I never thought to bash other people for what they like, but I do express why I don't like something, and if I don't like something I won't play it.

NE's probably a very nice person to have a beer with if you share perspectives. Thing is, he's confrontational, defensive and sets a high bar for the behaviour of others while he doesn't always evaluate his own, which is why I eventually unsubbed from him.
@@chikhai Spot on, he is genuinely overly concerned with how others behave. This is a very mean comment to make, but he seems entirely like a "failed alpha", which means someone who tries to man up and be a leader, but just can't be due to his own insecurities and lack of wins in life. In a lion's pack it's the one who can't challenge for leadership but also doesn't have the ability to get along with the rest. during the discussion of tournaments near the hour mark, you guys just reminded me of a fairly unpleasant experience I had at one. But not during the game, what made it unpleasant was what I found out the next day. I had just started building a Tau army and since I had played with my Guard the last two tournaments I thought I'd take my Tau and just have fun. I wasn't going to do well as I wasn't really familiar with the army list yet, not enough to build the most broken list I could (5th edition and I believe it was still the 4th edition codex) and even If I was that sort of gamer, I tend to build lists that go against the meta. For example, the Imperial Guard meta at the time was something like x3 Hydras, x2 Veteran Squads with Meltas, Command Squad with Meltas, x2 Vendettas. My list was x2 Leman Russ (something that even with the 5th edition codex was widely considered to be worthless in comparison to the Hydra of all things), Manticore, Infantry Platoon of Platoon command Squad and x3 Infantry Squads in Chimeras armed with grenade launchers, Special Weapons Squad with meltas, x2 Vendettas, Company Command Squad with Meltas, Banewolf and Stormtroopers in Chimera with the scout special rule. The most Anti-tank and anti Space Marine army I could devise without doing the same thing everyone else was doing. I lost three games, drew one and won my last game of the weekend. It was a bad list and I knew it, but I didn't care. It was basically everything I had bought up to that point so of course that wasn't going to be good. I can't remember who my first, fourth and fifth opponents were, but my second was Grey Knights and obviously was destroyed, but felt I did well against them. My third game was against Space Wolves and, again, I thought I made a good account of myself considering the bad list. Apparently the Space Wolf player and all of his mates from Beasts of War (of which the Space Wolf player was one of the presenters or frequent guests at least, but I had no idea as I'd never watched anything by them up to that point). I found out the next morning from my friend who stayed at the convention for a few hours longer in the bar (I don't drink and I'd long since went home by this point) overheard this guy and the other guys from Beasts of War laughing and mocking the fact I dared to bring a Tau army to a tournament (I was the only Tau player that day in a sea of Space Marine players), and had the audacity to bring a terrible list. It was the last tournament I played in for a year and I rarely played with them again after. Not because I was that upset. I was more annoyed than anything else, but they were a side army to the Guard, and If I was to ever play him again I wanted to make sure I trampled him under a good Guards list specifically designed to murder Space Marine armies of the time. Never did get that chance, but in the tournament the next year I did finish top 10 while he finished mid table. So there was a bit of vindication there. Then 6th edition released not to long after that and I never played 40k ever since.
@@spacelizard6770 I wasn't that upset. It was a bad list and I could understand why they'd have been laughing at it. It's more that I'm annoyed they did it behind my back. It's just one unpleasant experience I've had when playing 40k and I had been reminded of it by this conversation that, yeah, dedicated tournament players can be assholes.
When Northern Exile was talking about the not Jelling with the super nerds, and it being a weird situation being an outsider to an outsider group I feel that. Being for lack of a better term..normal..going into a game store is just offputting to me. odd to say the least
Maybe they could do, alternating, 1 player moves, shoots. Then the other moves and shoots. Then it alternates charge and fight. That’s the only way I can see it working because if it’s complete alternating first player will always win.
Same, I ended up working for Hollister instead though. I prefer plastic spacemen, but Hollister worked out better. Might have been the only employee reading Heresy novels on my breaks.
Man you know I am pretty new to the table top side of 40k and I have to say that with all this hype of how good the guard are I started losing sight of why I got into 40k and that's to see lots of beautifully painted models battle it out but I started to lose sight of that and started putting together more of a competitive list and I was never that competitive with this stuff before so I don't know why I did this. But this has helped me realize my original goal and so for that I have to say thank you and keep up this great content, also its not that I am not going to try to win still just that I am not going to build some crazy stupide list that takes to much advantage of indirect fire.
I'd recommend Star Wars Legion as an alternative to 40k. I'm not even that big of a Star Wars fan, but the gameplay systems are so much more enjoyable and streamlined while still allowing for the fluffy thematics to come through. It also almost always seems to come down to the final round so games are always nail-biting affairs
