My name is Wan Lin and I'm an artist living in Paris, sharing my life and creations with you. Enjoy~
Thank you for watching! Dark red & orange heart emojis
It always shocks me how much knowledge art students in first world countries have even before they start college. Your portfolio showed so much maturity and skills, it's beautiful! My whole classs at our second year of art school still doesn't know how to build a portfolio so to me seeing this is absolutely mesmerizing
I'm not applying for art school but I thoroughly enjoyed this. It was thoughtful, open and informative. I wish you well on your art journey.
Thank you! Likewise for you :) 🌠
You explain things so well THIS HELPED ME SO MUCH THANK YOU I’m only a freshman but I think it’s important I start preparing now thank you so much again you’re art work is beautiful
I love how you use color. It's really unique and beautiful, I rarely see young students really experiment with color like this, but I've always loved contrasting light with dark.
Your art style is beautiful! I'm working on my portfolio (I'm in my third year of art highschool) and your video was super helpful and inspired me :P
There are so many accepted art portfolios on youtube, and I always wonder what the ultimate intention of the student will be (such as become an illustrator for example). Long ago I applied to RISD and Pratt, ended with Pratt BFA. Then took a summer scholarship to Skowhegan School (Maine), and then obtained MFA at Columbia Univ. I never specifically studied any job or career oriented course during those years. So my goal was strictly to develop as a so-called fine artist. I later did many odd jobs such as some illustration, printing commissioned silk screen prints, etc, and eventually made my living in graphic design. But that was just a job and secondary to my personal goals. Fine arts is extremely difficult to make any kind of living, but that is my skill and first love always. For me, I never wanted to do portraits or other types of commissions, and have always turned down such offers. I became financially successful through other means. I cannot complain about the tribulations of art since over time I was exhibited in many venues, have works in collections of "the rich and famous", famous actors and athletes, patrons, important collections, and an increasing number of museums. I am aware that some artists have stumbled upon unimaginable success, but I never like their art so I don't envy their success. It is not about money. My goal is really to have the works acquired by museums, even if I part with them without compensation. That's the life I wanted. Anyway, whatever YOUR goals are, we wish you well in achieving them.
I love how you incorporated your faith into your work and related them to your life experiences. Very deep
What a balanced portfolio, I love every piece and the explanation behind the pieces. Hope your future is as bright as your portfolio
C'est super intéressant bien que j'étudie l'histoire de l'art et non l'art appliqué, en plus tu parles très clairement donc ça m'aide en compréhension de l'anglais !
You're a hero. You're still doing what you're meant to do. My parents are strictly against too neither I have the financial support so I'm thinking of putting my guard down. It is rough. But you're winning.
I’m no hero haha! I wish the best for you :)
@@la_princesse_des_beauxarts I wish your past wounds are healed and you come out stronger than a 90’s trend.
My parents refused to help with college too... I joined the NAVY the moment I was old enough I was able to go to college when I came back. It's not for everyone but it's an option if you want to study what you want without giving your parents an in for criticism or negative comments.
@@alejandrarosales7836 I share the same thought. But it does build a lot of pressure as you've to work enough so that you become able in paying your fees later.
These were so beautiful, your skill level is really high and admirable. Please take care of yourself as you continue in your path though
i just wanted to say your artwork is absolutely beautiful and i love your enthusiasm. i was having a horrible day and this video inspired me to start a new piece :) keep working hard!!
Aww I hope you feel better soon! Try smelling something nice or eating something sweet or taking a hot bath with music. That always works for me on those days when I want the world to disappear! :)
@@la_princesse_des_beauxarts thank you and thanks for the suggestions, i’ll be sure to try them!!
i LOOVE your art! these all look so beautiful
It's so amazing seeing other artist's honest pieces that reflect their character , i enjoyed this so much
This is truly impressive! Very inspiring! You have such a unique, creative and bold style! 🖤
i’ve no plans to apply to art school but the way you explain your works with positivity just made my day!! also love that you’re wearing a qipao
thank you for sharing your paintings! its so beautiful. I could feel it. such a deep and delicate style. it really inspired me
Such beautiful and meaningful art pieces! Thank you for sharing!
