Outside of the infotainment system and ES350 manual clock, they are essentially the same car. I test drove gas models of the same two years and preferred the Avalon due to the infotainment system, even though the ES had .9 inch more back seat room and the manual clock. In May of 2022 I paid way more than the car was worth, just over $27000. A 2015 avalon limited. I'm doubling up on the monthly payments to stay ahead; meaning the interest, 6%. It seems like that was due to the $$ increase in used car market. It had 56,000 miles on it when I bought it in May 2022. I just put 57,000 on it.
I have the 2013 Limited version. Besides the cheap interior components ( which I will probably just spend a bit more on aftermarket) - the rest is damn near perfect!!
*I just bought a 2015 Toyota Avalon limited in May 2022; financing for now, gotta watch out for the potholes and other road imperfections. Overall solid car.*
Yeah, I also have a 2015 Avalon Limited and I don't like how stiff the suspensions on these cars are. I think they did it to appeal to younger buyers, but overall it's an amazing car.
I have a 2014 avalon xle with just under 20k miles. Bought it in December 2014, so just over 8 1/2 years. Beautiful sizzling crimson mica paint with almond interior. I'm 66 and this may possibly be the last car I ever buy if I continue to put so few miles on it. What makes it special is that it has a sports package optjon which I've only seen on two others in all these years. 19 inch tires, BBS sport wheels, rear spoiler, side pinstriping, LED daytime running lights. The larger tires and sport wheels give the car a totally different look, sometimes reminds me of a BMW 7 series. I always drive in sport mode and although it doesn't have the balls of the Infiniti g37s I traded in for it, when I need to pass or just want more aggressive acceleration, it responds very well. The rear seats do not fold down which is a big miss for the designers. Mine has the stock non-JBL radio and it's just alright. Recently had the car detailed in and out and looks brand new. Love the paint, looks like it has crystals in it, really stands out. Its been garaged kept its whole life. I paid $35k for it new on a zero percent 5 year loan. I get quotes in the mail to trade it in for like $16k. Lol. With the low amount of miles, I don't think Id take less than $23-25k if I was looking for a new car. But why get myself into a monthly payment when I'm still driving a practically new car.
Love my 2014 Avalon. It's like getting a lexus (same engine, similar interior) at a toyota price. I do get tail gated a lot - I think most people assume an old man is driving in front of them, but I have no complaints. Change the oil and go - not a single mechanical issue. My kids are in their teens and on family trips, this car really helps with leg room compared to the camry. Backseats are huge and comfortable.
I own one and yeah the rear seats don't fold down, not sure why they didn't include that with the fourth gen. But what's cool what the Avalon has that the ES doesn't is the Limited trim has rear heated and cooled seats.
The Camry XLE is essentially a base Avalon. The top Avalon is essentially a Lexus ES350. Think about that when pricing them. I hated Toyota taking away the reclining back seats around 2008 or 9. The best engine was the 2005 280hp version. I loved the interiors of that model more as well due to the unique covers. Toyota also started decreasing the size of the fuel tank. My only complaints with the older ones were the headliners would peel and the trunk space was much smaller than top competitors. Other than that, it's one of my dream cars. I test drove a few and an 05 Limited was my favorite because it did have the quiet, floating feel.
This isn't a model we get down here but being a Toyota it would be a great first or second vehicle. I do like this type of segment gives people a real life review on cars they might buy. Great video Kevin thanks. Brenton🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
I enjoy your honest unbiased reviews it gives me peace from my busy production work lifestyle at work and ur videos also tames my temper to keep me from getting angry at my roomates when they annoy me.
