Hi Davie, You're a real artist at handling fish - you wet your hand and balance them in your palm without pressure. The fish go back none the worse. Brilliant.
Great video, the Ayr looks to be well worth fishing. I'm on the east coast of Scotland and mostly I'm on Tweed and her tributaries. The grayling seem to be on the increase over this side, and colonising upstream areas they haven't been seen much on in the past. Thanks Davie.

So nice to see this. I caught my first trout on a dry fly I tied this summer. It is a Coq de Leon, cul de canard, elk hair caddis. That fly even help my friend catch one also. Can't get better than that. Keep those videos comming mr. McPhail.

I truly enjoy seeing rivers from other parts of the world. Although in this regard I believe Sweden and Scotland are more similar than different, apart from the subarctic maybe. Thanks for bringing us along 👍
The cool thing is twofold. You share your thought process with us and even from my perch here in Northern Alberta, I can go on Google Earth and look at the stretch you are fishing. I'm not sure I ever drove through there it has been many years. I've always wondered about the difference between Arctic Grayling and your European Grayling. Are they creatures of the same habits? I could catch Grayling all day and be happy. That is a pretty river Davie take care.
Love it! Davie, are most or all waters in Scotland private? As you have said you get 1 day a week on the River Doon, and on the River Ayr you indicated you have to fish above the railroad bridge. I also never see anyone else fishing. Although it is always nice when you have water all to yourself. Here in Colorado we have more public water than I can fish in a lifetime. Just wondering
I really enjoy going fishing with you. Like hearing your observations. Would be nice if you ocationally told us how long your cast you are making?Just hard to get an idea from the video. By the way nice cast in between the two rock in the last few minutes of video. I usually curse the trout when I've laid out a nice cast and get a good drift and the don't have the curticy to take my fly. Anyway thanks again for taking us along.
Hi Davie really enjoyed your video thank you. Re Cadence rods, I am looking to get one for large still water. It looks like it throws a good line but not too stiff? How to you rate build quality on these and do you know if they are made in Japan , China or Korea? Many thanks.
Hi Davie. Looks a lovely wee set up you have their. How are the cadence rods action wise? I fish dries most of the time and looking for a lighter set up from my #7. I also noticed your set up looked streamlined never noticed a braided loop of the end of the fly line, what knot do you use from the fly line to the taper? I've been trying to perfect that for many years with nail knots etc
Is it true you cant fish the river Ayr for grayling during the winter? If so its a shame.. lovely to see the grey duster in use, one of my go to dry flies 👍
HI Davie Offshore off the coast of Somalia at the moment so the internet is not that great so I have to wait to watch the wheel of fortune losing the will to live on my lap top as it buffers to down load your excellent videos but well worth it .So many small grayling and little browns is there anything bigger these days or has the days of the big slabs only found in stocked reservoirs now and the organic natural beautys are all but dissapeared .You mentioned around about 31:05 a perfect wet fly/nymph spot, may I ask woud you still use a floating line with fluro carbon there or a slow intermediate.Thanks again Davie makes my evenings a lot more pleasant
Hi Davie question please, how much of your say 12 feet leader should you de grease? if too much of the leader is under the water could that make it more difficult to hook the fish? thanks Davie I'm just learning. cheers!
Hi Myles Reilly, It all depends on how I want the flies to sit or drift just as the naturals are doing as I will grease my leader up which will allow your fly to drift quickly to de greasing the leader to slow up the fly and as well hide it from the fish...You could write a book just on this subject alone..great question..
