Oculus, can I just say, I recently got around to reading The Regent's Shadow, and I was disappointed. Not because there was anything wrong with it, and not because it was "spoiled" by your video. But because frankly, your presentation of the Hexarchy storyline was better. I think it comes down to the fact that you handled the big reveal better. So in a sense, I'm glad I didn't spoil your video by reading the book first.
Cannot agree more. Oculus's video had really good political intrigue and backstabbery vibes. I thought the book was going to be at least in the same vein, so you can imagine my confusion when the politician is constantly outpoliticked. I wish we had a more focused mystery story bouncing between meetings of the high lords. The chancellor could be trying to work out whether the discrepancies only she can notice, a la the missing assassins, are winks of support or failed attempts to hide the lords' true motives. Regardless, I don't blame the author. It felt like the editor was asleep at the wheel and not tightening up the story or calling out contrivances that went a bit too far. My favourite/most hated part is when Aleya fails the same way twice in quick succession, arguably thrice if you're going off body count.
"Your humble chronicler is of course not giving any credit to the outrageous theory that the Minotaurs are born of the Geneseed of Perturabo. This chronicler only mentions the theory that the Minotaurs are Iron Warriors successors so that one's acolytes know to avoid this false theory. That theory again being that they are the Sons of Perturabo."
@@generic_sauceMarines Malevolent are most likely Death Guard. The Minotaurs are known to be Iron Warrior geneseed. This is confirmed by their creator.
Think more Thunder Warrior. Have a read up about a guy called Arik Taranis - surviving Thunder Warrior and genetic genius who survived the cull and was at large on Terra during the siege, at which point he and at least one other survivor named Ghota appeared to find a way to fix their genetic abmormalities using chimeric Astartes geneseed. After the siege they mysteriously disappeared. Oh did I mention Arik's criminal gang on Terra had a red bull's head as their sigil? I think it likely either Arik or his surviving "son", Ghota, realised their best bet for survival was to throw in with the High Lords of Terra - providing the high lords with their own security against the Astartes legions/chapters. Lots of stuff adds up here - the gang sigil, the colour scheme being similar to Thunder Warriors, even the name "minotaurs" is a reference to a son discarded for their monstrous nature. They are unusually large Astartes who revel in the brutality of warfare and are particularly suited to fighting other astartes chapters, and they mysteriously have a ton of equipment from the 30K era. Asterion Moloc also mysteriously carries an old design of Custodes weapon - implying at some point someone took it from a Custodes. Well Taranis survived the cull on Ararat so almost certainly took out a Custodes at some point.
Whether they serve the high lords out of some backroom deal to hide their skeletons or because of gene seed tampering are both interesting to me since the idea of an incorruptibly loyal yet completely ignoble chapter makes for a solid niche. The whole point of chapters is for each of them to have a distinct identity and purpose.

A sort of potential revamp of the Alpha Legion's hazy loyalties.

They are dark angels successors. In their guilt, they pledged to be the perfect tool for the imperium survival, putting themselves at the whims of the high lords. The double purpse of serving their penance and keeping tabs on the heart of the Imperium is mega Dark Angels coded. Btw I'm so hyped for this video had to type this out before I watched lmao
Them being Dark Angels fits very well. IMO they're too openly asshole-ish to be Dark Angels. Dark Angels are assholes but they're extremely taciturn assholes. Plus the ancient Greek/Spartan theme is more IW than DA.
If only the High Lords gave the same amount of resources to other chapters then imperium might held on to Nihilius properly. Or if they used the same amount on social reforms etc. then maybe imperium might be running decently, instead of giving Guilliman nightmares.
