Here is what you REALLY need to know:
1. Get on any bike. (you dont need a gravel bike)
2. Ride on a gravel track
This is why I buy Restrap products, these guys actually use what they sell AND these videos are an excellent way to promote their products. Keep up the good work.
I really enjoy your videos. Informative and entertaining. Thank you for your efforts.
Great video, excellent tips and suggestions for bag management for adventure rides.
I love gravel bike I hope one day I will buy
My gravel bike isn't very special except to me. I'm running a Poseidon Redwood that I upgraded the crankset and tires on, added a couple bags and a light and I just love it!
That's all that matters! Keep having fun and enjoying it. All bikes are gravel bikes, really ;)
One day I will have it gravel bike the best bicycle
This was valuable. Thanks! I'm trying to decide between a gravel and a MTB.
Loved the final speech....
Glad I got a gravel bike a yr agop and still haven't even scratched the surface of it
I'm glad you brought tubes but it looks like you forgot a pump lol
Great presentation. Thanks. Informative and entertaining.
What you can add into 101 version 2 video is what kind of off-road tracks gravel bike can ride on. I have really hard time to find video that shows how rocky track gravel bike can handle, and where is the limit.
This is a question with a million answers - really what this boils down to is:
- Your tyres
- Your bike
- Your skill level
In a nutshell, 'gravel' can be anything you're physically capable of riding. If you're capable, you could take on mountain bike trails and routes on a gravel bike but as a general rule you want to aim for that sweet spot where the trail would be too easy on a mountain bike and not passable on a road bike.
Rocky sections/rock gardens or technical sections will be your biggest obstacle, as a full/front suspension MTB can take it on quite easily, but a gravel bike is going to struggle.
Bike geometry is definitely all about Pythagoras and hypothenuse; all of it.
I am somewhat new to cycling. I own a gravel bike and have been riding on pavement. I ended up on a loose gravel road. I felt nervous and bike was unsteady. Will it get easier the more I ride on gravel? Thanks
probably, but you may need different tires as well depending on the surface
Go with a lower tyre pressure as well
two weeks after i sent this i had a bad slip on really loose gravel and tore my arm to hell. reminder to be careful when leaning over on unfamiliar gravel :P
@@stevesmith1810 yh I don't really go too quick on the gravel,I travel long distances and feel like it's more the adventure, not to get to A-B as fast as possible
@@reeseprince8 i was on a quick 5 mile sprint ride and decided to take the gravel route home lol, it was a mistake...i usually do longer slower rides lol
Question from a Gravel newbie: Where do yo leave your bike when you need to enter supermarket etc? You leave it unlocked outside?
If I don’t have a lock with me, I usually just take my bike into the store. I’ve never had any problems doing that where I live, but it could be different elsewhere. I live in a pretty rural area though so even a cheap lightweight bike lock is usually enough to protect your ride because it’s uncommon for people to cut bike locks here.
Loved this vid, absolutely on the mark as to what you need to consider when starting out on this money pit of an adventure 😮😂🙀
Brought myself a cheap secondhand frame off ebay 😮
Fortunately for me🤔 my son is in the business 😁
So my bike will be festooned with top end sram 'red' 'axs' 'zipp' and reverb 😎🥳
Lucky lucky me🤪
On a serious note, you could quite as easily do it on a real budget, just use the bike you have, or borrow one from a mate or neighbour (if you haven't got one, why not ask someone.🤔if you don't ask you won't get, and what's the worst that can happen is they say no??) , or there are some bike charities about, the bike kitchen in Reading is one , where they sell secondhand bikes cheap.
I think the real winners are anybody who has a bike, no mater of how expensive or cheap it is?
As long as you use it😁😎👍
I now don't run 42mm pathfinders on my 2020 Diverge - even if the "big S" say you can, scratches on the inside of fork blades and the chain stays say you can't! Now run 40mm max on my Diverge...
Thank you Mr 🐞
nice video. good information.
What light mount are you using on that bike? I’ve been looking for something I can put on the forks
This is a Paul Components Gino Light Mount :)
Nice video. Btw, just for the sake of the literary facts, mama bear's porridge was too cold...;)
What’s list price?
Is a Gravel Bike faster than a Cross Country bike? Because suspension is suppose to help you go faster isn't it? I know when I rode my cyclocross bike on gravel it was harder to control and beat the shit out of my body. I hated it.
Depends on the terrain - the rougher the terrain the more suspension is going to help you. If you're on rocky/muddy terrain then a XC bike is likely going to be faster and more comfortable over the technical terrain, but on roads and easy gravel, a gravel bike will always be faster.
lower your tire pressure, get bigger tires, or get a gravel bike with suspention...
Great 😊
whats that cap you are wearing mate ?
That's a cap for this year's Pan Celtic racers, by our good friends at Albion. They do similar caps on their store though, check them out!
@@Restrapltd heck yeah thnks they are dope!
What bike is that? That’s in the video?
The bike is a Specialized Diverge :)
This new guy is funny, more of him!
Gravel riding ? lol😂😆
i've been riding my bike/s on multiple surfaces since i was 4 years old ( now 78) ,was i riding gravel all that time and didn't know it ? 😆😎
We don't even have gravel in the UK. It's just rocky mud
lol 😂
@@Restrapltdis a lot of gravel in Suffolk