Bought a 14 XLE Touring in 2019 with 50k miles for $14k. Less expensive than comparable Camrys at the time. Less we’ll known and less demand, but a better car for less money. Did a Carvana quote in 2021 for fun and they were offering $17k (and that’s their wholesale price), like all cars during that timeframe went up in price. It is surprisingly nimble for what it is (full size fwd Japanese sedan) if you’re willing to push it. I’ve owned a IS300, G35, and 328i. Not quite as nimble as those cars, especially the BMW. But you can push it a lot harder than most would think. I always put good AS performance tires on my cars though. Bridgestone Potenzas on it now. 125k on it now, and no issues. Regular oil changes and fluid maintenance. Just did the front brakes and spark plugs. One thing to note on any vehicle with the 2GR-FE engine (and a lot of models in this era have it) is the rear bank of spark plugs take some labor to get to. I DIY’d them, but saw quotes on forums for $800 from several years ago, probably more now.
I’ve been looking for an Avalon limited around that generation for a while now but used car prices are absolutely nuts. Guess I’ll keep my Camry for a while
Best car ever! Ok maybe not but good enough for me. 2013 Touring, around 25,000 miles. Swapped the stereo for a Pioneer head unit, 10" tablet style. Rocks for not changing the amp or speakers. Yeah more would be better, future work.
I bought this car brand new and I still own it and LOVE it!! It has a lot of power and get up and go!! I love the sporty body style!! I have the silver which still looks great for being & years old. 😊
None of the Avalon Generations had folding rear seats until the 19 generation... I have a 14 and an 08 the 08 generation has a reclining feature but that was discontinued in 13.. my 14 limited does not recline so yes it is annoying that they didn't go to a fold down in 13 and beyond ..
The ES is made alongside the Avalon in Kentucky. Plus, there isn’t a difference whether it’s made there or here because Toyotas quality control is amazing. Whether it’s in the US or Japan. That’s why Toyotas and Hondas have been built here since the 90s and haven’t had long term reliability issues.
@@zuhayrali4202 The 2015 ES and before were all made in Japan. 2016 was the new year they started shifting to US production.. Yeah true.. but I just feel better owning one made in Japan..
Toyota dropped the ball with interior materials on this generation, almost every Avalon we looked at purchasing this summer had wornout leather armrests, peeling chrome around the stereo and cupholders. All these were between 40k - 100k miles. Otherwise good review as always!!
this is true, i drive a 2013 hybrid limited and the trim around the cupholders has started peeling and the material on the armrest has too, im at 97K miles but it still drives amazing
I agree....They put the quality material in the Lexus but it's the same car otherwise. I have a 2002 Sequoia, 2016 Toyota Tundra and 2014 Avalon.....Interior quality isn't the best. My Sequoia has broken Interior door handles, broken tailgate door, worn out throughout, exterior peeling paint....but that thing will crank up and take you as far as you want to go.
I'm able to get one of these with 192k for 6,900 dollars, if it's in good mechanical condition then honestly I'm gonna go for it, ans watching this reminds me of one of my family members' 2016 Camry
I had this same car- 2014 XLE.. what a nightmare. So many electrical problems- power window motors- door lock actuators.....so unhappyy. This is not a typical Toyota- if so it was a "Monday/Friday" built. I also had a 2018 camry- once again elecrical glitches. On the camry the water pump went at 500- yes 500 miles. The evaporator core went-a 5 day job. Thank goodness for the extended warranty. I will never ever buy any car without the extended warranty.
I love driving and am wondering which is the better driving vehicle between the 2013-2018 generation Toyota Avalons & the 2013-2018 Lexus ES 350? Handling & overall sporty driving is important to me. Lexus GS 350's are outside my budget.
2013 - 2018 avalons and lexuses (lexi?) Share the same platform, so they feel similar in some ways. But lexus is more luxurious, quieter, better materials and overall quality. Avalon has a tad bit better handling; feels slightly sportier. Imo just get the avalon, best bank for the buck. Also, after the 2015 model year of the avalon, it got a softer suspension and a plushier ride at the cost of handling.
