This Trooper is one of my Favourite Life Guards. He appears in many Videos. He seems a little older than many of the Young Troopers in both Regiments & with age comes Wisdom in any long Serving Soldier. He also understands the PR part of his Job, I have seen him tell Children & their Parents to come closer to have their Photos taken & he always acknowledges the Thank yous' he receives with a slight smile & nod of his head. The Infantry Men at Buckingham, Kensington & St James Palaces, The Tower, Clarence House & Windsor are called Guardsmen. They are the ones in Ceremonial Bearskins & Red Tunics. The Cavalrymen at Horse Guards work on a One hour on & two hour off Roster. So the Troopers on Horseback do 1 hr on the Horse, then do another hour dismounted. Did you think they work 1 hr & go back to Barracks? The only ones who aren't called Trooper are Officers & those who work looking after the Horses, they are called either Stableman or Strappers.

I have done such work, but never in such a public setting. Even then, I had to deal with idiot tourists, morons who could not keep their hands to themselves, and people who simply could not understand that some things should not be done, public or no.
What a LOT of people do not realize is that while these soldiers are dressed in historically accurate uniforms and trained to basically stand there and do nothing, they ARE serving soldiers and they have a duty to perform. Cross their duty at your peril. It has been shown lots of places. King's Guard around the palace in the UK, Old Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in the US, other units in other places, no matter where they are do NOT assume that because they look funny that they are not paying attention and/or are harmless. IT WILL HURT.
    'nuff said.

For those questioning he saw a suitcase that appeared unattended. He checked to see who it belonged to.
I mean come on if you have to stand in a crowd in this place with a big suitcase or any large bag keep your hands on it.
He was being careful doing his job and if he had ignored assuming it was innocent that could be the one time it was serious.
Yes I still remember the London bombings and I like many Londoners were back on the tube, trains and buses the following days. I remember at Kings Cross just a couple of days after this stupid woman left her suitcase unnattended. I alerted the nearest policeman and when she finally appeared the group of police waiting gave her a right telling off. Sigh stupid is as stupid does.

Exactly. No one should forget the Hyde Park and Regent's Park bombings of 1982. Eleven soldiers and seven horses lost their lives in those incidents. One horse, badly injured managed to pull through. His name was Sefton. The Guards are rightly vigilant about unattended backpacks, parcels and other paraphernalia. No one wishes to see that carnage again.

People should switch on their brains by now if they are going to such a place where soldiers and police are also on duty.
It was not for nothing that the soldier asked the people about the bag. Especially because it is quite strange to be standing in such a place with such a large suitcase instead of leaving it in the hotel.
I would also be suspicious if there wasn't a bomb in it.
You shouldn't play it down either. Terrorist actions can take place anywhere and it is certainly no fun for the soldiers.
