      I also had the honor and pleasure of singing this magnificent work in our college choir. It is immensely pleasurable to find performances like this on You Tube. What would I do without You Tube? I can wrap myself up in the long, dark red velvet cloak of opera with the fine gold embroidery and stay so clostered until the end
      of the terrors of the wòrld..
      This performance is extraordinary. Chorus, soloists, orchestra and conductor have created a thrilling performance.

Grazie.

    How absurd is our present world! Here, in the famous La Scala, everyone is in mask and spacing, all standing and sitting in the auditorium, instead the stage. A strong experience.

      Well if this considered an excellent performance then it’s proof of the low standard of singing today. The tenor and mezzo for example would have been of standard previously heard at a local amateur performance.

    Un'emozione preziosa e che resterà nel tempo. Esecuzione bellissima. Chung, sono sicuro, avrà pensato al suo grande, indimenticato Maestro C.M. Giulini e a una sua memorabile interpretazione di questo capolavoro, in cui pure scelse, con un certo rischio, di far cantare il Quando corpus a tutto il coro. Grazie per questo dono!

    Barbera sings a lovely, lyrical Cujus Animam. However, the voice is produced solely from the throat upwards to the Mask. It is a pretty sound but without much body though it suggests it. I wonder what he might have sounded like had Barbera involved the body = core muscles?

    • @ThatOperaDude
      @ThatOperaDude 3 роки тому +3

      Well being René Barbera I can assure you my core muscles are very much involved in my singing. The vocal technique to which I subscribe does focus on singing in the mask, yes, but by no means does that suggest the rest of my body is not actively involved.
      The core muscles support the airflow and sound and what happens above that is placement. I do appreciate the compliment, however.
      I was incredibly nervous after 7 months without setting foot on stage and I am no longer used to that amount of adrenaline.

    • @ThatOperaDude
      @ThatOperaDude 3 роки тому +2

      Also worthy of note - microphones do not tell the whole story of what a voice sounds like live. I wish we could have had a live audience in the theater but alas, Covid has done away with that for the time being.

      @@ThatOperaDude Thank you for your very frank response. I am surprised because this is the first time anyone has responded - certainly in the manner and to the extent that you did. I am most favorably impressed and much appreciate that you took the time to write to me. Generally, comments of the kind that I make, are ignored - at best. It is rare, in my experience, that people devote the time to express interest in the serious subject of critique related to the vocal arts. So again, many thanks and of course, much success in your career.

      @@ThatOperaDude as a singer, not at your level of course, I can attest to your statement about microphones. They take away a great percentage of overtones making the sound more muffled and weirdly metallic. In fact, if someone records me live, even from a phone but distant, the sound is much more vibrant.
      It is said that many times, people like Corelli and Del Monaco for example, placed the mics behind them!
      Because of tv production, mics are placed close to the singer when in fact, if they were placed far away, you would hear much more heft in all the performers.
      Maybe I’m wrong but to me it seems this way.

    Az ázsiai származású karmester profi módon és együttérzéssel vezényli az európai művet. Ez a felvétel nemcsak azért értékes, mert a művészek kiválóak, hanem abból a szempontból is, mert bátran dokumentálja a 21. század eddigi legnagyobb emberiségellenes botrányát.

    This one really sums it the hell up- conductor, La Scala orchestra and singers with their worthless faces bagged up and ritually humiliated and mocked. People who would do _that_ indicate their lack of insight and judgement, and hence aesthetic and artistic limitations. An end of an era indeed. At least the mask shows outwardly what people really are without having to bother meeting them.

    This conductor betrays the fact that he is a pianist who never needed to breathe to produce a sound. His arm almost never helps the ensemble coördinate the breath before an attack. The chorus certainly does NOT appreciate having to guess when to breath before naked attacks, and they can be forgiven for discrepancies in the ensemble. Mr. Chung gives NO indication of where to place the syllables in crucial passages. HIs deficiencies are most apparent in the a cappella movement; observe from 34:10 to the end.
    Mr. Chung's recordings of Beethoven trios with his sisters are perfectly coördinated, but I suspect that's because the Chungs had been playing Beethoven trios in their living room from childhood.

    Direzione pulita e sentita. Bene il coro e l'orchestra. Soprano e tenore, bravi. Il mezzosoprano non è all'altezza di questa produzione. Il bass-baritono non ha propriamente un bel colore di voce ma tecnicamente cerca di difendersi... Non sempre ci riesce.