Congratulations! This is very inspiring!
Your portfolio is incredible!! Your pieces evoked many emotions in myself, and they were all so beautiful and well thought out. Amazing work!! It really inspired me. Thank you!
I love when artist show their portfolio
your personal style is soooo strong and cool!
Amazing Art. The butterflies are gorgeous. Gold Key Award. Bravo. The Ghost drawing is beautiful. ♥️🦋♥️ And the butterfly nest is gorgeous. 🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋
Thank you lovely ♥️
I was so shocked when the video ended because I know I can listen to you, talk about your art for hours.
This is the best encouragement ever 🥺🧡
@@la_princesse_des_beauxarts I'm a photography student myself, so please, make more videos about you work, how you got inspired and how you went on your creative journey. This one video inspired me so so much. 💜😻
i'm at my first year of fine arts academy in my hometown, but i really wanna apply to the Beaux-Arts in Paris, either for erasmus or for my master degree. so this was really helpful, thank you!
You look just like your art! I love this, such a good portfolio. Thank you for uploading this. I learnt a lot from it.
omg love your art, this helps me a lot to sort my ideas of what I want for my portfolio. Thank you, I suscribed! ♡
Thank you so much for sharing. You are so good at explaining your art works.
I go to a STEM high school and am scared of my chances at an Art school, but I'm gonna try my best with applications and the portfolios! Also, what you described reminded me of my own OCD, which I also want to convey in my art. :)
thanks for making this! this definitely gave me some ideas on how to prepare my own portfolio
Im not sure if it’s like that for you, but for me art is war. And I love feeling that way. But god you’re tough. Respect. Seeing that I compete with people like you for a spot in the academy makes me feel honoured. I’ll gladly fight my way into that academy.
I used to feel that way too but time has taught me the value of relaxation and release-sometimes opportunities come when you stop trying too hard. It’s a balance of upstream and downstream effort!
@@la_princesse_des_beauxartssorry for being edgy. I honestly feel like I should be way more humble lol I am so sorry- but thanks and for real your art is amazing and I can’t wait to see more!!
YOU ARE NOW MY ART INSPIRATION AND MOTIVATION ILYSM ALSO YOU'RE SO PRETTY
OMGGG GO CHRISTOPHERRR BANG BANG BANG!!! 🌠
Great congratulations on your beautiful video
Yeah! Rhodesia Island School…❤️.
Thank you! This was really beautiful ❤️
This is insane. Incredible work, what field of fine arts did you study? Simply - fine arts? Any specific branch? I don't think I will be able to add in so much different stuff. All I can do is line-art, comic-art, graphic-art, light-dark-contrast and that's it... I don't stand a chance dayum
your art is so captivating
your fashion style is so cute
This is very helpful! Your potfolio is beautiful btw
This really helped me a lot , I just opened a LinkedIn account and I think I'll use this advice in building up my portfolio
Beautiful! Beautiful! Beautiful!!!!! Amazing art! Congrats girl! ♥️
I love the butterflies!
wow thank you soo much for the video
love the qipao
Super fresh art 🎨🦋🖼
Je adore ton portfolio et tu es vraiment talentueux. J’éspere que un jour Je peux faire un portfolio aussi beau que le tien .
This was a wonderful video. Thank you :)
Your art is amazing!!! I'm so thankful this video was made and that I found your channel T__T
Awww thank you so much~
Quel talent !
your art is so cool!! as well as your artist inspirations!! c:
this channel is a hidden gem ✨😩 thankyou very much for an informative video! your arts is very amazing and immaculate!♡ **can i also ask what materials or colored pencils, watercolors are they, you used at 12:13 / 11:56 ? (the Japanese style, yes) such as how you did the hair lining and that was so detailed tbh ! T----T ❤
Thank you so much ❤️🥺 I used a mixture of watercolor, pencils, and colored inks. I’ll do my best to become a horror manga goddess someday 😵💫🌠
@@la_princesse_des_beauxarts ooooh okay i'll keep that in mind ☺️ thankyou for replying and i want to read your horror manga someday ! 🤩🎩🖤🌚♟🥀
Absolutely fantastic. Can I ask you where you learned french and did you need to be fluent to go to Beaux-Arts? Your french sounds perfect.
