- so uhhh i swear i filmed a version where i was talking to a camera but then i remembered i have anxieties with putting my face on the internet ha h a so yeah hope this style isn't too boring or weird or anything,, anyways i hope this video made some sense and was helpful and if you have any thoughts or questions feel free to leave them in the comments!! or hmu on ig uvub
good luck with your admissions!!
some side stuff i forgot to mention in the video:
♦ i didn't get any scholarships from risd bc i'm international student ;; buut i did get a pretty decent sized scholarship from saic ! risd's my first choice tho so :( hello student debt
♦ my portfolio was accepted by saic on portfolio day which is quite nice bc it took a lot of pressure off the commonapp portion hehe unfortunately the line for risd was too long so i couldn't meet with them that day ;( but yeah that's another benefit of portfolio day! i was missing some stuff from the pratt portfolio requirements but if i had them i probably wouldve gotten accepted at pratt during portfolio day too :')
also maybe subscribe if you wanna see more videos...? 😳😳👉👈

Your piece with the boy laying in the forest got me really emotional.
Your portfolio is an experience. It feels like I didn't just watch, but I also go through someone's story. The last piece made the most huge impact, in my opinion. Your works are pretty conceptual and allegorical---totally different from most of the portfolio videos I've seen. You inspired me even more. You're awesome.
This actually made me want to do pieces that really reflect my feelings and emotions. And i kinda dont like it when artist say that, it's "cheesy". Because i know, you like it, YOU PUT YOUR HEART AND TIME INTO it. And its just sad that we have to says such things towards the things that we love just for the people. I don't know, my chain of thoughts dissappear 😅. But, i know you enjoy the theme and its okay if we put our personal emotions in an artwork. I love it. 💖
there’s just something different that sets your portfolio apart from others. like others feel technically skilled, of course, but flat in a way and yours is technically skilled AND has a lot of life. not to talk bad about others, because you have to really put in the work to get into RISD in the first place. But you’re going places!
your pieces so astonishing!! wowowow
ugh your art is so beautiful and i love the way you use color
Your work is all astounding. The stories behind each are so well thought. I’m not even an American student but I just love watching these videos. This was one of the best I’ve seen. Congratulations ❤️
STOP your portfolio really inspired me and just looks so beautiful and emotional 😭 I can tell I really need to improve but in a good way. This moved me too much lmaoo
I love the theme of Going back to the past or time in general and the way you portray it differently each time.
The music matched so well with the video! It enhanced the “emotionalness” of all your pieces!
this is frankly the best portfolio video i've seen on youtube, changed my perspective on how to approach my portfolio. thank you
I’ve seen other portfolio videos and you have the most authentic reasoning and analysis of your own work! Other people were just talking up their pieces and less authentic and you could tell. Well done!
the how to turn back the clock one, made me very emotional. I recently lost my favorite chicken because my neighbor accidentally let their dog out... I've been wanting to turn back time, and i keep reliving seeing my chickens life be shaken out of itself.
These pieces really resonated with me, and it was amazing to see a lot of my own anxieties about time/meaning reflected in them. Loved it
wow love your portfolio super impressive and creative
i specially like how you use your narrative skills to translate your philosophy and perspective
absolutely love your art! i've just recently gotten into art a year ago and i only got two years until college applications but i'm giving my all so i can improve as much as possible and make it in, thanks for inspiring me so much!!
omg congrats in getting in (I'm so sorry that this is 3 years late and we're graduating next year) but omg so exciting that you got in!!!
You are beyond naturally talented, I’m working on my art portfolio too !
aw thank you good luck with yours!!
I think it’s amazing!!! Your works are so strong and deep emotional, thank you for video❣️
YOOOOO first of all I love how you did the little doodles for your video as well as made each description short and sweet. Also loved the pieces themselves! When I saw that SAT score though I was like HUHHHHHHHH
aw thank youuu sldkfjdk
your portfolio is amazing and you're super adorable
my fav person and my fav type of vibes this video has blessed me
ur a blessing alskdjflkdjs
Looks like you've got yourself a new art form, experimenting with your art stories through youtube commentary. Godspeed in your newfound hobby.
I love your artworks especially the watercolor painting u made💕
THIS IS SO GREAAAT!!! congraaattss🥳❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❗️
It may not seem like much, but thank you so much for making this walkthrough so relaxing in general. I had a great time watching this.
hi! i want to apply to an art school too and I'm watching so many videos like this to prepare myself. it really sucks when all the good art schools are out of Canada for an art kid like me too ;-; risd should seriously consider international scholarships
riiight it do b like that ;(( there are a few schools that give merit scholarships for internationals (like saic) but yeah,, good luck with your applications !!
m a L hey dude ! I’m living in Canada too, it kinda sucks how the states have more art schools but there are still a fair amount in bigger cities like Vancouver and Toronto !
alexgraff_art yeah!! there’s ocad in toronto but i don’t know much about. vancouver since i don’t live there. (i’d LOVE to it’s such a beautiful place, best vibes)
There’s a really good school in Canada named VanArts, I went to their seminar and they are considered one of the best art schools in the world
@@bug3292 oh? thank you, ill check them out! :)
Girl you made my cry it's soooo good
your portfolio is amazing!!!!
