One of the most gifted and thorough singers of the 20th century. In addition to her superb voice Eleanor Steber had a very special talent for communication with her audience. She has a great grasp of the technical aspects of the piece too and I appreciate the cleaness of the attack of each note within the legato line.

This has to be one of the definitive versions of this, from the silvery voice, to the perfect trills, to the high Cs that shine and shimmer like beacons of pure white light. . .

Steber does the aria appropriate justice. The voice is full, opulent in all registers.

A magnificent interpretation of this classic number by the late Ms. Steber, with superb backing by the Firestone Choir and Orchestra.

Direzione coro e orchestra scandalosi. Stupenda! Brava

There you go! Singing as a Valkyrie dear one! DO NOT allow the dragon-orchestra to engulf your voice like so many others! Be heroic and less sacred!

'Be heroic and less sacred' is a piece of advice that denotes a slight lack of understanding of what is being discussed in this passage from the Stabat Mater.

I think it is the most moving hymn of the liturgy... is there anything more soul-sterring than a mother watching her son agonizing thru death and then his death. O Clemns, o pia, o dulcis virgo Maria.