Thank you so much! I spoke French as a toddler growing up in Montréal, forgot it after moving to the USA and relearned it in high school. Yes, you need to know French to study here; I will make a video soon about which resources/methods I used to improve my French! Thank you :)
@@la_princesse_des_beauxarts Thank You! :-)
ur so so talented 👏
I love your art so much! It has a Junji Ito vibe to it!
Goals! 🎃🌠
your art is amazing
Wow your art really tells a story
Do you know where I can see more example accepted portfolios into ENSBA because online I've only seen a very small handful? This would be greatly appreciated. Really lovely work on your side too btw :)
Working on it! I’ll ask around to see if any old classmates are willing to share; stay tuned xoxo
@@la_princesse_des_beauxarts Alright thank you so much! :))
The 3D butterfly nest is soo beautiful
Wow! This was so very very inspiring!!!! Thank you for sharing!!
The large drawing (your strongest piece) was amazing and I am a professional painter.
i love this video so much!! do we have to send in physical copies in our applications? :O i thought it was just pictures!!
I think so, but verify on the website. Thank you!
how did you send your 3d butterfly sculpture without damaging it?@@la_princesse_des_beauxarts
Your portfolio was amazing!! May I know that you had any copy artwork with them too or not?
No
@@la_princesse_des_beauxarts thanks for answering
Also, do you know any other artists with art styles like these at 11:45 and 14:30 ? IT'S SO PRETTYYYTY
Try yoshitaka amano and Takato Yamamoto! In addition to Suehiro maruo and ukiyo-e prints, there’s also Aubrey Beardsley and odilon redon (both are masters of black and white but redon has some gorgeous color paintings). Symbolism wise there’s also Gustave Moreau’s dreamy paintings and the iconic film Belladonna of sadness!
Not the walk through the valley of the shadow of death XD I died lol Anyway, great work
the nature lab! i live in ri and also do the art
Hello, thanks for the great and informative video! I was wondering how you gradually improved your knowledge and techniques for art. Did you take art classes, and what exercises/resources did you find useful?
Yes absolutely! I will make a comprehensive video today about the art programs/classes I took before college/university/art school. Thanks for the idea!
@@la_princesse_des_beauxarts Thank you very much!
It inspires me!!
tu as une nouvelle abonnée, c'était passionnant !
I love your art ❤️
C'est tellement beau
Curious. Your boarding school wouldn’t have been Ethel Walker would it?
Nope! :)
@@la_princesse_des_beauxarts can’t blame a girl for trying. Miss Porter’s School?

you and your art are beautiful ✨🍄💜🌸⚛️
Thank you so much
Hey there love Art. Well done. Do you live in New York?
Paris to London !
Wonderful 💜
hello, thanks for great informative video. i just want to ask a few questions:
1. How did you come up with these ideas, where did you take inspiration from?
2. what we need in a good portfolio?
3. can i prepare portfolios in 3 months for foundation programs, what are your recommendations for applying foundation programms?
4. Can we also show them our works that we did in our sketchbooks? should i go over the requirements when it comes to number of portfolios? should i submit as much as i want if they are so beautiful?
Thanks in advance...
1. From my whimsical fantastical sense of observation. Other popular inspirations for art generally speaking can be current events, personal experiences, literature, history, bible, multidisciplinary etc
2. Strong pieces technically and conceptually
3. I don’t know about foundation programs specifically. If they have high tuition they will probably take anyone who is decent lol
4. Show ur strongest sketchbook works only
Good luck!
When you did the entrance exam for école beaux arts de paris - did you bring all these paintings and drawings physically or did you make prints of them to bring for the jury at the entrance exam to look at?