Congratulations on your acceptance!! :)) and thank you for the tips!!
this deserves so many more views
Ahh hiii I’m back again,, u have no idea how inspirational
and amazing ur work is! ✨
The blue clock cut-out in your ‘wheres the undo button’ piece is found in Glasgow, Scotland, where I go to Art school! I thought I recognised it
oh hey, cool ! I don't even remember which magazine I cut it out from anymore haha but it's very pretty :)
your painting skill is really good >0
aw thank you! good luck with your portfolio!!
@@miqiiu268 thanks! I was wondering what paper you use for your watercolor pieces? I was wondering if Bristol paper work.
@@junyilin6766 I use decently thick watercolour paper for my watercolour pieces. I did a little research and it seems to me that bristol paper doesn't have the same level of water absorption that could mess with the watercolours, but I've never used it before so I won't be able to say much more than that sorry :')) i suggest you do a little more research! there's a lot of info online available :))
How do you only have 900 subscribers ???? YOUR SO TALENTEDD
congrats on risd! (class of 23 here) love ur work!!
Wow! I absolutely love it. It’s amazing how all your works have a meaning and it’s wonderful to see such a young artist with so much to say! You’re such an inspiration girl, wish you all the best
9:56 the most depressing ones have such deep meaning and are good food for thought, nice explanation of this piece !
I love your video style ✨
This is such a lovely portfolio and I love this video.!
Congratulations on being accepted!
This is so amazing omggg
you are incredible!! ✨
your art is gorgeous
I really want to get to RISD when I’m older, and this is so helpful as a reference for my future portfolio!
i want to get into risd when im order too, but student debt is nottt something I want to play with and their tuition is so expensive :”( sad
Hi I love how you explain your pieces and meanings and I was just wondering if you could show or explain your sustained investigation? I would be so interested to see how you approached it!!
When u talked about being accepted to both schools my brain imagined:
*a movie plot of somone doing that and a friend of theirs uses your identity to attend the school you didn’t choose cuz their grades wouldn’t have gotten them in and they didn’t care that your name would be on the diploma cuz they wanted to go for the art learning experiences and social scene of making new artsy friends more than a piece of paper. And the while movie would be based on making sure neither of the schools got notified that you were technically enrolled in the other at the same time.*
Edit: that would be very illegal irl tho
You are so talented!
im definitely going to start working seriously on my portfolio ,, i have an idea for a piece but the hard part is actually doing it :( i hate still life, so im definitely excited for other ideas
your art is amazing, it reminds me of the art from the game dixit.
i love this !!!!!
4 years later and ur graduating this year lol, ur one of the ppl encouraging me to apple in the fall! Thanks!
woah, thats so crazy to think about. good luck with your applications!!
you have a very good hand for art, nice style
I love your art! XD
i graduated kinda late in HS and did not take art classes only in freshman year it's not ever too late to work on your portfolio? it's 2021 of march and I'm looking into colleges to attend and need to work on getting my art out there. this video really inspired me to get up and crate. i usually had art as a hobby and didn't take it serious till now.
THIS IS SO HQ I'M D E D
can u post videos about your process or idea development (sketchbook)? ur pieces r so amazing TT
I'm really inspired by all of your art pieces! Honestly, I'm kind of anxious about applying to an art school and seeing all of these amazing artists show their art portfolios (like yours) makes me want to expand! Did you take any art classes during highschool or outside courses? I'm in my junior year and I haven't taken art classes in or out of highschool which is a part of the reason why I'm anxious about it all. Overall, thank you so much for showing us your artwork!
absolutely incredible portfolio! may I ask if the canvas measurements are in inches or cm?
You inspired me with your ideas
Yay I'm your 800th subscriber :)
wow!!!! It really inspired me!
oh wow, your pieces are all so amazing! I’m currently a junior and I really want to go into an art school or something in art for higher education but I have no idea where to start 😭 did you learn art from high school classes or through an art academy?
all of your drawings are incredible and also have such deep messages to them as well! >< I'll be a junior next year and I'm really inspired to start pursuing my own portfolio ideas after the portfolio school I went to last year only made me do technical pieces -- do you have any advice to what I should look for in a new portfolio teacher or class? (should they be helping me with whatever idea or piece I have in mind, or are they supposed to offer advice of what to draw and I follow it strictly? Sorry this is such a weird question, I just don't know what these places are supposed to offer and I know you only mentioned teachers and such briefly in the video! It's just that I wanted to start focusing on my own ideas and creative pieces 😅)
but thank you for the video, it's my favorite portfolio vid so far :D
thank you so much!! honestly, i wasn't sure if the way my teacher taught was very common, which is why I didn't mention it much since it might not be too applicable to people. But basically my teacher would help me with developing ideas and making sure they were communicated effectively in the piece, and also pushed my technical abilities as well. I think ultimately just try to find a teacher that is familiar with what universities want to see in a portfolio and know how to guide you to achieve that, if that makes sense? Good luck with your application!!!
