Battlefield 2 was my personal fav BF game of all time because at the time, it was absolutely state-of-the-art graphical fidelity for its time, it is still to this day, the most complete Battlefield game ever made, it had BOT support / MOD support / LAN Support / MAP Editor / The BattleRecorder / Eventually it had fully unlocked 64 player maps for singleplayer and coop / It had the Commander Mode which is massively missed now / and was set in the modern era. To me, there has never been a Battlefield game ever released that was a more complete experience for everybody then Battlefield 2 (until BF2042). Wish you woulda showed off some of the BattleRecorder stuff because that was just absolutely incredible, being able to watch your past battlefield matches, freely roaming the camera all over the entire map, with pause and slow-motion functionality, with the smallest file sizes of all time for something thats recording the entire 20-30 minute match, could be used in both MP and SP vs BOTs. It was the ultimate capture tool for capturing some of your most iconic moments in Battlefield, and the dumped it. For absolutely no reason. It's never made a return and has only ever been seen in BF2.
I remember getting battlefield 2 at a swap meet for just 5 bucks, a month after it was released. The seller said it didn't work for his computer so I took it. I love playing Battlefield 2142, that titan mode was the greatest and I was so good driving that walker And yes I did enjoy Firestorm for a while
I will never forget playing the BF1942 demo for the first time. I was 15 years old. It was one of those weekends when me and a couple of friends shlepped all our gaming equipment (including super heavy tube monitors) into one of our friend's basement. The moment one of my friends asked if we wanted to try the demo of that new WW2 game together, all other games became irrelevant that night. It was super fun even though it only had one map (Wake Island). BF1942 was also the first game I've played online some time later and some of my best memories of my first days in online gaming are thanks to the BF Pirates mod. I'm still social media friends with some of the guys I've met playing BF Pirates in the early/mid 2000s. Glorious times.
1942s naval combat is still unmatched in the series and 2s commander mode/spec ops sabotaging assets will always be the highlight for me. BC2 was great, but sadly the last great game in the series, hopefully this new one can capture some of that magic back.
BF4 was awesome except for the bugs and frequently getting kicked from the server. My favorite is still BF3 the suppression thing wasn't too bad you just had to git gud and I only played on the hard-core servers so I never had to deal with health regeneration. Biggest draw back from BF3 for me was the very possible spawn camping
I played so much of it until recently when I got a ps5. But one thing I could never shake was the bullet spread.... You could barely hit anything half of the time. Plus the snipers didn't really differ between each other very much.
Such a great series. I'm sad I missed out on 1942 and Vietnam and started on BF2. 2142 is my favorite and I think Hardline is the most underrated. Hardline was fantastic.
firestorm had a good concept, the ring of fire i think is the best of the BR ring closers but the game itself was poorly executed, it just didn't feel like you were playing BF or a real BR, just a mash of the two
Also it was only available if you had bought the game, it wasn't Free to Play. That alone was going to kill it. I know people who worked on it and they were hugely frustrated that it wasn't made FTP.
You just ignore the fact that people were upset at BFV having the british female character with a metal claw for a hand buzzed down guys with a thompson submachine gun and chock it up to Misogyny? Yep, it was just people hating women, that's the reason, nothing else.
I've played Battlefield 1, 2, 3 and 4, but Bad Company 2 is still the best because they simplified the game, and it seems like that's the approach Dice are taking with 2042 as well.
Loving the comments guys, hope you enjoyed the video. Bummed 2042 got delayed but seems like they could use the extra time to iron out the kinks. Beta soon though!! Who's excited? Edit: Get rekt Battlefield Heroes (jk jk)
Battlefield 4 is also my favorite btf game. Came out between graduating 8th grade and high school. So much fun. Hardline is under rated games heist was so much fun and listening to the music from the vehicles. Such good memories.
Battlefield Bad Company will always have a special place in my heart. It came out during the summer time right before I started high school. I remember playing I all day and night.
Lol seriously. "Elephant in the room;" they hardly addressed the issues with the game and wrote off a majority of it to the "misogyny" of the fan base.
@@UrbaneLegend right, so instead you write us off as "tilted." Your company have any PR training you missed? After all, we are living in the post MeToo / Gamergate era. Perhaps if you could be bothered, look up Operation Gunnerside and draw the parallels between that and the mother daughter heavy water mission in BFV's campaign. "I have never played bf 2142...but it sounds awesome as hell!" Trust me it was. Especially the moment when the core was destroyed and everyone was running for his life.