I Love my Avalon 2,07 XLS looks brand new no scratches no rust nice and clean engine I bought it in 2021 a year now from a dealership it was Love at first site and still strong and looking new everyone Loves it I have it in mint green the color of money 💴 and they have it on UA-cam I was surprised to see it on UA-cam 🤣🤣🤣but she rides like you on clouds no noise and fast car and is perfect for me I am a senior 68 the mileage is 132 right now I try not to use it much but is very reliable and the back seat reclines for long traveling 😁👌 it can last over 2000 just have to take good care of her 🥰😊👌if you see one grab it you won’t be disappointed 😊👌
thanks for the review. I just purchased one. what do you think about 20s on this model? factory are 18s. will I ruin suspension or transmission going up 2 inches? thx
Another Top-Notch Review Yo ! I must state Toyota did an admirable job of making this generation of Avalons less of a senior citizen mobile. The paddle shifters however, too much of a stretch as this car is still just a boulevard cruiser. As far as the REAR seat "fold down" is concerned ? I think that middle compartment pass through door is the only access to the trunk. Upgraded set of tires to enhance the driving experience go with a set of Pirelli P-Zero's if you're fortunate to live in a warm weather climate. Pricier but in my opinion well worth the extra spendola's. Keep ^Up^ The Great Content Fella'. 🔜 💯 👍
Excellent, concise and thorough review. I have basically the same car in review above. Is there any chance that this vehicle can be compromised remotely via Blue Tooth or a Laptop for example? Any information will be greatly appreciated.
The main difference is the GS is rear wheel drive or AWD. Slightly better performance and ride, both come at a higher cost. The Lexus interior is much nicer. The Toyota is a great buy for the money however. Similar ride quality compared to a Lexus for less.
We were looking at this car, a Cadenza Limited, and Impala Premier. We really liked the Avalon, but the Impala was a better overall ride and looked a bit sharper, so that's what we got. I really appreciate the straightforward honesty in your reviews. Let me ask you this...what is your favorite full sized V6 near luxury style sedan? I'm not talking Mercedes or anything like that, but the more mainstream affordable type V6 sedans. Thanks
I did like the Cadenza but interior wasn't amazing on it considering it just had a bunch of gloss black plastic everywhere. Avalon and ES 350 would most likely be my choice. ES for sure because of the better build quality and materials
@@MeynMotorGroup Have you tried others like the 300, Impala, Azera, etc....? I recently rode in a 2021 ES 350 ultra luxury, and while it was great, I wasn't very impressed at 54k to be honest. The 2016 style Avalon was a fantastic car for the money on the used market. I never thought I'd say this about a Chevy, but that Impala Premier we bought blew me away. Especially for the money. It rides better than anything short of a pure luxury style sedan
Got a 2013 limited, put on 2010 highlander spec rotor, caliper, and brake pads, with continental control contact sport srs, highly recommend upgrading front brakes
So I have a 2014 with some continental extreme contact tires on it. Steering feel becomes genuinely good and grip is much less of an issue. Still struggling to find a upgrade replacement car that makes sense. It's all premium fuel and higher frequency dealership visits from here.
Yea that's a good tire. Only other All season to consider is the Michelin Pilot Sport AS4 but that's pretty expensive and I like how continental rides and feels. As well as how quiet it is
I own the 2008 Avalon limited I love it in my opinion the 2011-2012 toyota Avalon limited is the best hands down just by the looks and the features this 2014 looks like a cheap camry my opinion
Any thoughts on buying a used hybrid version? It seems like the hybrids with 80-100k+ miles should sell at a discount to account for likely battery replacement for $5k.
Kev, I've always thought this car was under-rated. Doing research, I've found that some Camrys and Avalons had bad engines but it wasn't consecutive years. I know you own/owned the Lexus LS430 and how did you like that, and more importantly, was it expensive to maintain? Love your reviews.
I know I'm 2 months behind, yes over the years some Camry's & Avalon have had some not great years. I've had two Camry's and have not had good experience with neither of them. 2014 and 2018. Do your research.