I mailed my originals to the school; the other option was to drop off in person lol. So for the interview we looked over the original portfolio
Thank you for your answer! So you didn't have to bring your portfolio when you did the writing and drawing test? What I understand for this year's first year entrance exam is that you have to bring your portfolio irl to hand in while you do the tests.@@la_princesse_des_beauxarts
@@kerstinnylund1960 Hello im also trying the exam, it was not clear on their website but i understood that you have to bring your artistic book and give it before/after the art philosophie writting test and the drawing test
Félicitations !!!!!
Little Brother from india 🙏🏻🇮🇳
You're so beautiful 😍
Congratulations 💞
Hi! Can we put a religious piece in our portfolio ? That is in relation to our faith and not just Bible references ? Thank you so much
There are no rules against it and religion is often explored as a subject by students I know!
You inspired me so muchh to make better artt ✨ even if i can't go to these universities. Im gonna do whatever i can on my own ☺️
I read that you need to take the culture and analysis test.. i couldn't find examples is it filled with questions you have to answer or do you have to just talk about the topic and tell them what you know about art theories? Please tell me🙏🏽❤️
Essays not specific right/wrong answers :)
@@la_princesse_des_beauxarts thank you so much❤️
your work is just marvelous!Well, I have just submitted my application for RISD ED,and I have one small question,Did you include process documentation in your portfolio~?I hear from some people that RISD loves it but I did not include any, will that be a problem~?
No, I don’t think so. Documentation imo is secondary to the resolved artworks you submit. If you add some it may be helpful I guess, to see your creative process, but I’m not sure
Such a cool channel and portfolio - you have what I can only describe as extreme talent. But I must say that for such an upbeat person your work is quite dark haha.
OMG I love your videos it’s an honor!!! Waow 🤩 yes contrast and variation in everything :)
Great artwork!
you are so pretty
How old were you when you got in? Currently I am taking a gap year, also to work on my portfolio, I'm 19. But im afraid it wont be anough, would applying at 21 be better or worse?
I was 18-but I don’t think you can compare generally because every one is so different, and only you know yourself so I can’t answer that :)
@@la_princesse_des_beauxarts thanks for the reply. Ur right though, I was just wondering. Did you do any preparatory courses?
@@Where1ssmymind I took summer art programs at Interlochen and RISD pre college and took the art classes at school :)
c’est incroyable rhon rhon rhon fromage
OH YO i think we are gonna go to the same school, see you next year bud :]
It’s 2:33 am now I want gummy bears :(
I'm a beginner and love art. Can you recommend where do I start???
Start by looking through some general art history and finding which artists and art movements you love! Then slowly create your own artistic universe and steadily learn techniques to bring them into reality :)
Thank you..how did you start your journey??
@@sayyidhaneshwa6683 dorling kindersley “DK” ‘s “50 great artists explained” was my introduction to art around the age of 6! Though I’ve been drawing for fun before haha
Hello,
About How many drawing we must put on the portfolio for ecole des beaux art ?
Sorry, I don’t know! I don’t think there’s a limit but a lot has changed since I applied in 2017.
did you apply for risd rd?because if you did, you are soooo excellent to get in!
Regular yes! Thanks :)
Hey quick question, Does anyone know if 4 artworks like the ones at 7:20 be considered one piece ? ( Great art btw.)
I taped these four drawings together on the back and they made « one piece »!
Can I include digital artworks in my portfolio
I think so! Plus now instead of mailing originals/usb to ensba you can upload to Taïga for the portfolio.
@@la_princesse_des_beauxarts oh boy! this is more complicated than I thought and not a lot of resources out there.
Thanks for your videos ❤️
Could you please provide a link for the precollege program you attended? Thank you!
Sure! I can’t post links bc of anti-spam control but here are the names you can search: RISD pre-college program, Interlochen Arts Camp
That’s sum rad art🤌🤌
tu es vraiment talentueux!
Talentueuse.. Yes she is. Bravo !