Honestly firestorm was my favorite battle royale when you could still find matches. It had its issues like the clunky looting/inventory, but it nailed the feeling of scavenging to survive in a warzone full of hostiles. The animations of friendlies occasionally stumbling in their spring and doing natural idle and reaction animations just made it feel so cinematic and grandiose, despite its smaller player count compared to other BRs. It should have been a free to play addition like warzone and it would have at least gained a reliable cult following.
That was a great video and brought back great memories! Especially the music from Bad Company. I honestly can’t decide which one I like the most. Played the hell out of all the console games. V and Hardline were my least favorite tho. The rest I put in so much time. Just recently stop playing BF4. Still play BF1. Best part to me was putting C4 charges on vehicles and jumping off of the to run into vehicles or the gold cates in gold rush. Eventually they put a patch to not make the gold crates blow up fast. Again great video
26:35 This is a lazy and misinformed take. Most of the criticism was on the unrealistic depiction of women in a WW2 setting, not the existence of women as you've tried to suggest. It's common knowledge that women did fight in WW2, in the Eastern Front and as resistance fighters in general. You neglected to mention that female soldiers featured in Battlefield 1 as a playable class in the locations and contexts you would expect to see them (In the Name of the Tsar) and, guess what, there was no outrage about their inclusion. You also failed to mention the disrespectful rewriting of history in the Nordlys campaign mission. Overall, not impressed with your coverage of Battlefield V (or 1).
I would argue that even the mild distinction you’re attempting to make here has misogynistic undertones (by the player base that shares those sentiments not necessarily by yourself). Point is, it’s a fucking video game! Who gives a shit?! Let’s be critical of whether or not the game is fun and honors the legacy of what made previous installments memorable. I never recall EA/DICE touting BF5 as “the most historically accurate WW2 shooter you’ll EVER play”. As such, the historical inaccuracies of women on the frontlines didn’t prevent me from enjoying BF5 any more than the story of a ragtag band of Jewish-American commandos who killed Hitler did in the movie Inglorious Bastards.
@@crispyflix wow. way to not engage the points made, wave a wand of "it's misogyny" and reduce it to "there's no point in having a point because video games". there are no undertones here, the points being made are clear and you aren't seemingly capable of talking about them.
@@bobby_c07 My man, I literally addressed how I think the plight over “historical inaccuracies in video games“ is a ridiculous hill anyone should choose to die on but go on…
BF2 was my first BF, so it holds a special place in my heart. Thanks to the modding community on PC, we now have full 64 player offline bot matches. They had to reverse engineer the navigation meshes the AI uses to get around the map and fight. We now have the hardware to run 64 player bot maps with full vehicles compared to when it originally released, too.
Although I've got more hours out of BF4, BF1 is my favourite. I've never been more immersed and hyped. It felt definitively "next gen" and had a very unique setting.
MW2 was the first real FPS I played on console. I played BF4 at launch on PC and being my first BF game it holds a special place for me. Yes the game had issues with netcode and servers at launch but after about a month or so most of that was smoothed out. I've played BF4 recently as well. BF1 is a game that I put a lot of hours into completely as a solo player. I loved it, the war stories brought some somber realizations to what war was actually like in WW1 and the multiplayer was fantastic making me feel like I was living through war history. I only got BFV about a month or so ago while it was on sale to kill time for 2042. I originally didn't get BFV due to a lot of the nay-saying around its historical inaccuracies and my interest in other games at the time. Man, I wish I had gotten into BFV when it was new, I've really enjoyed my time put in over the last few weeks (maybe due to it feeling like a new game to me and my excitement for a new BF game). BF4 is probably my favorite of the three that I've really played, but I like some of the quality of life changes in BFV (such as the way some vehicles are spawned). I'm still excited for 2042 regardless of the specialists. DICE typically fixes major issues over time, they're good devs. I just hope they can reason with EA to listen to the players for the better. Either way I'll be playing all three modes available.
Might be a bit reductive to boil the comments regarding women in WW2 down to misogyny. It was the double discourse of telling the players on one hand that the game strived to be gritty and realistic, and on the other that historical accuracy should be relegated to the backstage to allow modern socio-political views to be pushed forward. They could've done it better and more elegantly, introducing those same women in the game had they just had a single coherent message.
except the notion they were pushing socio-political views simply wasn't true. they just wanted to expand their marketplace to include woman, because that means more money for them. it was just flavor of the month reactionary nonsense. the people who claimed about realism were perfectly fine with every other unrealistic nonsense that battlefield has.
I wouldn’t say that people pointing out women fighting on the front lines of Ww2 is misogynistic. It was a very rare occurrence. The big problem became when people pointed this one of the games directors went after the fans saying they were stupid and didn’t understand history.