I love my 2013 Hybrid Limited. My only complaint is the harsh ride. It should ride like w Lincoln but actually rides like you're in a tank
I have a 2015 Avalon hybrid. It only has 50k miles. Still runs like a new car. Never had any problem.
I own one and yeah the rear seats don't fold down, not sure why they didn't include that with the fourth gen. But what's cool what the Avalon has that the ES doesn't is the Limited trim has rear heated and cooled seats.
Gotcha, well thank you for confirming my friend
Have the same car and by far the best car I ever had.
Owner of a 2013 Avalon hybrid here. 212k miles and still going strong
I also have a 13 Toyota Avalon hybrid Limited with 100,000 miles. Are you still on the original hybrid traction battery??
@@rontreen3278 240k miles and still original battery pack
Camry and Avalon are nothing alike. Avalon and an ES are pretty close but Lexus interior is next level compared to the Yotas
This isn't a model we get down here but being a Toyota it would be a great first or second vehicle. I do like this type of segment gives people a real life review on cars they might buy. Great video Kevin thanks. Brenton🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Thank you my friend!
Incredibly insightful review, it helped me immensely! Thank you!
Damn that is great gas mileage I wasn’t expecting that
I enjoy your honest unbiased reviews it gives me peace from my busy production work lifestyle at work and ur videos also tames my temper to keep me from getting angry at my roomates when they annoy me.
I'm humbled thank you!
Thanks Kevin. That's one reliable ride
For sure!
I have had my 2013 XLE Touring for 6 years now and just turning over 100k miles. It has been a good one indeed.
I’ve been looking for an Avalon limited around that generation for a while now but used car prices are absolutely nuts. Guess I’ll keep my Camry for a while
The third generation is the best looking and much more elegant.
Best car ever! Ok maybe not but good enough for me. 2013 Touring, around 25,000 miles. Swapped the stereo for a Pioneer head unit, 10" tablet style. Rocks for not changing the amp or speakers. Yeah more would be better, future work.
Well my old man 2014 Limited Avalon went over 140 mph. She drives like a dream and gets 31 mpg.
I bought this car brand new and I still own it and LOVE it!! It has a lot of power and get up and go!! I love the sporty body style!! I have the silver which still looks great for being & years old. 😊
Great review. Subscribed
Great review!
This is the best looking Avalon IMO. When this first came out I found it beautiful
Great review!! Second one of yours I’ve watched, so yes, I sub’d! Haha
Turd on wheels comment. Instant street cred from the military community. Appreciate your reviews.
I have a 2015 Lexus ES350. Ended up going with the ES cause it's smaller than the Avalon, and made in Japan.. But Avalon is a great car as well!
Def can't go wrong with an ES
The ES is made alongside the Avalon in Kentucky. Plus, there isn’t a difference whether it’s made there or here because Toyotas quality control is amazing. Whether it’s in the US or Japan. That’s why Toyotas and Hondas have been built here since the 90s and haven’t had long term reliability issues.
@@zuhayrali4202 The 2015 ES and before were all made in Japan. 2016 was the new year they started shifting to US production.. Yeah true.. but I just feel better owning one made in Japan..
@@vignesh7989 it’s always better to own one from Japan. Quality is always going to better than the ones made in the US
@@paladin3116 Exactly, I agree!
Thank you! Helped me compare a daily driver.
Toyota dropped the ball with interior materials on this generation, almost every Avalon we looked at purchasing this summer had wornout leather armrests, peeling chrome around the stereo and cupholders. All these were between 40k - 100k miles.
Otherwise good review as always!!
Yea I can see that, materials look decent but they haven't held up quiet as well which is unfortunate. Thanks again for watching!
