      While I agree that tourists should not be allowed to touch the horses, they cannot be blamed for touching the horses while they are permitted to do so. They aren’t doing anything legally wrong and they’ll continue to pet the horses until someone much higher up decides to change the rules.

Only a single sign in one language. Did the guard do anything wrong? No, its not up to him stop and wonder if the gentleman reads English. However nor is it up to sanctimonious jackanapes to jump to conclusion without the benefit of conscious, intelligent, impartial observation. It’s not “common sense”. Common sense is sound and prudent judgment based on experience and understanding of the facts. It’s also influenced by culture. Many people know nothing at all about horses, bridles, reins, or any tack, except what they might have seen on TV or on the movies. You’re not the first to say it’s “like grabbing the steering wheel when someone is driving a car”, but in fact it’s nothing of the sort and that’s a very bad analogy. Anyone knows not to interfere with the wheel WHEN THE CAR IS MOVING, but why should they not put their hands on the wheel when the car is stationary? Apart from tossing their heads around, the horses are usually stationary too.

    • @Kimberly-dn4mc
      @Kimberly-dn4mc 10 місяців тому +6

      @@Bandomeme
      My comment is my own personal opinion, just as you have yours, and I respect that they are your own thoughts, your opinion. If one doesn't understand something or how it works, they should stay clear of it, and certainly not grab at it. The reins on a horse aren't there just to look good, they are the means to direct these horses, same as having a dog on a leash. Would you just run up and grab the dogs leash? That's a good way to end up with a nasty bite! The horses don't stay "stationary" when someone pulls or yanks on their reins. They at times react even before the guard does. It's not factual that "anyone" knows not to grab the steering wheel when someone else is driving, as is evident by the fact that there have been many accidents over the years because of someone doing just that. What it all boils down to is, don't touch the reins ever, for any reason! It's so simple really.

    • @Bandomeme
      @Bandomeme 10 місяців тому

      @@Kimberly-dn4mc you’re missing the point completely. It’s only simple if you are familiar with horses and know what bits of tack do what, as you obviously are and do. Many, if not most, people aren’t. Nor do they equate the suicidal grabbing of the steering wheel of a car in motion with posing for a photo while holding of a bit of leather dangling from a stationary horse. Never mind. It’s not that important in the general scheme of things and I’m very sure the MOD and VisitBritain can manage their affairs very well without our comments from the sidelines.

      @Bandomeme 10 місяців тому

      Actually they often do try to thank the guard but s/he is seated high up and frequently looking the other way, so the opportunity is lost. I’m perfectly sure the tourists here do NOT think the guards are paid actors just because they’re allowed to take photos next to them and pat the horse. They’re allowed to take photos next to policemen in uniform too, and next to Pearly Kings and Queens, none of whom are paid actors either. The difference lies in the fact that sightseers cannot talk to the guards or establish any kind of relationship with them. In fact, not talking to the guards is a form of respect as it’s well known they are on duty and shouldn’t be distracted.

    That guy knew exactly what he was doing, the rules are simple and clear to anyone, all know that the reins are for guiding the horse and him grabbing them was no mistake . He had a smirk on his face when walking back and the guy with them spoke english and said reins so he knew. The Police need to start fining or arresting anyone now who grabs the reins chain or bridle area. The sooner that happens the sooner the word gets out and less will try it. Mind you there will always be the ENTITLED who will try because as we know rules don't apply to them.

      The guy made a mistake, it's really that simple. He's learned his lesson and probably won't do it again.
      There should be a paint line around the guard's area that says do not cross. The line itself is a universal sign that this area is marked off for a reason. There should also be signs saying don't approach the horses. If everyone else isn't getting close then people that don't speak the language usually aren't going to do it either.
      You really don't need to be right up next to them to get a picture with them anyway.