IMPRESSIVE
Can you make a video of how you oil paint because your painting is crazy
Your portfolio is amazing !! Your skills are just on point. (It would be great to lower the background music )
I love these so much!! What acrylics do you use?
if you put two photos in one slide like the reme, berance day ones are they counted together or individually by the school
i'm sorry if this sounds creepy but,,, is that richmond? the scene at 7:54 looks awfully familiar...
then again, it's not a particularly distinctive landscape, so i could be wrong
hi! i was wondering whether every piece made has to have some kind of meaning/story behind it? i wanted to create these graphic design movie posters cuz i thought that would be a cool idea but also to demonstrate my knowledge in adobe illustrator/photoshop and that i can redesign things, but now im not so sure.
Omg so cool!!!!
What year do you recommend I start working on my portfolio?
Girlll 1500on sat!! 😭😭🤚🤚🤚
I APPLIED TO THOSE TWO TOO
this is so pretty ah
Wow, your works have so much depth and emotions in them. As someone currently considering to apply SAIC, may I ask which department where you applied and accepted to with this portfolio? I'm considering the Film, Video, New Media, and Animation department so just wondered.
I love ur stuff
i love ur stuff !!
Are these all your ideas or did you take inspiration from any sources? Also, love how these turned out!
how do you get so creative on abstract ideas? i have some decent artistic skills but i am too stiff when it comes to creativity
What watercolors do you use?
big shoutout to these schools for saving 70 million lives and keeping Europe safe
I have only recently decided to major in art and I have no idea where to start on my portfolio...help 🛐
Have you done your bachelors from risd?
Watching this again,, cause I love u😭😂
bahahaha thank youu ✨
@ definite infinite: I recommend reading Worlds in Collision. We live in an active universe, and the Earth will long be destroyed by cosmic forces before reaching those billions of years.
omg I'm super excited to see you at RISD... IF I GET IN FOR 2021 FALL
hahaha good luck with your applications!!!
did you get in?
Did you take the SATs? That’s my main concern for applying to risd :)
3:09 the brand is called "Pelikan" :)
oh dope ! thank you uvu
Omg your portfolio pieces are amazing!! I was wondering if you used references for like the people and the objects that you put into the pieces? And if you did, were you allowed to use some from the internet?
thank you! i definitely used references for pretty much all of my pieces! i think using references is an important way to improve your art skill, like drawing from life. the important thing is you're using the references to have a better understanding and accurate depiction of what you're drawing, and not directly copying or tracing the images. hope that makes sense :)
So, did you have to do pieces like you did? Or are you able to make more animation related pieces? Or is it just genuinely just what you think is good?
If you mean what type of pieces you should submit, I think you should just submit what you think is best representative of your own skill level and what type of art you enjoy creating! If that's animation related then yeah, go for it! They also love to see experimentation and risk taking, so don't worry too much about your work fitting a certain mold. Hope that helps! :)
Hi, can someone please explain what early decision is. I was under the impression you can only apply to two schools early decision
*one school
hello! i am a freshman in graphic designing in india.. risd is my dream college.. is it possible for international students to get accepted for graduate courses and if yes what is the minimum gpa required? plss reply i really wanna know cause i really wanna work hard to get into my dream college. have a nice day
Do you think art schools care more about GPA, SAT/ACT scores, or a student's portfolio? Thanks, I enjoyed this video :)
art schools def care more about portfolio than any grades. risd's a bit more selective but even then they don't look for like a crazy good gpa or anything, so i wouldn't worry too much about those kinds of stats uvub
How do you visualise these so well without a reference?
i do use references! i'm actually not very good at visualizing things either so I'll find a lot of references for either poses or lighting etc. don't be afraid of using references! references =/= tracing
I have the same watercolors! The brand is Pelikan 3:10
do you have any advice for ppl teaching themselves how to paint? i'm looking for a specific youtuber or online course :0
cesar cordova
so cool T.T
Can somebody help me.
I'm currently preparing for 11nth grade and I will pursue arts. I wanted to become an illustrator someday and assembling a portfolio is taking to much of my time🥲
I wanted to ask a few things I hope u answer it cuz I'm desperate
1. Does assembling a portfolio requires in making art YOU'RE GOOD AT?or it needs to have a variety of arts(painting, sketching etc.) No matter what you're mastering in.
2. If it needs to be a full colored one
3. How many examples should you put in your portfolio?
It depends, you First have to apply to an artschool that suits you and that is available in your country. If you'll be able to pay for the school years there so you also have to look financially. Then you'll see what is required for your portfolio, if it needs to be sent digital or personally. I recommend putting your best artworks and also a variety of different mediums (sculpture, drawings...) bug don't overdo it...
what are you planning to major in at risd?
most likely illustration but i havent decided yet !