Fact
this is true, i drive a 2013 hybrid limited and the trim around the cupholders has started peeling and the material on the armrest has too, im at 97K miles but it still drives amazing
Yep. 2014. 100k miles and center console and arm rest are wearing. Cup holder trim is peeling too. Very low quality materials.
I love my 2014 Avalon XLE Touring! If you want it to growl a little, install a K & N air filter!
The Avalon Touring models have a more sporty suspension.
I have the 2016 Avalon limited, and when you go in sport mode the steering stiffens. Idk if the 2014 XLE does that too, but you didn’t comment on it.
Man those seats are more comfortable than the 2014 ford taurus
I would hope so
thanks for the review.
Glad you enjoyed!
Excellent, concise and thorough review. I have basically the same car in review above. Is there any chance that this vehicle can be compromised remotely via Blue Tooth or a Laptop for example? Any information will be greatly appreciated.
Lovely car, great kev 💪
I’ve found a 2014 limited in my area for 21.5k with 55k miles, seems high but it’s hard in this market
That’s a really good deal actually I’m jealous haha.
Would you recommend this car if you wanted to use it for road trips?
In used market, what are the main differences between Avalon vs Lexus ES 350 vs GS 350?
The main difference is the GS is rear wheel drive or AWD. Slightly better performance and ride, both come at a higher cost. The Lexus interior is much nicer. The Toyota is a great buy for the money however. Similar ride quality compared to a Lexus for less.
I really like these a a stepping stone to the Lexus I really want
Looking for a newer Avalon I have over 200 thousand miles. Suggestions try to get 2014 limited
yeah the petrol price goes very fast up Kevin, here in Germany cost 1 Liter petrol 2 $, it´s nuts.
Yea it's getting pretty bad around the world. Push for EVs will be coming shortly
@@MeynMotorGroup yes thats right Kevin.
I’m trying to decide between a 2013 Lexus gs 350 and Avalon 2013, decision is hard
Best looking Avalon IMO
This is my favorite Avalon body style.
Love mine. Solid all around for sure.
I like the 2014 look better than my 2020. The grill has been getting bigger with each generation to the point of being outrageous.
Very good review. Thanks. 👍👍
Thanks for watching!
Got a 2013 limited, put on 2010 highlander spec rotor, caliper, and brake pads, with continental control contact sport srs, highly recommend upgrading front brakes
Good mods, yea brake upgrade for sure helps this test car felt a bit soft with the brakes
As well as how quiet it is
Enjoyed the video but you played with the cooled and heated seats. Never pressed sports mode.
I own the 2008 Avalon limited I love it in my opinion the 2011-2012 toyota Avalon limited is the best hands down just by the looks and the features this 2014 looks like a cheap camry my opinion
i agree, i have an 05 but 11 and 12 look the best
Any thoughts on buying a used hybrid version? It seems like the hybrids with 80-100k+ miles should sell at a discount to account for likely battery replacement for $5k.
which one rides softer or has a more luxury feel the same year 2014 TLX?
Def the Avalon
Both kind of the same not a drastic difference Avalon might edge it out a tad.
This car is scary quiet, sometimes I don’t even realize that it’s still on when I get out!
My last year for Avalon is 2012..u can have the rest!
yo Kevin! appreciate your content, did you ever do a dedicated review of the GS F?
I have not unfortunately only the RC F and LC
@@MeynMotorGroup maybe one day I can get my hands on one, you can drive it, ahah! good stuff
No douche bag here with the Avalon....absolute brilliance!
Used 2014 avalon or 04-06 ls430 as best daily?
Kev, I've always thought this car was under-rated. Doing research, I've found that some Camrys and Avalons had bad engines but it wasn't consecutive years. I know you own/owned the Lexus LS430 and how did you like that, and more importantly, was it expensive to maintain?
Love your reviews.
I know I'm 2 months behind, yes over the years some Camry's & Avalon have had some not great years. I've had two Camry's and have not had good experience with neither of them. 2014 and 2018. Do your research.