Think you got the wrong idea from the battlefield V reaction. The reaction was to the prosthetic the woman had in the game. Something that was clearly something the army would not send back to war. The whole misogyny came around because the devs were upset that people could not accept women in ww2 setting so people were listing references to women in ww2. The director of battlefield V openly said that his daughter didn't like that strong women were not in the battlefield series so he made sure it was. Even the beginning of the release was terrible with massive issues like desync and bad hit detection and the first thing that was shoved into people's laps were terrible clothing and low ammo being a constant issue. You would be handed 3 clips for an assault rifle and be out within 1 fight. Firestorm made the true battlefield veterans mad because it just was not at all tested or even hashed out before release. The devs even delayed map and weapon releases while they finished firestorm which wasn't available until months later. But because there were bugs still the game mode suffered and dice didn't really ad onto it. DICE gave up on BFV around the same time the battlefront 2 was dropping future dlc. They released pretty much every gun they had which was just annoying to find so many guns that could have made the game so much more fun had been held back.
Honourable mention must go to "Desert Combat". It was a full conversion mod for 1942. It basically took the desert maps and replaced all the models for soldiers, guns and vehicles with modern equipment (they even made a flyable C130 Spectre as a mobile spawn point before it was cool). It was so influential that it basically gave DICE the idea for BF2. So much so that they bought the company behind the mod so they could help make BF2 (we shall not mention that DICE then shuttered said studio straight after its release and put people out of work!).
im very optimistic that BF 2042 will be one of the best BF games of all time. BF4 is my favorite as far as the way it plays and BF 2042 looks very similar to me.
Nah. Reveal trailer was cool but the more and more they show I get turned off the game. Gameplay doesn’t look that great and absolutely hate the specialist idea - main character syndrome at it’s finest. It’s just not battlefield. Also HUD is ugly af and has few maps. Overall I’m very hesitant and think it will be a letdown and not the best ever.
27:04 bit optimistic for 2042 considering we haven't seen any raw representative gameplay with a launch one month away which is unprecedented for the franchise if not gaming as a whole these days. In fact it got delayed one extra month and if you think that means it will be in a good state at launch you haven't payed attention.
Calling the Battlefield 1942 expansions "DLC" is down right insulting. PS: this video sounds like it was written by a teen who never played the original games. Btw no mention of the insanely cool Desert Combat mod for Battlefield 1942
BF V was a f****** amazing game, the game just suffered from people that wanted a modern shooter + people that got salty about the game not being 100% historically accurate. And from that point more and more people just assumed it was a bad game.
Grew up playing Battlefield 2 and from then on moved on to bad company 2 and 2142. It wasn't until 2019/2020 when I got a better PC that I moved to BF3, BF1 and BF4. Enjoyed all of those.
I loved Bad Company 2, but Battlefield 3 takes the crown for me. This was the best battlefield in my honest opinion. I liked battlefield 4, it was good but it never felt as good as 3. Battlefield 1 was alright but it faded quickly for me. Didn’t play battlefield 5 didn’t look good and I’m glad I didn’t get it.
What you've said perfectly describes my time playing Battlefield games. I liked BC2 a lot, and absolutely loved BF3. But after that I slowly lost interest. Now I'm hoping 2024 because I want to give it a shot.

I'm very glad they called out the BF4 launch issues. People also forget how janky BF3 was at release also but BF4 was something else. Kudos needs to go out to DICE LA for sorting that out. They basically pulled the game out of the mud by sheer willpower and basically saved the whole series.
Yeah the way they talked about BF5 in this video is not how Gamespot would have done back in the day. Crazy to see the difference between Gen X spot and Millennial Game spot.
I own and still play every battlefield game ever made. Some, like Vietnam, are dead games. All servers are down with zero revive programs. While others like 1942 still having running or revived servers. And there is 2142, with both revived servers and an add-on that improves graphics, audio, animations, and general gameplay.
You forgot to mention Battlefield Play4Free and Battlefield Heroes. BF P4F was a really nice way to replay the BF2 maps whit some graphics upgrades at the time, had so much fun with it, too bad it died.
I enjoyed Firestorm. It wasn’t perfect, but it had a fresh take on the BR format with destruction and BFVs excellent gunplay. I think the community didn’t give it a proper chance IMO
what killed my enjoyment in BFV was the number of cheaters in the asian region. there were so many and even if you report them, i think no action was taken on them. right now with BF 2042 coming, i hope they address it, otherwise i think i will leave the series.

Also modding was pretty easy, we made a mod with my friends and kept updating it constantly. Like your very own game pretty much.
