detail and by making things simple made this series great. Thank you!!! I'm fishing a river with nothing but 20 foot plunge pools, and very challenging for a 70 year old to work through, but after two trips to it I've been encouraged by some (limited) slashes at the fly, but no takers. I was thinking of moving to a different type but more distant water, but the material presented here made me see my approach was far too methodical. "Work the seams then move on" means I simply should be covering more water, and that is a strategy and philosophy I hadn't yet implemented. I have a fresh mindset to take to the water next week! Thanks!

    Confirms allot of what I found in the streams around my home. Pocket water fish your feet first, and bigger gaudier flies (because the fish don't have much time to inspect fly but need to see the fly so don't be subtle) Also in warmer weather the rapids and bubby water hold more oxygen so the bigger more dominant fish will be there. My personal best brown trout came from a tight pocket on the Ruakituri river NZ 10lb and barely fitted in that pocket :)

    The real mind blower is when you start fishing everything and find trout even sitting in fast white water garbage. Eventually you learn the spots and patterns in each river but they can truly sit anywhere.

    • @venturesflyco

    Just out of curiosity do you always fish with a dry dropper?

    • @venturesflyco

      Spencer’s go to is the hopper dropper. If there are a ton of fish rising, he’ll go to just a dry. If there is no bug activity or low likelihood of fish eating off the top… he’ll resort to a nymph rig… eventually. Haha.

    • @berkler1422
      @berkler1422 2 місяці тому

      It sorta depends what kind of bass fishing you're doing. If you're hucking streamers and going after large mouth, an 8wt. is actually just about perfect. But if you're going after smallies and nymph fishing, you might have a harder time vs. having a 6wt.

      @@69adrummerWill be good for chucking poppers for top water largemouth, which is insanely fun. Don’t spend much on a reel, it’s really just a line holder. You’ll find the 8wt heavy and tiring, but it will propel big flies.