It is also possible to catch hacker using battlerecorder (with or without demo analyzer). Very usefull.
I remember getting battlefield 2 at a swap meet for just 5 bucks, a month after it was released. The seller said it didn't work for his computer so I took it.
I love playing Battlefield 2142, that titan mode was the greatest and I was so good driving that walker
And yes I did enjoy Firestorm for a while
I will never forget playing the BF1942 demo for the first time.
My favourite bf of all time has to be bf3, absolutely smashed that game and it just revolutionised battlefield, the graphics still hold up today
BF2 was so influential back in the day, still holds up today and looks decent for a 2005 game.
Best Battlefield game
I played so much of it until recently when I got a ps5. But one thing I could never shake was the bullet spread.... You could barely hit anything half of the time. Plus the snipers didn't really differ between each other very much.
@@EmirAbdKadder Imo the gameplay was much more tactical without everyone being super soldier. You would have to stop to get accurate shots.
I grew up on battlefield 4 and battlefield 1, I freaking love it
I've played Battlefield 1, 2, 3 and 4, but Bad Company 2 is still the best because they simplified the game, and it seems like that's the approach Dice are taking with 2042 as well.
Unpopular opinion, I always found this franchise better than Cod.
Always has been
Most of its realistic gameplay concepts except some games like bt V, they're really good
Not even close to an unpopular opinion.
Bfv was really the only bad apple so not really an unpopular opinion I think.
I’m gonna say it, battlefield 3 and battlefield 4 are among the best games from the series in their prime. Bf4 is still packed though.
25 full servers still on PS4 today on a weekday afternoon
@@clamcrewcarclub6017 xbox has a little less or equal to that but they literally all have waits to get in. it’s beautiful go see
Loving the comments guys, hope you enjoyed the video. Bummed 2042 got delayed but seems like they could use the extra time to iron out the kinks. Beta soon though!! Who's excited?
Edit: Get rekt Battlefield Heroes (jk jk)
Im going to buy a ps5 especially to play 2042 man. Guess ill play hell let loose till nov19
I remember playing 1942 when I was a kid, if I had to guess I was 7-9 years old when I played it.
Battlefield 4 is also my favorite btf game. Came out between graduating 8th grade and high school. So much fun. Hardline is under rated games heist was so much fun and listening to the music from the vehicles. Such good memories.
Thank you soo much I have been searching the internet for this
Battlefield hardline was the most underrated game ever. I played over 300 hours of it. But unfortunately servers are dead now. I will never forget it.
Not really into multiplayer games that much but Battlefield 1 is the most fun I had since the days of COD 4.
am i the only mfer that played Battlefield 2: Modern Combat? the console variant of BF2 with a campaign. most underrated battlefield out there.
Battlefield Bad Company will always have a special place in my heart. It came out during the summer time right before I started high school. I remember playing I all day and night.
BF2, Bad Company 1/2, BF3 and 4 will always have a special place in my heart
What an anemic critique of BF5 lmao
Lol seriously. "Elephant in the room;" they hardly addressed the issues with the game and wrote off a majority of it to the "misogyny" of the fan base.
Yeah sorry, I'm not tilted enough by BFV to critique it as much as you guys were probably hoping for
@@UrbaneLegend right, so instead you write us off as "tilted." Your company have any PR training you missed?
We wouldn't expect anyone in this "politically aware" industry to give BFV the critique it deserved, but its all too typical for you "journalists" to solely write off BFV's missteps on the "misogyny" of the fan base. After all, we are living in the post MeToo / Gamergate era. Perhaps if you could be bothered, look up Operation Gunnerside and draw the parallels between that and the mother daughter heavy water mission in BFV's campaign. That mission, ALONE, vindicates the concerns of the fans that were blatantly ignored and written off as "misogynistic."
I'm sure you'll have a "compelling" review of the BF2042 beta I'll be waiting for... you f*cking clown.
Most significant historical event and you go un historical, then attack people who don't agree with you. What could go wrong...
"I have never played bf 2142...but it sounds awesome as hell!" Trust me it was. Especially the moment when the core was destroyed and everyone was running for his life.
Holy crap I enjoyed this video... I only realized after it was gamespot! Well done presenter. Please keep up this more personable style of video
bf 2 is the best battlefield of all time , so good it's still being played and it's maps remade 2 twice. and spawned games like squad.
Best or most influential ?
@@Hasbulla761 Both
Honestly firestorm was my favorite battle royale when you could still find matches.
BF3 was my favorite in the Franchise!
same
Battlefield 4 was my introduction to the battlefield series.
That was a great round up of Battlefield games. Thank you, I really enjoyed it. Onward to 2042, see you on the Battlefield soldiers!
Battlefield 2 destroyed my social life. Worth it.
Well bf2 playerbase is a community whuch have social life of its own we still play online 😊

This is a lazy and misinformed take.
@@crispyflix You can argue whatever you want, weakling. We know from where you're coming from.
@@paralleluniverse99 ok cool thanks
@@crispyflix wow. way to not engage the points made, wave a wand of "it's misogyny" and reduce it to "there's no point in having a point because video games". there are no undertones here, the points being made are clear and you aren't seemingly capable of talking about them.
@@bobby_c07 My man, I literally addressed how I think the plight over “historical inaccuracies in video games“ is a ridiculous hill anyone should choose to die on but go on…
Thanks for this special video ❤️
BF2 was my first BF, so it holds a special place in my heart. Thanks to the modding community on PC, we now have full 64 player offline bot matches. They had to reverse engineer the navigation meshes the AI uses to get around the map and fight. We now have the hardware to run 64 player bot maps with full vehicles compared to when it originally released, too.
U can also play online too people still play bf2 online
Just so you know, everytime you say "Jeep Stuff™" you owe NeebsGaming 5 dollars.
Although I've got more hours out of BF4, BF1 is my favourite. I've never been more immersed and hyped. It felt definitively "next gen" and had a very unique setting.
Also Hardline is so underrated
im sooo glad u gave bfbc2 the recognition it deserves
Battlefield 2 is the best battlefield ever made. Anyone who disagrees is under 25 😑
Might be a bit reductive to boil the comments regarding women in WW2 down to misogyny.
I’m not sure such a smart and well written comment should be attached to such an average video :)
except the notion they were pushing socio-political views simply wasn't true. they just wanted to expand their marketplace to include woman, because that means more money for them. it was just flavor of the month reactionary nonsense. the people who claimed about realism were perfectly fine with every other unrealistic nonsense that battlefield has.
31:10 Bruh seeing a guy shank someone then get tased by dephibulator killed me.😂
I wouldn’t say that people pointing out women fighting on the front lines of Ww2 is misogynistic. It was a very rare occurrence. The big problem became when people pointed this one of the games directors went after the fans saying they were stupid and didn’t understand history.
I couldn’t agree more, they only included women because they didn’t want to attacked by certain game critics
@@chriswyatt9869 well you may be right but i certainly hope not for everybody's sake lol.
I miss when battlefield 4 and mw3 were going head to head , those games were so cool back in the day lol

You missed my favorite version of Battlefield! The amazingly approachable Battlefield Heroes!
Firestorm is fun but not being free to play and not being updated regularly absolutely killed it
Always loved BF, stand out games for me 1942/BF2/4/1 & Bad company 1/2 , looking forward to 2042 in the morning !
@@JerryKosloski Yeah, I forgot to mention hardline didn’t buy that game and well I forgot tells how much I thought about as well lol. Yeah if this game can deliver then I’m all for it, especially the portal mode id love to see battlefield 3 with some updated graphics. Not knocking on BF3 that game still holds up in my opinion to this day.
BF is THE game for me and has been since 1942 . I have spent years in the games. BF2 was the biggy, with BF4 , BF1 and BF3 coming if very very close. Hardline was pants, and BF 5 I have struggled to get into.. Was so pleased when 2042 came out on trial, it was brilliant even though it was supposedly an old version. PS, I'll be playing on Series X and PC. BRING IT.....
I wonder when they'll finally reveal Hazard Zone for BF 2042
Battlefield V's Firestorm was fun in it self, but it suffered heavily from V's Visibility Problem.
man BF2142 was so damn good
Truly one of the best in the series.
Grew up on Battlefield 4 and 1? I feel old now. I do love 4 though 👍🏻
i owe battlefield play4free for dragging my ass into the battlefield franchise
You're still making history videos?! I lost all hope you would keep this series going!
Please keep it going! There are pasar videos that DESPERATELY need an update given new developments!
My favourite series is back - "The History of" by GameSpot (I hope so). The episodes from the earlier series are missing from the channel. Luckily, I downloaded many episodes and kept those safe. You all should do an episode on "Age of Empires" as new entry of the series is released today. And love you guys, keep up the good work.
Battlefieeeeeld just release something todaaaaaay.
Would love an updated sequel to 2142!
Ah the nostalgia of listening to the original Battlefield 1942 theme music
Frankly Battlefield vs Portal sounds amazing.
I skipped both of those for Reasons, but I'm glad you liked them!
I loved 1943 on Xbox360 and still willing to hop in to a game. Sad I missed 2142 as well.
Great job, thank you.
